CHAPTER NINETY
As Elena just arrived home, she immediately got a call from an old-time friend. It was a very urgent call from the content."Hi Elena, I know that it has been a long time since we spoke, and you might be wondering why I am calling you so urgently. I just saw your husband Marco with some group of men leaving the eatery. Well, I do not know if it is your husband, but I just have a feeling that he is the one and I felt like informing you," the young lady said to her through the phone.Elena did not know what to do at the moment, but then she has been looking for him for a long time, and all of a sudden her friend is calling her. It would be obvious that who she saw was Marco and no one else.Immediately Elena hung up the call, she picked up her handbag and dashed out of the house because it was really important to her and this was her only chance of meeting her husband. She did not say a word to anybody including her mother and her brother that were in the living room. She had a mission
CHAPTER NINETY ONE
Immediately Stefano left Elena in the room where she was kept, he met with Bruno, the god who spoke with him when he and Don Lugard were called earlier."Okay, Bruno, this is how we are going to do it. We are going to take Elena far away so that Don Lugard would think that we had released her already," Stefano said to him."You know that I had told you earlier before you joined Don Lugard that he was not someone you could work with and he was a very dangerous person, but you wouldn't listen to me," Bruno responded. It was obvious that Bruno knew the kind of person Don Lugard was, and he was doing everything possible to avoid getting into issues with him because he was someone not to be messed with. He knew that what Stefano was doing would cause a lot of issues, and that was why he began to remind him of the beginning."Well, I do not care about that anymore because I am tired of having my father captive. With Elena here as bait, Marco will definitely come out to rescue his wife. No,
CHAPTER NINETY TWO
Marco glanced at Sal. Had he been listening to him all along or waiting...he wanted him to say what it was directly. That was not a problem.“His eyes. I think if we can find the right donor, it would work.” Marco responded. The words struck Sal like a double edged sword. Was he really going to undo what he had laboured for all this time? Yes, he had his daughter back but giving doctor Lorenzo back his eyes seemed like a move and step towards weakness.“Marco, how about you let this be? Let him be blind.” he urged the younger man.“I understand what you are going through.” Marco's switch in tone was visible. It was somewhat soothing yet feather ruffling. This was aimed towards piercing through that heavily armoured heart of Sal that seemed to be made of steel.Yes, the man with the heart of steel...that was Sal.Marco sought his Achilles heel. That was what would break even.“And what exactly am I going through?” Sal demanded, his voice not cracked but reckless. It was like a clear co
CHAPTER NINETY THREE
Just as requested, Tony returned shortly but the Don could not help himself anymore; he immediately wanted to know if anyone had found the mole and Tony was quick to report that he had discovered Elena had met with Susan, one of the club’s strippers, leaving Don Lugard momentarily stunned.“Should we bring in Susan, sir?” Tony asked without hesitation. And after a brief moment of thought, the Don shook his head. “We don’t want to attract unnecessary attention, Tony. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t know what’s going on with this woman you mentioned.”“Have someone keep an eye on her.”Tony nodded respectfully and was about to leave when the Don suddenly remembered Stefano and asked about him.“I’m not sure where he is,” Tony replied, “but I heard he stepped out of the warehouse not long ago.”“But why?” Lugard snapped. “Didn’t he hear we’re trying to play this game strategically now?”“Should we call him, boss?” Tony asked after a moment. But Don Lugard tilted his head slightly, sig
CHAPTER NINETY FOUR
Elena was left with Bruno, who constantly came to check up on her, as Stefano had gone to meet with Don Lugard. At some point, Bruno came into where she was kept and asked her if she needed to drink water because she was looking dry, and he felt it would be necessary if he could offer a little help to her."Yes, I need to drink water, and I also need my freedom. I am not supposed to be here, and I do not know anything about me being here. I don't know if you could help me, please," Elena pleaded with Bruno for her release.Bruno was having pity for her at some point, but he was under her command, and he did not want to get into trouble with anyone.Elena kept on pleading, and then he finally agreed that he was going to help her get out of the place."I am going to release you on one condition. Besides, our boss had already ordered us to release you, but you are going to promise me that you are not going to call the police or do anything about this. You are going to go back home and re
CHAPTER NINETY FIVE
Elena had remained quiet in the back seat as Bruno had been driving for a long time, and it was already late. It was obvious that Elena would have been bored and had slept off as usual. He could no longer continue the journey because it was very late, so he had to stop in a motel where they could spend the night probably.Bruno came out of the car as he went to the back seat where Elena was tied up, and there he woke her up and untied her hands. This time around, Elena was quiet as he removed all that he used to stuff her mouth up. Regardless of her silence, Bruno had to warn her again because it was obvious that she was a crazy lady."As you can see, we are about to go into that motel. I want you to be on your best behavior because if you do not comport yourself, I will kill you," Bruno said to her with seriousness.Elena was quiet, although she was looking so nonchalant. She acted as though she did not listen to any words that he spoke, and then he noticed it in her face."You might
CHAPTER NINETY SIX
Fortunately for Elena, she woke up in the night and then began to think of what to do as the thought of escaping came to her mind. She felt it was a nice idea, and it was also a proper time to escape, but she had to make sure that Bruno was asleep. She quietly sat on the bed and then peeped at Bruno where he was seated beside it, done with his eyes closed and the gun in his hand. It was obvious that he was probably asleep, and that was the proper time to escape for her.She knew that she had to be as quiet as possible so that she would not get caught, and any mistake she made at that moment would make Bruno put an eye on her, and it would reduce the chances of her escaping his captivity, which she did not want to happen.Elena did not just start taking action; rather, she sat down and began to think of the way she could go through. There were two means of escape for her, which were the door where Bruno was seated asleep and the window which she knew how to climb.Elena decided that sh
CHAPTER NINETY SEVEN
Sal had not moved since the moment he took that call. The air between them was thick enough to choke a crowd. Marco stood there, tension clinging to his body like sweat, eyes burning with questions he desperately needed answered.“Sal… who took whom… who took her…?” Marco’s voice trembled with something dangerously close to fear.He knew something had happened and his fears, clearly pointed at the fact that it had to do with Isabella. At this auspicious time and moment. That was bad...if Sal was distracted then Don Lugard would have an edge. His heart flew to his mother. Was it time he plotted to take her?Besides, where on earth was he going to get man power and momentum from?No fighters... no money. He was a nobody in a world full of dangerous people.“Relax, Marco... Rome was not built in one swoop. You just hang to position yourself with esteem and your followers would come in their troops.” Antonio chided.“Would that be enough? In this world of ours, money is key. Power is nee
CHAPTER NINETY EIGHT
The moment Sal stepped out, the cold air of the hallway swallowed the silence he left behind. Marco remained still for a second… trying to steady the storm inside him… trying not to let the weight of those three words consume him. They took her…But Sal had walked away. No answers. No comfort. No direction. Marco could still hear Sal’s boots hitting the old stones, each step echoing like a retreat… or was it a warning?Jose was still there… arms folded… sizing Marco up with those aged, experienced eyes that always caught more than they let on. The thug always showed that he had been in the game and understood everything perfectly. He was receptive of course and had been the only one that has extended Marco an arm of friendship and companionship.Yes, no one could be trusted in the midst of all chaos but maybe, he could reach Jose.“Play it safe, Marco. Leave no room for weakness.” Antonio instructed.Weakness? No way would he give room for such trifling emotion to overtake him again.
CHAPTER NINETY NINE
Marco worked quietly, his movements steady even though the atmosphere in the hall felt thick and metallic. The scent of bleach lingered in the air, not strong enough to mask the underlying odor of old blood and damp concrete. He pulled back the old dusty stained sheets covering a particular bed, his jaw tightening as the reality of where he stood pressed in again. This room had seen too many things… None of them clean. From the yellowish to the brownish stains... even blacked dotted ones, he knew a lot had happened. His head glanced around the space, wondering deep down if there were ghosts who still lingered... holding onto something dear to them that probably stemmed from how they had died. This monastery...it was old. Which means, it had survived wars and times of hunger and sickness.Marco wondered still...were there experiments conducted on people here? The human being was never so far off dangerous speculations. He peeled the sheet away from the mattress and folded it in on i
