CHAPTER FORTY-ONE
Serex stood on the balcony of his boss’ penthouses, admiring the view below. It was another day with no sight of his boss, not even a trace of him.As he stood, he held his phone in his hand, his heart thumping quickly as he gripped it. Having done all of his work, all he could do was relax, but he couldn't. It was difficult for him since Kael was in danger, possibly even his life.He wanted to take a step forward in searching for him, but he couldn't, not without his boss's approval. Furthermore, Jace had assured him of his brother's safety, so he was hopeful that he would succeed.Serex took another glance at his phone. No response. He recalled calling and sending a message to Veyra, hoping she would see it and forgive him for not meeting up with her before. He needed her, in fact, they needed each other but their circumstances made it difficult. Moreover, since he was in for a fresh start, he deliberated on the matter and finally mustered the courage to send her the message.“Mayb
CHAPTER FORTY-TWO
Serex glanced at his phone trying to understand the address that had been sent to him. It was strange that she sent him the address to a place he did not know actually existed in the whole of Velmora. After navigating the area for a while, he arrived at a deserted road. There was no one and most of all the weather was not doing him any good. He had also noticed some oddity, but since it was a secret meeting between him and Veyra, he did not mind that she had chosen such a location. It was for her own safety and he was clearly aware of that.A few minutes later, he decided to give her a call after concluding that he was at the right place. However, before he could do so, his phone began to ring.Serex jolted back, surprised at the sudden call from his boss. He did not answer it, not yet. He was sure to return the call just after speaking with Veyra.Immediately he dialed her number, he waited patiently for the rings, his heart beating faster as he darted his eyes around his surrounding
CHAPTER FORTY-THREE
The door slowly opened, revealing a tall, formal-dressed man sitting on a chair with his legs on the table, staring blankly at the wall and holding a cigarette. He puffed some smoke as the door closed and stared ahead.“Sir, the lady is here.” the man who had entered announced to him.“Is he Lazik?” Vira whispered, but again, she was ignored.Lazik took a pause and turned slowly towards the man who was one of his guards and the lady. When his gaze rested on her, he smirked. He had been expecting her and knew she would arrive after sending that message.“Mrs Vira Gordon.” he said in a slow and low tone.“I would prefer just Vira. It is of no use adding the other.” she told him.Lazik let out a smile and signaled to his guard to leave. The man bowed and opened the door, leaving the duo to their private meeting.“It is nice meeting you in person.” Lazik said as he offered her a seat.Vira stared at the man for a while before approaching the chair; this was their first meeting. At first
CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR
It was another day and still no sign of Serex. Jace was completely disturbed by his sudden disappearance. Throughout the night, he was unable to sleep because his mind was constantly racing with possibilities about what might have happened.Jace knew that with his current state, he would not win any quest, especially now that his vitals were drastically dropping.Would the system allow him this time seeing the kind of danger he was in?He sighed and sat up from the bed. Nothing was working for him; in fact, unless he tried the quest again and succeeded, nothing would work. While he was still thinking, his phone rang. The article headlines were boldly written: A BILLIONAIRE'S RISE TO POWER. IS THERE MORE TO IT?The first thing that drew his attention was the large display of one of his photos, which the paparazzi had most likely taken following a conference meeting. The news was already spreading like wildfire all through the internet with people commenting on all sorts of terrible thi
CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE
“I need you to track this man down and do away with him.” Ryker recalled his boss's sayings. He smirked as he stuffed the photo into his jacket pocket. The task was too simple for him and even below his skill level, but Lazik had told him that he needed a clean job, so who was he to complain? He paused briefly as he walked into the clubhouse, scanning the surroundings before entering. He hated clubhouses, the noise, the cheers, and the blaring music. It was simply not the appropriate place for him to be. He quickly began climbing the stairs, keeping his gaze steady on the room he was approaching.Mr. Alan.Reporter.Kill him. These words repeated in his head as he made his way to the door. When he opened it, he saw Mr. Alan lying on the bed, half-naked. He must have been expecting her, Ryker thought jokingly to himself.“Hello, dea–” Mr Alan said as he turned, only for him to pause when he saw Ryker and his disgusted expression.“How the hell did you get in and who are you?” the man
CHAPTER FORTY-SIX
Veyra was quiet as she sat in one corner of the room. Serex had just heard her cry and now she was in a bad state, having nothing to do except stare blankly. He felt her pain, and he was also hurt and helpless. There was no one to render any assistance to them especially now they were trapped. As he continued to stare at her, he remembered Kael, and his eyes stung. He took a deep breath and lowered his gaze, not wanting to display any emotion.“What do we do now?” he asked, without looking up.There was no response. When he looked up, he met Veyra's eyes as they stared into him. Then she slowly averted her eyes to a part of the wall. Serex followed her gaze, and then he saw it.He immediately looked to the other corners and saw the same thing. It seemed strange that he had not noticed it sooner, but he was relieved that he had not said anything that could put them in more trouble. He clenched his fist in rage as he looked back at her. It was clear to him that there was nothing they co
CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN
Lazik was seated in his office awaiting the arrival of Ryker and his newly appointed worker, Vira. When the door opened, he let out a slight smile.Ryker approached him, bowing in respect, while Vira stood motionless, not knowing what to do. She could not imagine bowing down to someone like him.Lazik gave her a glance but did not say anything. He then turned his attention to Ryker.“Have you checked on Veyra?”The man nodded slowly, “she has been kept in the same room as Serex.”“No, no, I don't want that.” Lazik quickly said before averting his gaze to Vira, “I’ll show you around and enlighten you on your position here.”“That would be fine by me.” Vira said.Lazik then turned to Ryker, “I would need Veyra in my office.”***Lazik led the walk leading Vira through the corridors where various sorts of treatments were being carried out. They both got into the elevator, and Lazik pressed the top floor button.Vira looked on, observing the surroundings and, above all, keeping her distan
CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT
POPULAR REPORTER FOUND DEAD IN A CLUBHOUSE.The news spread like wildfire, and the entire internet seemed shocked.Elias was scrolling through his phone when he caught sight of the headlines. He took a brief pause, trying to comprehend the cause of his death as it was not stated in the articles.Mr. Alan was considered the most popular reporter owing to the fact that he had built his own form and was working in it.Even though Elias held a grudge towards him, he was stunned to read of his death so quickly. There was no evidence discovered because the person responsible had done an excellent job of removing all traces of it, making it even more difficult for him to determine who was behind it.Elias leaned back into his seat feeling somewhat glad at the strange demise of the young man. He did not have to deal with him again or get his hand dirty while trying to pay back for what he had done. Someone had already done it for him.But who exactly was it? CHAPTER FORTY-NINE
Vira slowly opened her eyes, only to be blinded by the unexpected brightness. She immediately closed them back, sitting up gently as she cleared her eyes. When she reopened it, she was taken aback by the unfamiliar surroundings. It looked familiar just like the hospital wards she had seen before. She darted her eyes around the room, stopping only when it fell on Ryker who stood beside her.“Why am I here?” She asked him as he shot her a look.Ryker rolled his eyes slightly. “You fainted in the laboratory, don't you remember?”Vira froze, attempting to recall what had brought her to the ward. When it struck her, she looked up to him.“Where is he? I mean, Lazik.” she questioned.“He is attending to a patient so he is unavailable for now.” Ryker answered.“Well, I would like to see him now!” she exclaimed as she got up from the bed.“You will have to wait till he is done.” Ryker informed her. On hearing this, Vira rolled her eyes angrily, she stopped in front of him, poking a finger at
CHAPTER FIFTY
It was nighttime in Draxion, the weather was cold with the ocean breeze ventilating the whole area. Jace had been waiting for this time since he had already gotten a clue about the arrival of the government officials. He had been wandering around, waiting and hoping to end the quest in the best way plus he desperately needed the mind-stabilizing reward promised by the system, as he could use it to reach level three. As he sat on the bench in expectation of the next possible action, he overheard someone speaking about looking for greener pastures. They walked past him, not bothering to look in his direction.Jace stood up slowly, trailing behind in secret and hoping no one would notice. The nasty stares he was receiving were enough, but he did not want to draw attention to himself. When they arrived at the familiar dark alley, Jace could hear the men whispering to themselves.“Is this the same alley where some dead men were discovered?” the man's customer he had seen earlier, inquired.
