Aureus PR SolutionsThis was the subsidiary company Sebastian worked at.The building’s glass façade gleamed under the noonday sun, but inside, the atmosphere was anything but bright. Several of the employees were gathered in the lounge and watching the latest news about the hospital ceiling collapse. When Elias strode into his team section, he saw the employees gathered, watching. Most of them were not dressed appropriately. Some had pulled off their buttons and their shirts were not tucked in, some were wearing flip flops and some of the ladies were even busy retouching their makeup as they discussed. Elias raised a brow at this sight. So unbridled? However, he didn't attract their attention as he leaned back on the doorframe to listen into their chatter. The screen was currently showing Lila addressing the media as the spokesperson of the company. She was dressed corporately and seemed quite composed unlike how casual and easygoing she looked earlier that morning in a nightdress.

“You. You. And you.” Elias pointed casually, but his words landed like a hammer.“You’re fired.”The lounge fell silent. At first, the three men he’d pointed at didn’t move, as though they were all entranced. Likewise, the rest of the employees were gaping in shock and sharing glances with each other. Then, as though the spell broke, one of the men Elias pointed at—the one with the coffee cup—snorted.“Fired? Hah.” He straightened in his chair, lips curling into a smirk. “You can’t be serious. You don’t even have the authority to fire us. That goes through HR.”His bold words seemed to have brought everyone out of their shock and the others he had singled out quickly found their voices.“Exactly,” another scoffed, tugging at his loose tie. “Are you trying to play boss? You show up twice a month and now suddenly you’re God?”The third leaned forward, his tone sharper. “And of course, you spare her—” he jabbed a finger toward Lina, who flinched, “—because she’s a woman. What is this, fa

The moment he disappeared, the room erupted in whispers.“Review meeting?”“In twenty minutes?!”“Damn it, I need a jacket—”“Flip flops, you’re done for, bro.”Chairs scraped, people rushed, and panic set in as everyone scrambled around trying to fix their clothes and prepare whatever they could for the meeting. And Lina with her lipstick still clutched tightly in her hand exhaled shakily. She had just been spared the axe, but she knew it wasn’t out of kindness. She had just returned to her desk right opposite his office when the intercom rang. Lina was Sebastian's assistant so she was placed nearest to his office. When the intercom rang, she quickly grabbed a notepad and a pen before rushing off to his office. Upon getting there, she found him standing by the floor-to-ceiling window with his suit off.He turned when he heard her enter and went straight to the point, “Give a brief of everything that happened in the office since I came last.”Lina nearly dropped her pen. Of all the th

“You!”The sharp call froze Elias as he stepped into the quiet hall.He turned slowly. His mother-in-law, Margot, stood there with her arms folded, and her eyes shining with obvious hostility. “You still have the face to walk in here,” she sneered, scanning him from head to toe. “Dragging mud back into this house as if we don’t have enough scandals already.”Elias gave a polite nod. “Good evening.”The woman however didn’t seem impressed by his amiable attitude. “Don’t give me that fake politeness, Sebastian.” Her frown deepened. “You’re eating our food, sleeping under our roof, and clinging to my daughter like dead weight. Tell me, what do you actually contribute here? Do you even bring home a salary worth mentioning? Even our drivers take home more than you.”Her voice turned shrill, and it was full of mockery. “I heard you said you didn’t want a divorce.” She actually laughed, shaking her head like it was absurd. “Why?”Elias was silent. His silence and calmness however seemed to

Elias’s eyes lingered on the hashtags before he clicked on one.It turned out, the matter had taken a turn for the worse. One of the victims of the accident had a chronic heart condition. The stress and jolt from the collapse worsened it, and he died from cardiac arrest. Now, the internet had erupted.Threads upon threads carried photos of the victim, a middle-aged man whose grieving wife clutched their child during a tearful interview. Broadcasters replayed it again and again, feeding the fire.“My husband was recovering,” the woman sobbed, her voice cracking. “He would still be alive if not for that collapse. Halberg killed him!”There was even a video of the victim’s last moments. Elias watched for a few seconds before sighing. It was a pity that the man’s life had been lost, and inevitably, the blame would fall on Halberg’s construction operations. His jaw slowly tightened. It would take a miracle to sway the court of public sentiment back from such an accident. He was still think

The atmosphere in the room turned hostile then and the two young men seemed to be about to throw hands. “Enough, Owen.” Thomas’s low voice tried to rein him in, but his son’s glare stayed fixed on Julian. At that moment, Edward of the third branch raised a hand lightly. “Let’s not turn this into a shouting match. We all want what’s best for the family.” He smiled thinly after that, his eyes calculating. “But perhaps… what Halberg needs is fresh stewardship. Our branch has deep ties in media and entertainment and our resources could redirect the narrative almost overnight.”As he spoke, he was looking directly at Thomas like a thoughtful brother. However, the second branch’s face kept changing between black and white in offense. It was clear what he was thinking. Before they could respond, his daughter Lena gave a light laugh, twirling her phone between manicured fingers. “The internet already hates Halberg. But if I stepped in as the face? Audiences adore me.” She turned her screen,

The loud slam of the door of Elias’s office echoed through the floor like a gunshot. Lina flinched, half-standing from her chair. “S-sir, you can’t just—!”But the man ignored her completely, striding forward with heavy, angry steps that made the floor seem to quake beneath him.Elias’s head lifted slowly from his desk. The man who came was in his late thirties, a little on the pudgy side, with a round face that flushed easily when he got worked up. His thinning hair was slicked back too neatly, and his suit strained slightly around the middle as though it hadn’t kept up with his waistline. Beady eyes glared from behind rimless glasses, and his jowls quivered as he spoke.“Sebastian,” he spat the name like a curse, “you’ve grown wings. How dare you fire my person!?”Lina stumbled in right behind him, breathless as she looked at Elias anxiously. “Sir, I—I tried to stop him, but he wouldn’t listen—”Elias raised a hand slightly. His expression didn’t shift much. “It’s fine.”She froze,

The faint hum of the air conditioner filled the office.Lina stood at the door, her face drained of color. “We’ve been assigned to the Halberg Collapse,” she said, her voice trembling.Elias set down the report in his hand, his expression unreadable. “When?”“It—it came in just now,” she stammered as she hurried over to him, placing a file on his desk.Elias picked the file up and opened it. Inside was a brief weekly assignment list. He had seen the previous week’s list, and it was obvious this team was simply there for show. But now, this week’s schedule was filled to the brim, and the Halberg scandal sat right at the top of the list.Lina watched his face—which still held an unreadable expression—and couldn’t control her anxiety.“The first holding statement is in two hours,” she said. “It’s set with Halberg representatives and the internal PR board.”Elias was silent. After a while, he shut the file.He leaned back slightly, eyes narrowing just a fraction. “Which team usually handl

He stood slowly, one hand resting on the back of his chair. “Halberg’s made every statement from the position of defense so far, hasn't it?”“Yes, sir,” Colin said uncertainly.“Then we stop defending.” Elias went on, “We issue a statement declaring that Halberg Group will request a public audit into all their past construction projects starting with St. Ives Hospital. We announce that every file, every permit, and every report will be handed to the city’s safety commission for review. Immediately.”A beat of silence followed, and the staff members looked at themselves as if he had grown three heads.Even Lina who was beside him blinked. “Sir… that’s— That’s practically inviting them to dig our grave.”Elias looked up from the table, his expression unreadable.“Better to hand them the shovel than let them come for our throats,” he said simply. The words sank like a stone, and for a long moment, no one spoke.“Sir, you can’t be serious—”“We don’t even have clearance.”“That’ll drag th

Mark Danner stood there, face flushed, his eyes flicking immediately to the projection screen still displaying the Halberg page. His voice came out sharp and disbelieving—“Are you all out of your damn minds?!”The shout cracked across the room like a loose gunshot.Everyone flinched. For a split second, no one even breathed. Then chairs scraped as the employees scrambled up, someone stammered, and panic broke the silence.“S–Sir— we can explain—”“It was just a draft at first—”Danner’s glare cut through them once he heard their murmur.“Who authorized this?” he barked. “Who in hell thought they had the right to publish an official Halberg statement without clearance?”No one answered.Instead, their gaze slowly moved toward Elias, who was sitting there calmly—neither claiming responsibility nor denying it.Several of them sighed inwardly. They had already been antsy knowing they would have to pay for doing such a thing, but they still did it because he vouched to take responsibility
