[81] The whole truth
"Well," Jace said, and for a moment, the screeching sound of the chair against the floor filled the air when he got up."Some crazy news has been flying around the campus and I know you know what I'm talking about." He continued, pacing around the room like a detective.Becky sat there in silence listening to what Jace had to say. She could only hope that all of this was a prank, and that Jace loves her, or maybe there was another mystery boss somewhere."I've not heard of it," Becky lied,"Which one?" "Lie," Jace chuckled softly, returning to his seat and looking her straight in the eyes."The one that your friend, Grace, came into my dormitory, but claims that I invited her."Becky's heart stopped for a moment, wondering what all these romantic treatment has to do with Grace."How did we even get to this?" She asked, the perplexity evident in her tone and overall facial expressions. Fidgeting with the roses in front of her, she avoided looking Jace in the eye, perhaps it was out of
[82] The whole truth
The third day came, and Jace woke up feeling very excited. Everything had gone according to plan, all too perfect and flawless that it almost appeared scripted. He has proof that he never invited Grace to the dorm room, and the Vice Chancellor has proof of who posted the picture in chat. Today, it will all be revealed in the school court, still in the absence of the vice Chancellor who would be represented by the registrar. This information made Jace's skin crawl, considering that the registrar only cared about who gave money to the school, rather than justice. He unlocked his phone once more and played the recording from his fake date one more time and let out a sigh. "Let's see how this goes." In no time, Jace arrived at the school court. Even though the meeting was set to be held at 9am, he intentionally waited ten extra minutes, to avoid being kept waiting like the last time. But once more, he met the hall empty, not even Grace was present. "I guess I'll just wait," he mutter
[83] You slapped me
"That's the truth, the whole truth." Becky's voice was heard clearly from Jace's phone, and the position of the camera added to the mystery, making it look as though Becky wasn't aware that there was even a camera in the room.Jace let out a sigh, breaking the silence that had engulfed the room since the video ended. Now, all eyes were on Grace, with furious gazes and disappointed faces."No, this was all staged," her mother stepped up again, this time getting on her feet and snatching Jace's phone from his hand. Without words she threw it to the floor, smashing the screen and stepping on it like a piece of rag."You just broke my phone!" Jace yelled, his eyes widening in disbelief. He crouched down to pick it up, but it was nothing but a pile of broken parts."Yes!" Grace's mother protested,"That's what a brat like you deserves for lying against my daughter, and staging all of this up just to make you look innocent."She turned to the registrar,"Expel him! This fool has the potenti
[84] On my authority
What seemed like a calm ending turned into a war zone in seconds. Became neither of these ladies could stand being slapped by the other, they collided heads on, pulling each other's hair and throwing insults at the other. The students, with the help of teachers, managed to pull them apart, despite this strong urge to kill each other."Your daughter will be expelled," the registrar spat out in anger, fixing her messed-up hair by pulling those loose strands off he face."She's leaving Tristan Coleman University, and there is nothing you can do about it.""I don't give a damm!" Grace's mother spat back."This school is trash anyway, and is not fit for someone like my daughter, come on, honey, let's get out of here."Without further ado, she picked you he purse, grabbed Grace by the hand and walked out of the hall. She tried too hard to hide how ashamed she was of herself and her daughter. And Grace, she silently followed her mother from behind, too embarrassed to lift her head. This wasn
[85] Fire all of them
The system hadn’t lied. His ID card, when he slipped it onto the scanner by the wall, lit up in gold letters: Acting Vice Chancellor – Jace. The registrar’s face drained of colour, she wanted proof, and Jace didn’t hesitate to show it to her. Without another word, she pulled out her phone and relayed the order, calling all staff to the Vice Chancellor’s office immediately. Only a few minutes later, Jace sat in the grand leather chair behind the Vice Chancellor’s desk. It felt strange yet natural, like the seat had been carved with his destiny in mind. Behind him stood Max, stone-faced as ever and arms crossed like a sentinel. One by one, the staff filed in. Professors, deans, and administrative heads, many of them the same people who sneered at scholarship students, who overlooked injustice, and basked in the pockets of wealthy parents. Jace didn't know all of them; he hadn't been here long enough to tell how many corrupt staff there were, but he was going to make sure that his actio
[86] A student's death
The news about Jace's freedom spread across the entire campus, and the mysterious withdrawal of numerous staff was yet another bombshell. Yet, no one knew just how powerful Jace is, and this is because a lot of details about the case were left out.But one thing was for sure, everyone had to be wary of Jace, because despite how simple he looked on the outside, a single word from him could ruin your entire academic year. There are only a handful of people who knew about his position as the acting vice Chancellor, mostly staff. However, the entire school knows that he is the acting president, and might become the president. This development was very well received by the scholarship students; somehow, they just knew that with Jace there, their voices would he heard and they would no longer be treated like trash.Unfortunately, that wasn't the case, because elite students would always find a way to be stupid and annoying regardless of how many times you've chastised them. Attacks on schol
[87] One down
The knock came again, this time a lot harder than Jack woke up furious.“Jace!” The voice came again, “You need to come. Now!”Jace rose from his chair slowly, his body heavy with anger and grief. He opened the door to see a fellow scholarship student, eyes wide with sweat glistening on his forehead.“What is it?” Jace asked, his voice low, dangerous. The boy hesitated, glancing down the hallway as if afraid they were being watched. “It’s… in the cafeteria. You have to see it for yourself.”Jace didn’t ask again. He simply pushed past the boy and made his way down the dorm corridors, his steps cold and deliberate. The boy followed behind nervously, keeping his head down. The cafeteria was almost empty at this hour, but as Jace stepped inside, a small cluster of students lingered by the far wall. Their whispers died the moment they saw him enter, the room dropping into a tense silence. Some turned away, others stared with a mix of fear and anticipation, as though waiting to see his
[88] Jane did it
Jane stood there, staring into his eyes like she had never seen them. For a split second, it felt like they might have a romantic moment until Jace broke the silence by asking, "Well, are you for me or against me?" With that, Jane took her hand off his wrist and straightened up briskly. "I was coming here for the same reason. I thought they'd let me in because I'm Tristan Coleman's daughter, but I guess you got here first and nd killed someone." "He's not dead, just unconscious," Jace interjected, "Why are you trying to investigate... does it really matter to you that much... "Jace," she cut him off, her tone firm but not harsh. "Just unlock the door." Without saying another word, Jace took a deep breath. He grabbed the key and unlocked the door leading into the camera room. "Why is this even locked anyway? Aren't there people inside?" As soon as he pushed open the door, the answer to his question stood right before him. Both Jane and himself had were perplexed, baffled by w
[89] So you are Jace, huh?
"That's until tomorrow," Jane muttered, "I don't think any of them stay in school here, and it would he strange to go knocking at the staff's door at this hour." "That's not even what I'm worried about," Jace interjected, putting the ID in his pocket. [ 1 item retrieved ] [ ID ] "What then are you worried about?" She asked. "You see how the security at the entrance didn't let us enter? It's the same way the security at Adan’s death scene asked me to stay out of this investigation. The school is trying to keep it coded, so I don't even think a staff member would let us get involved." Jane raised an eyebrow, nodding her head in agreement, "But why would they try to hide this? Adan’s parents would have learnt about this and they'll make it public, they'd probably even sue the school." "Well," Jace chimed in, "We just need to work secretly and hope to achieve something meaningful. How about Bob, can you get him to help us?" "Well, yes," Jane nodded, "He's my dad's cousin's so
[90] Not worth my anger
The cafeteria buzzed with the usual morning chaos and clattering of trays. Voices rose over one another and the sharp smell of fried eggs, bread, and too much coffee filled the air. Jace sat alone near the far end, where the sunlight from the wide windows reflected lazily across the long table. His plate was simple: a slice of bread, a boiled egg, and a cup of lukewarm tea. He didn’t need anything fancy; food was food, and right now, his mind was occupied with much heavier matters. But no matter how he tried to ignore it, he could feel dozens of eyes on him.Everywhere he looked, students glanced in his direction with that same expression, hatred, anger or disdain. Some whispered behind half-covered palms, some stared boldly as though daring him to react, and others simply shook their heads as if his very presence was some kind of plight. It wasn’t new to him, he had grown used to stares ever since he became acting president.Still, Jace ate slowly, unbothered. He had already learne
