chapter 1
. It was 3:30 a.m. Dave Wayne's eyes were closed as he wandered through his dreams. In his fantasy, he was a powerful business executive, sitting in first class on a plane, ordering sushi with confidence and ease. Splash... Cold water drenched Dave, shocking him awake. "Wake up, you piece of trash," snarled Eva Lapis, his wife. She had just dumped a full bucket of toilet water on him to jolt him out of sleep. "Take this bucket, go wash my car, and make breakfast. I need to be at the office early today." Dave, still stunned by the icy shock, he sat up, dripping and shivering. "Why did you do that?" he asked, his voice trembling. "Can't you just wake me up like a normal person?" His face twisted in frustration and confusion. Eva's eyes narrowed. "Are you talking back at me?" Before dave could even look up, a hot slap cracked across his cheek. The sting sounded louder than her voice. "You good-for-nothing nobody," she spat. How dare you talk back to me? Now move it—go w

Dave wandered upstairs to the master bedroom, his footsteps light and hesitant. He entered quietly and stood at the corner of the large king-sized bed where Eva lay sound asleep, her expression calm—almost innocent—compared to the storm she often became when awake. He glanced at the clock again. 5:58 AM. Hmm… I had better wake her up now, he thought nervously, his voice barely a whisper in his mind. His hand hovered in the air for a moment, uncertain. He didn't want to startle her—that never ended well. Swallowing hard, he leaned in slightly, his voice trembling. "Eva… it's six a.m wake up." He reached out his hand and lightly touched her shoulder. "Eva… it's six already, wake up," he said quietly. Her eyes opened slowly, her lashes fluttering. For a second, she looked at him with her sleepy eyes as she opened them fully, and the first thing she saw was Dave's face—his expression blank, almost lifeless. Her eyes narrowed instantly. "Is breakfast ready?" she asked, her tone sha

Hours slipped by as Dave went about his daily chores. He was cleaning the marble table in the seating room when Eva walked in, just returning from work. He glanced at the time — 8:00 p.m. She sat down on the couch with a tired and sorrowful expression on her face. Dave noticed immediately. After all, they had been married for the past three years, and he could tell when something was off with her. For the first time, he truly felt concerned about her sadness. She sat there, looking pitiful and worn out. Their marriage had always been a contract — nothing more. Since the day they tied the knot, Dave had never once felt her affection. The only physical contact between them came in moments of abuse — a slap, a shove, or worse. She never let him share the king-sized bed. His only sleeping space was the hard floor. That's why he had unknowingly fallen asleep on the couch early this morning — it had been so long since he had rested on a soft surface. He looked at her, trying to show co

Dave quickly ended the call as soon as he saw Eva walking in. She immediately noticed him standing near the king-sized bed, his fist clenched tightly. He looked tense, acting strangely. She stared at him for a moment as she sat down on the edge of the bed. Davia returned her gaze, but there was something different in his eyes—distant, conflicted. Without saying a word, Eva lay down and pulled the bed over herself, closing her eyes. She didn't seem to care why Dave was standing there acting weird, nor did she ask. It was as if she was not in the mood to pester him like usual. As Dave stood there, his pocket began vibrating again. The same number was calling. He hurried out of the room and answered. "Young master, where are you?" Danny's voice came through, calm but urgent. Just give me your location, and I'll come pick you up. Your father very much wishes to speak with you." Davia froze. He had grown up never knowing he even had a father. Every time he asked his mother about him,

Today was the first time Diava met Edward, but the hatred he now felt for him had already sunk deep into his veins. "Kneel down now!" Samantha yelled. Dave didn't respond at first—his eyes were locked on the ridiculous smirk Edward wore on his stupid face. "I said kneel down," Eva added, her voice sharper. This time, she struck Diava with the red bouquet in her hands—the same one Edward had just given her. "You stupid fool!" Samantha shouted, landing another hot slap across Dave's face. Dave wanted to apologize, to explain himself, but they didn't give him a chance. Eva struck him again with the red bouquet. You idiot! "What gives you the audacity to interfere in our conversation?" she snapped. Before Dave could even speak, Samantha grabbed him by his worn-out, cheap shirt and dragged him toward the door. "Get out of here, you useless piece of trash!" she screamed, shoving him outside. "You should be grateful we were even helping your hopeless life! Just look at you—you won't

"It can't be… is that really you?" the man gasped, his voice trembling. "Oh my goodness… I've been searching for Victoria—and for you—for years." I never thought this day would come. He reached out and took Dave's hand, clutching it tightly, as though afraid the boy might vanish. His eyes filled with unshed tears. Dave stepped back slightly, confused. "How do you know my mother? "Who… who are you?" he asked cautiously, his voice barely above a whisper after hearing the name Victoria. The man looked at him with a mixture of sorrow and joy. "I'm Jorge Wayne," he said softly. "Your father." Dave froze. The words hit him like a wave, my father. For the first time in his life, he was standing face to face with the man he had always wanted to meet since he was a kid. His heart began pounding in his chest, and his lips parted, but no words came out. "Where is Victoria, your mother?" Mr. Jorge asked gently. Tears welled up in Dave's eyes as he replied, "She died nine years ago… from ca

Mr. Jorge let out a soft smile as he picked up the card from his lap. "Son, take it," he said gently. Even if you don't want it now, you'll take it when I'm gone. And by that time, it'll be much more than this. Besides, I have no use for it anymore—I'm just a sick old man running out of time. I won't be around much longer to enjoy any of this. He stretched out his hand toward Dave, the card trembling slightly between his fingers. "Here, son. Take it," Mr. Jorge urged again. Upon hearing what his father said, Diava hesitated for a moment. He didn't want to make his dad feel bad, so he slowly reached out and took the card from his father's hand. "Oh my God…" Dave whispered, still in disbelief. Is this real? Does this mean… I'm filthy rich? Lost in his thoughts, overwhelmed by emotion, Dave suddenly rushed forward and hugged his father tightly. "Thank you, Dad. I don't even know how to begin to thank you." Mr. Jorge looked at Dave and returned the hug with a warm smile. It's oka

"Hey Mom, I'm heading out," Vivian walked into the living room just as Eva finished her sentence. She was wearing a short, pink gown."Where do you think you're going dressed like that, Vivian?" Samantha asked, raising an eyebrow."Mom… I thought I told you," Vivian replied, rolling her eyes like a spoiled teenager."What do you mean you told me?" Samantha shot back, folding her hands as she stear at her, wanting to hear her excuse.Vivian huffed and turned around. "Well duh… you know my friend Jessica? She's having a birthday party and literally everyone is going to be there.""Oh really," Samantha said with mild surprise. "I didn't realize today was Jessica Vick's birthday," she said, unfolding her arms and instinctively reaching behind her neck with one hand, clearly not expecting that response." Her mom did mention it was coming up, but she didn't tell me it was today.Jessica's mother, Mrs. Vick is a close friend of Samantha. The two often visited each other, and coincidentally,

Time skipped by as Dave enjoyed a rare and heartwarming moment with his father. The two of them wandered around the mansion, talking and laughing, exploring rooms filled with memories and stories of the past. For once, Dave felt at peace—free, even.Suddenly, he felt his cheap Nokia phone vibrating in his pocket. He reached for his phone and glanced at the screen. It was Jennifer Lawrence, his college classmate. Dave couldn't figure out from all the people why Jennifer Lawrence would be calling him, but out of curiosity, he decided to answer.Sorry, Dad. "Can I have a second?" he asked politely."Of course, son," Mr. Jorge replied with a gentle nod.Dave stepped aside and answered the call. "Hello?"Suddenly, a small sarcastic chuckle came from the other end. "Is that Dave?" she asked."Yes, this is Dave. "Why did you call, Jennifer?" he replied."Oh," she laughed as she spoke, "I can't believe you're still alive!" I was scared no one would answer. I thought maybe you had died from st

"Wow..." Dave whispered to himself as he entered the dining room. It looked like his father was hosting a feast—so many dishes were laid out on the long dining table. "Oh, son! You're here. "Come, come, join me," Mr. Jorge said warmly as he noticed Dave's presence. Dave didn't hesitate. He walked over and sat down beside his father. "Good morning, Dad," Diava greeted politely, noticing the odd look on his father's face as he sat beside him. "What's wrong, Dad?" he asked, puzzled by the strange expression Mr Jorge had just given him. Mr. Jorge sighed. "Son, why are you still wearing those old, saggy clothes? As the heir to Wayne Enterprises, you shouldn't be walking around looking like that. I mean you look absolutely ridiculous." "I know, Dad," Dave replied sheepishly. "I couldn't find any clothes in my drawer, so I just wore them, not like I had a choice." Jorge shook his head. "In that case, Danny should take you to the mall today. Get yourself some proper clothes—good ones."
