Chapter 21: The Gun and the Truth.
Frank rested his hands on the leather steering wheel of his car. Tonight felt a lot better than he expected. Things were going according to plan, perhaps too well. Tessa Scott sat in the passenger seat, looking outside at the passing streetlights with little excitement. "Are you okay, sweetheart?" asked Frank. His voice came smooth and confident with the practiced charm that worked all the time. Then she slowly turned in his direction. "I'm just thinking about your father's studio. You know, the one you mentioned earlier." Frank smiled, shaking his head. "Is that what's bothering you? My father gets what he wants at all times. That's how we've built everything we have." Tessa pursed her lips. "Wow," she said with no emotion. "It must be nice having that kind of power in your family." Frank shrugged his shoulder. "It certainly has its benefits," he said while pulling the car into his home's parking garage. "Come with me inside and I'l
Chapter 22: The Truth and the Threat.
Frank closed his eyes for a moment, knowing deep down that he was going to regret this. "Okay, fine," he said. "My father sent me down to Miami to start an important business partnership with an old friend. But he believed that strong and successful men always take what they want from others." "He hated the fact that I never stole what I wanted from people around me. He said it made me look weak." Tessa waited without moving. "What'd you do then, daddy's boy?" Frank took a deep breath before answering. "So I took his friend's daughter," he said. "I thought I could steal the entire business in Miami by seducing her. I thought that by doing that, my father would finally respect me." "I thought he'd finally see me as someone strong." Frank closed his eyes tight, showing strong hints of regret all over his face. "But then, the girl's father found out about everything. He was very angry, and he had connections to
Chapter 23: A Hidden Agreement.
Frank clapped his hands slowly. "Bravo! That was actually beautiful, Tessa." His voice had changed completely. The panic was gone. Now he sounded cold like his father."You think this is funny?" Tessa moved closer with the gun still pointed at his chest. Her finger was now on the trigger. "I'm warning you!"But Frank calmly turned his back to her. He walked away from the bedroom like the gun didn't matter. Tessa followed him, confused and angry. Where did this sudden courage come from?Frank walked back to his bar in the living room. His hands didn't shake anymore as he poured whiskey into both glasses. The golden liquid caught the city lights from his windows."Want a drink?" Frank held out a glass to her. He waited for her to drop the gun and take it. "Welcome to the real game, Tessa.""Are you insane?" Tessa's voice got louder. "I told you already! I want nothing to do with your sick family!"She pointed the gun at her own hea
Chapter 24: New Allies.
Hours earlier, Calvin and Martin were stuck inside the house while black cars waited outside like hunting dogs. The curtains stayed shut and every shadow looked dangerous. A motorcycle engine roared outside and both men froze. Calvin's hand stopped moving toward his mouth with the strawberry lollipop stuck between his fingers. He could see three cars out there, which meant Nathan was taking this seriously. "Friend or enemy?" Martin whispered. They looked through the window gap and saw a woman in black leather getting off the bike. She moved fast but quiet, heading straight for their door like she'd been here before. Three soft knocks came. Tap. Tap tap. Tap. Martin looked relieved. "I know that sound." "Don't," Calvin said while grabbing his friend's arm. He'd seen too many traps that started with familiar signals. Martin pulled away. "It
Chapter 25: Change of Plans.
Right after Elena left the house, Martin's phone buzzed with a notification. Upon seeing it, his face went pale as he handed the phone to Calvin. He looked at it as he took a deep breath. "Isn't that wonderful?" Calvin said. "Nathan has gotten to Tessa Scott before us. That scheming little bastard." Martin stood next to him, staring at the screen of his phone as if he didn't read the notification before. "Famous singer Tessa Scott signs a three year exclusive record deal with Harrington Music Group."Calvin gave the phone back to Martin before pulling out his own. "Change of plans," he said before calling the top of his speed dial. "Abigail," he said in the phone. "I'll need you to do something important. It goes against part of what we agreed, but I'll need you to trust me." And as always, it didn't take a second for Abigail to respond without question or hesitation. "Of course," she said on the phone. "What do you need me to do?"

Chapter 26: Meeting at the Cathedral.
Jason rode his scooter across the street, drenching in the rain and not knowing where to go. For a while, he was simply enjoying the thrill of the ride just to get his mind off what had just happened. But as fate would have it, he found himself riding his bike to one of the places he never imagined he would visit as an adult. He stopped at Saint Catherine's Cathedral, a large building designed like a castle from the middle ages, and if he remembered correctly, it was the place his mother spent most of her waking hours each day. Walking into the church felt like a trip down memory lane, with every glimpse bringing back bittersweet memories. Walking through the long entrance with large and expensive renaissance portraits of the saints reminded him of those times his mother would walk with him into the church. They would stop every few minutes to bow and greet fellow workers in the Cathedral, and Jason would expect a slap on the back of the head each time he forgot to greet an
Chapter 27: Jason's Choice.
Jason stared at his mother with eyes filled with hurt and confusion. "You know him? What do you have to do with him?"Nathan laughed quietly from behind them. "That doesn't matter right now. I'm not here to talk about your mommy issues."Jason turned around to look at Nathan. The man's huge frame blocked most of the light from the exit even while he sat down. "What do you want?" Jason's voice mixed fear with anger.Nathan smiled. He could see all those emotions clearly. But he didn't want to waste time making fun of the young man."This whole music thing you have going with Calvin's new company ends today," Nathan said. "Going against me will do you no good. The results will only add to your long list of failures."Lois took a deep breath. "Nathan, this wasn't what we agreed on."Jason looked at his mother. Pain filled his eyes. "What are you talking about, Lois? Are you working with him now?"Lois didn't answer. She looked calm like always. But Jason could see a small crack that show
Chapter 28: The New Plan.
Jason walked into the studio, drenched from the rain. He shook out his jacket outside before hanging it near the door. Abigail and Joe sat waiting; whether they'd predicted his return or were just venting about him, he couldn't tell. Abigail stood to speak, but Jason cut her off. "Don't feed me more lies. I only came back because I wanted to. I'm here to use you and Calvin to get what I want, just like you use me. No more positive expectations. From now on, our relationship is formal. I'm your asset, you're my boss. Clear?" Abigail took a deep breath, fighting the urge to argue. "Fine." She folded her arms. Joe looked at her in disbelief but stayed quiet. Abigail glanced at him; time to give Jason his seat. Joe got up, and Jason sat down across from her. From her bag, Abigail pulled out her laptop. After a few clicks, she turned the screen toward him. Jason's eyes widened. "The lyric video hit over 10 million streams in less than a day. Top comments are all demanding a music
Chapter 29: Dangerous Games.
The next day, Frank and Tessa arrived at Harrington Tower together. Frank carried only his laptop case and documents while Tessa brought a large bag with her most important belongings. He carried both bags as she walked with just her handbag and phone."Never took you for someone who could live in a company dormitory," Frank said as they headed for the elevator. "You stayed hidden for months, and now you're moving in with company cleaners and female guards. You sure about this?"Tessa's eyes stayed glued to her phone."Tessa?" He said it louder. She jolted. "Were you listening?""Yeah. Look, I prefer being close to the action. I'm the type who runs straight to the studio when inspiration hits. For that to work, I need the best sound equipment available. Besides, after what happened that night, you wouldn't want me anywhere near your house."Frank laughed. "So you do know you were acting crazy?"Tessa smiled as they walke
Chapter 30: Final Warning.
Taking Elena's earlier advice, Calvin decided to go for a walk the next day, ignoring the oddly specific black SUVs parked at the hottest spots in the neighborhood. If he was being followed, those doing it were keeping watch at all the popular places a normal resident would visit. One of those places was a coffee shop about ten minutes from Martin's home.Calvin stopped by the shop, wearing a hoodie and black sunglasses. After getting his coffee, he walked to his seat and pulled out his phone. Nathan's threats still loomed in his mind, so he decided to scroll for a few minutes before thinking of his next move. That's when he felt a very large hand rest on his shoulder. It felt heavy; like it was one move away from crushing him to powder. Calvin looked up and saw his enemy standing behind him."Hello, Calvin." Nathan gently removed his hand as he slowly walked to the other seat at the small round table. "It's been what, less than two weeks since your foolis
