CHAPTER THIRTY ONE
The next place Jace found himself after clicking on the “Yes” button was outside an abandoned subway entrance. The place was strange and deserted. Jace was certain he had never been to the location before. It was dark, and a mist covered the entire tunnel. As Jace stepped onto the staircase, his footsteps echoed, breaking the silence ahead. He continued further, caressing his open arms as the air became colder. He shook his head, wishing he had not worn his lightweight t-shirt. “How am I supposed to know that the system would transport me to this weird place?” he asked himself as he continued to caress his arms. The last place he had been in was outside Serex’s apartment. He recalled walking out of the building, trying to make out his next move. But after much thought, he had decided to attempt the quest before moving forwards. He had clicked o
CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO
“What do you mean by that?” Elias questioned in anger as he paced around his office. “I could not get a hold on him, sir.” the man before him, a roughly young man in his early thirties answered. His head was bowed before Elias, and his hand tightened around the material of his black cargo pants. Elias stared at him for a moment before speaking. “So you are trying to tell me that you failed to apprehend a mere man and now he is nowhere to be found?” “He is–” “Shut the fuck up!” Elias yelled, “I was told that you were the best assassin which made me hire you and now you are telling me that you were unable to catch the one person I paid you to catch?” The man bowed slowly. “I am sorry, sir. I might have failed to capture this man but I ended up stabbing his assistant.” the man said, his voice lowered by the mask that covered his face. “That was not what I sent you to do.” Elias told him, then he paused, “did he die?” “No, sir. I tracked his whereabouts and discovered that his
CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE
The next location Jace found himself in was a scrapyard. The place was also deserted with lots of rusted machines and abandoned vehicles. There were heaps of steel packed in various corners, and the air smelled like oil.Jace took a step forward, his gaze shifting between the metal mountains. Then the notification appeared before his eyes again.|[Eliminate Hostile Prototypes]“Hostile Prototypes?” Jace asked, “So what should I be looking for now?”|[Get rid of the hounds]|[Reward: 50% Endurance Boost + Shrapnel Rounds Added To Inventory]|[Penalty: Severe Physical Penalty]Jace sighed and clutched his dagger firmly. Soon, he heard a growl echoing throughout the area. It was not the usual growl he was used to hearing; this time, it was like metals grinding against steel.Jace came to a halt and turned toward the source of the sound, peering closely into the shadows.Suddenly, the first hound emerged. Its body was covered in jagged steel, its eyes were bright and glowed with crimson,
CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR
“Lazik needs you now.” Ryker told Veyra when he entered the lab.She nodded and took off her gloves before following him out. Fortunately for her, she had returned on time, just before anyone noticed. As they both entered the dimly lit office, Ryker bowed and left.“You sent for me, sir.” Veyra said as she bowed.Lazik, who was sitting at his desk smoking from his pipe, looked up and smiled. That is weird, Veyra thought.“We have gotten news from the boss. He requests a large number of specimens to aid his soldiers in an upcoming war.” Lazik told her.Specimens? War?“I understand that the specimens are far more capable of dealing with wars, but do you not think it is going too far?” Veyra asked him.Lazik gave her a look, and she quickly bowed back.“So what? Do you want to go against the president?”Veyra dared to look up, “President?” “Haven't you heard the news about what is happening in Draxion?” he asked her.Veyra remembered seeing the news, but it was not anything bad, so she
CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE
Vira arrived home feeling exhausted. She was fuming at her loss as she walked up the stairs to her room.On entering she placed her bag on her make-up desk and fell into the bed. She exhaled slowly, then sat up.Her husband was nowhere to be found. In fact, she could not recall the last time she set her eyes on him. After their outburst over the pictures, he had transferred his belongings to an empty room in the house. She was left alone in her own room with no sight of her husband. Whenever he got back from work, he quickly disappeared into his room before she could meet him.Vira could remember knocking at the door constantly begging to explain herself. But it was all futile. Vira sighed and rubbed her forehead. Her head ached and she thought of getting some painkillers. As she rose from the bed, she couldn't think of anything except how to get out from Alan’s clutch on her. Those pictures were important if she r
CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX (Short Chapter)
Elias paced up and down his office in a fit of rage. He stopped and turned to face the wounded man in front of him.“What did you mean by ‘you were attacked by him’?” he asked the man.“He was too strong, boss, the level of strength he had surpassed mine by far.” the man told him.“You–you are just a dummy. How dare you stand before me to say such a thing!” he yelled. The man immediately bowed. “I am so sorry, sir.”Without a word, Elias sat down at his table and put his chin on his palm while leaning his back against his chair.Numerous ideas were racing through his head. What was he going to do after the whole failed attempt? he questioned himself. He needed to deal with his rival, but how was he going to do that? While he was still contemplating, the door flung open and a lady entered. Elias looked up at the intruder and rolled his eyes. Then he signaled to the man to leave. As he walked away, Vira's eyes followed suit until he was gone. She went over to her husband's table and sla
CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN
Veyra's heartbeat quickened as she approached the laboratory. As she stood outside the door, she could hear some faint noises coming from inside. Her heart thumped even harder as she held the door knob. She opened it gently and listened. No more sound. There was complete silence; all of the noise had subsided. She then slowly closed the door and turned on the lights.Immediately her gaze fell on some young men and ladies amounting to five seated on the floor with their hands tied and their mouths gagged. When she approached them, they recoiled in fear. All of a sudden she stopped as her eyes caught something by her side. Veyra held her breath and turned around slowly, she was beginning to whimper as her gaze was about landing on what she was about to see.Just then she locked gaze with one–no, two people standing a few inches from where she stood. Their eyes glared at her as she staggered backwards. Veyra let out a shrilling scream, her heart racing as she dashed to the door and ope
CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT
After failing to complete the quest, Jace was transported back to his vehicle. His skills remained unchanged, but his health had deteriorated to 70% due to his unstable mind and a few minor injuries. He exhaled heavily and punched the steering wheel. This was the first time he would ever be failing a quest and it made him really angry. How am I supposed to rescue Kael or even the world? he asked himself. Then he paused and leaned back into his seat, his gaze fixed on the now deserted street. What am I going to do? Jace asked himself. It was obvious that he would not be able to progress unless he completed this quest, and if he did not, he would not be able to gain enough skill to aid him in his battle.Jace heaved another sigh and gripped the steering hard. He had no other option than to return home, but the prospect of confronting his assistant was even more daunting. As he started the engine, he was deeply disturbed by his current situation. It was unbearable for him even though he
CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE
“Are you certain of what you're saying?” Jace asked Nova as they both sat in a bar.Nova nodded.“I was shocked at first because I did not envision the whole scam to be pointed in this direction.” she explained.“You mean you actually overheard them talking about taking people from Draxion to be used to fight war?” Jace inquired inquisitively, particularly because he was having trouble believing it.“Do you doubt me?” Nova questioned. “I mean, only a few minutes ago, you witnessed me running for my life.”“No, I do not have any doubts about you. It is just that this same thing is also linked to the frequent occurrences that have been taking place.”Nova looked up to him.“You mean the missing persons?”Jace gave her a quick glance before nodding.“I knew it!” she exclaimed. “After Mr. Vale's disappearance, I knew something was wrong.”“Mr. Vale? The restaurant man? H-he disappeared?” Jace asked, a look of shock plastered on his face.“It has not been confirmed, but before his disappea
