The Signal
Andrew dialed Mason's secure number, hoping he would pick up. But Mason simply watched as his phone rang, hesitating to pick the call because it was an unknown number. He let it ring for the first time, his thumb hovering over the screen before finally answering on the second attempt."Hello?" Mason's voice was cautious, guarded."Mason, it's me," Andrew's voice came through, laced with an undercurrent of urgency.Mason's grip on the phone tightened as he instantly recognized the voice. He knew immediately that something was wrong. "Mas…ter?" "Yes it's me. Mason, listen to me carefully. The package is ready for delivery," Andrew said, his tone light but laced with tension. He had to speak in coded words because of possible surveillance, and he hoped Mason would get what he meant."Huh?" Mason replied in total confusion.Andrew was frustrated, and had to repeat himself, hoping Mason would understand what he meant.Mason's mind suddenly snapped into high gear. He immediately realized
Dopple What?
For what felt like an eternity, Andrew stood still at the spot, his face bewildered with shock and anxiety with both feelings leaving him in a thrill.“This is not possible, you should be dead!" He grimaced. He ran his fingers through his already ruffled hair as he could feel a rush of adrenaline through his blood stream that brought his heart beat almost to a halt.“Well, Commander…I must say you are the last person that I was expecting to see here.” Carl turned to the man close to where he was and whispered something inaudibly. The man gave a nod and walked away leaving the two men alone.Carl clears his throat. "I just asked that he reconfirm if we have the right person, there was no way I could have missed your name …” he sighs. " Though I never checked to see who we were going after, you know how it is for a bounty hunter like myself.” Andrew clenches his fist in anger or malice but a sense of understanding at how frustrating the situation was turning out to be.“It is fine, I
Return And Revelation
Soon, they left the detention facility behind as the car surged forward. Andrew barely noticed the passing scenery, or Mason's conversation with someone over the phone. Thoughts of what had just happened wouldn't leave his head. After a while, Mason turned slightly to face him and said, "Are you okay, Master? You seem... distracted.""Of course I am," Andrew snapped, and went on to tell him about the person Carl said was posing as him. Mason's eyes grew wider as he listened. "The impostor somehow knew, and then used my security codes before vanishing without a trace," Andrew finished in a low growl. "Without a trace," Mason repeated slowly. "Forgive me but I find that hard to believe. This misidentification thing is just an excuse if you ask me."Andrew nodded. Mason had just spoken his mind. "Yes... I think so too," he agreed. *******Baron was standing outside the building when Andrew and Mason arrived."Finally!" he exclaimed upon seeing Andrew. He heaved a sigh of relief a
Echoes In The Dark
It had been hours since the team began working, and the energy inside the room was tense, but focused. As they worked tirelessly, only one thing was at the back of their individual mind and that was finding that bit of the missing puzzle:Who was this anonymous man?The question imprinted a deep worry on Andrew who sat at the far end of the room, quietly observing everyone move from screen to screen, map to map, piecing fragments together. The silence in his mind, however, was deceptive. As deep in it, was something else… Something very disturbing that he didn't know how to pin at that moment, was this another plot from Lizzy?Every possibility spun inside his head like a carousel he couldn’t get off questions, half-formed answers, that was racing through the depth of his mind. The thought that someone might be out there wearing his face, using his name, walking in his shadow, disturbed him more than he admitted aloud…Mason walked over, and placed a cup of coffee in front of him.
Into Verizon
It had been tiring for Lizzy at this point, she was out of options…She had to carry out her most pending plan regardless of what it felt like, risk or not.Looking out of the window of the cafe lost for a while, she took a quick look at her watch.Burke was running late as usual. She kissed her teeth in disapproval before getting lost again in the other world.Outside the sky hung heavy with dark clouds that promised a threat of rain. The Streetlights cast it shimmering light right to where she took every breath and turned at every footstep. She sat at the far end of a dimly lit cafe, enough to be hidden from everyone else but him, her eyes kept flickering between the entrance and the half-empty cup in her hand. So far the place was quiet with just a few sounds from her fingers that tapped against the ceramic mug rhythmically.“What the hell, why is he taking eternity!" She grumbles. She picks up her phone and dials his cell. "Hello, what is taking you too long? Just tell me if…”S
Shadow And Truth
The air inside the Verizon building had shifted and it all started the moment Andrew had spotted the car. For some reason he couldn't just get it off his mind.“Something seems off…” He muttered, taking a step backward. For what felt like a minute of eternity he listened evenly. If he could hear anything with his years in the military, he would be able to pick any slight sound. Sighing he shrugged his shoulders, there was nothing afterall…There was nothing but solace and quietness that filled the room. There was no music playing, no soft hum of janitors working through their routine. Just the dull throb of the emergency lights and the faint creak of something far away. As he moved slowly towards the sounds, Andrew slowed his steps as he reached the fifth-floor landing, every muscle in his body tense at the anticipation for what was to comeSomething was off. He could feel it in the way the building was quiet, too quiet. And he couldn't let it go.He paused again near the fire exit d
Beneath The Silence
Rain still tapped the windows along with the tick of the clock but Andrew stood frozen, his jaw clenched so tightly it ached. His mind was rattled, this was definitely something and the empty spot where the car had been was a clue.He stared at the empty spot where the car had been minutes ago, its absence leaving a deep pain in his heart.“I can't believe all of this." He ran his hands over his face in disbelief as a surge of fury exploded in his chest as he turned and punched the nearest wall, the sharp pain grounding him just enough.“Goddammit,” he muttered, punching out a number on his smart military watch and dialing Mason's number. It rang once. Twice.“Mason here,” came the familiar voice.“I need you. Now. At Verizon. I think we’ve had a breach.”Silence for a second.“Breach?” He stalled for a minute. " What kind of breach?”“The kind I can't explain yet. But someone was here. I saw the shadow on the hallway feed. And now… nothing. They’re gone. I need you to lock down eve
Finding Loopholes
Andrew stepped into the boardroom, and immediately, the room fell silent. The man at the head of the table was flipping through a bulky folder and saying, "...We made quite a good amount of profit last year, but this year, our competitors in the market have been more aggressive than usual. Profits have gone down by..." Then, he too stopped talking. Noticing the sudden silence in the room, he looked up, started slightly at the sight of Andrew who stood framed in the doorway...Andrew looked around, at the men wearing sleek suits and balled his hands into tight fists. The thought that any of them could be the one sabotaging him made his blood boil. "Mr Andy!" the man who had been talking exclaimed as he adjusted his glasses, and fiddled with his tie. "We-we weren't expecting to see you today."Nods and murmurs from the rest of the men followed after his comment like a bee on Queen's orders. Andrew said nothing, just kept surveying them with a cold, indifferent gaze. The men, most
Questions With Zero Answers
Andrew kept looking at her as she looked to her right and left on the screen unblinking, and it struck deep in his heart, until his teeth protested from how much he'd clenched them. Angry was in understatement to how he felt. It wasn’t entirely all about the footage that haunted him, but the certainty it carried as well. Or could he say a deep truth that this wasn't over afterall.Or was it the fact that he still knew those features too well every curve, every frown line, that had defied him all this whole, while it was his damn ex wife? Or rather, the woman who used to be his Lizzy... the same woman that has made him a caricature of himself, and after all this while, she still wouldn't let him be?He stood frozen for what felt like an eternity, Mason’s voice somewhere in the background, repeating something about strengthening security, about tracing her last known movements. None of it registered to the back of his mind at that moment. Everything that he could think about was jus
A Piece Of A Puzzle
It had been days since Lizzy had stepped into the Verizon building and nearly been caught, yet the memory of it was still right there at the back of her mind, unrelenting. In a way, she could still hear that frantic heartbeat in her ears when she thought that anyone would find her where she had hidden that fateful evening.Three days, and the tension still clung to her shoulders like a part of her memory that would never leave, a gravy weight unwilling to depart and she wouldn't let go of.She hadn’t told anyone what really happened inside the Verizon, not even her beloved mother had the full details. The thought of what could have happened to her if she was caught had always sent damning chills to her heart.
