Chapter 101 — THE ASSASSIN'S HUNT
I moved my head quickly to the side and watched the blade hit the ground. I kicked the attacker so hard and watch it stagger off me. I stood up and was about to go when I felt an intense pain was beyond description. I looked back to see that it had buried the tip of it's blade at me back. The agonizing pain isn't only from the stab, but radiating outward through my entire core. Every breath sent fresh waves of torment through my back. Every movement made the wound tear wider. As the assassin pulled the sword back for another strike, I threw myself sideways, my hand grabbing the nearest object I could lay my hands on and hurled it at the assassin's head. Although ot deflected it with casual ease, this bought me a second. I scramble backward, finding more to throw at it but it keeps dodging them while still advancing steadily. I ripped the lamp from its mounting and threw it at them. The oil splashed across the floor, creating a slick barrier between us. This fina
Chapter 102 — THE ASSASSINATION ATTACKER
I closed my eyes to finally accept my fate after trying so much to fight and hold on to dear hope. I thought I could do it, but I see that doesn't seemed to be the case. The image of Cent and Vivi popped up in my head. Their smiles, their voices, their mannerism. I will kill to have again but seeing the fact that I might not experience that sent bile to my mouth. I hate how my brain is playing my memory in my last moment as a way to mock me for not doing enough. My eyes have been closed for so long that I wonder what's going on. I opened it to see the attacker trying to get something off it's back. A figure must have swiftly crashed into the assassin from behind. I squint my eyes when I noticed the small statue. It could only mean one person. Katseye. She must have gotten in quietly or maybe it was the banging that distracted me. Anyway, I'm relieved to see her here. I could use a little help. She wrapped her arms around the assassin's neck and drove something in
Chapter 103 — TRAILING BEHIND
Casimir stood before the hidden armory, his expression carved from stone. The sophisticated weapons gleamed in the lamplight which is also one of the fascinating things that looked far too advanced for this supposedly primitive underground city. "You have many enemies, High-Lord Casimir." Jace spoke, breaking the tense silence. "Who do you think is the one......specifically." "High-Lord Vex, obviously." Casimir's jaw tightened. "He was here earlier, making threats. Then there's this scientist named Shen who has Aldo been campaigning against my policies for months. I have a feeling that the two of them must be working together in making sure to bring me down." "So, that's two targets." Jace's hand moved to one of the weapons, examining it. "We could storm their residences simultaneously and hit them hard and fast. Maybe that way, they'll be forced to release Katseye as a way to protect themselves from further damage." "No." Casimir's voice was firm. "That would put my daughter i
CHAPTER 104 — THE WALL FALLS
Footsteps pounded toward me that made me realize that It was time to go. I began to make my way back when I hear voices drawing closer. The worse part is that I don't know which direction they are coming from. I move either side I might bump into them and if I stay here, that will be worse. My chances of getting caught had risen to eighty percent. Maybe someone had spot me and had brought reinforcement. Suddenly, a hand grabbed my shoulder and quickly covered my mouth with it's other hand to muffle my scream as it yanked away from the spot I was standing on. We got to a tunnel and I was forced to turn and saw that it was Jace. "Are you insane?" he hissed. "You're supposed to be under the radar! Instead you're running around like—" "They were talking about Katseye's kidnapping," I interrupted. "They said it was deserved and thar it would teach her and her father a lesson. How was I supposed to stay still after hearing that. " That's exactly what you were supposed
Chapter 105 — THE TRUTH UNVEILED
A gunshot cracked through the air. The mutant's head exploded, spraying dark fluid across the rubble. Its body collapsed mid-charge, momentum carrying it forward to slide to a stop at Jace's feet. Three figures emerged from a side passage which are vigilantes with their weapons still smoking. "What the hell are both if you doing here?" the lead vigilante demanded, his eyes scanning the both of us and the destruction. "It is dangerous here, you need to evacuate this area immediately!" "My parents," Jace said, his voice breaking. "They are supposed to be here. I'll just need to find them and then we will be on our way—" "Nobody's going to make another step forward." The vigilante gestured at the ruined buildings. "You turn around and run off to the bunker little kid, this entire place is overrun." "You don't understand—" "I understand perfectly. And you're not going in." The vigilante's tone softened slightly. "Look, I get it. But if you go in there, you're just adding anot
Chapter 106 — THE REACTION
Casimir led me to a quieter section of the bunker, away from the chaos of the command center. The space was small, barely large enough for the two of us, but at least it was private. "Sit," he commanded, gesturing to a crude stone bench. I sat, wincing as the movement pulled at my wounds. He remained standing, his stern face flickering with indecision. A part of him want to scold me but the other simply want to question me. "Ash told me what really happened." He stated. "The fact that you could do something so foolish is bewildering." I stiffened on my chair. "I think that they are hiding her in the place. I followed them there." "That wasn't the instructions I gave." He scolded. "I didn't give you any instructions." "So, I didn't disobey you—" "You did morethan that." He pulled out a finger. "You stubbornly refused to listen to Jace." pulled out another finger. "You forgot that I specifically made an instruction that you should not be seen." pulled out another finger. "An
Chapter 107 — THE BREAK-IN
There was chaos everywhere as they all began pushing each other to go. This action caused a little girl to fall. I had to rush in to save her before she get trampled on. "What's going on here?" Casimir demanded, pushing through the crowd. People recognized him and slowly parted to make a way for Casimir. Their fingers pointed to one direction and as Casimir got closer, he saw where the problem was. Standing in front where vigilantes with expressions of helpless rage. We reached the blockade and Casimir's face had gone cold. "Why aren't you letting them through?" His voice carried absolute authority. One of the vigilantes, which seemed to be the leader, from his bearing, met Casimir's glare without flinching. "High elites are sheltering inside. An order was given that they should find another bunker elsewhere." The words hung in the air for a heartbeat. Then Casimir's fist shot out. The punch caught the vigilante clean on the jaw. The man's head snapped back and h
CHAPTER 108 — FLASHBACK
I remembered clearly, a few months before my mother's sudden illness. She would wake up early to organize things for the day and made sure we were ready for school. I always take Cent and Vivi to school first before I rush to mine, but for some reason, I realized that I had forgotten my ID. "I thought I kept it in here." I panicked, ravaging through my backpack. Tobi groaned. "Seriously Kae, of all things?" "Be lenient with me, I can't carry my ID when I'm looking for a job." I complained. It is illegal to work when you are in a junior high. Coming from a background where we struggle, I thought hustling would help take my mother's attention away from me. I might not be contributing, but I make sure I cover some stuffs like paying for my school necessities, school field trips and many other things that is related to my education. I'm even saving up to help further my education and if I'm unfortunately culled, at least my little siblings will have something for school if I
CHAPTER 109 — TAKEN HOSTAGE
They dragged me through passages that looked cramped for three persons to move at the same time. My feet have given out a long time ago as I'm being taken somewhere that I'm sure is far from Casimir while my mind somewhere else entirely. Vex walked ahead of us, humming softly to himself. He looked rather pleased with how events had unfolded without much hassle as he expected. We reached a corridor where we came to a halt "Let's stop here." Vex demanded. "You can release him now." They released me and stepped back, awaiting for the next instruction. "I'll call if I need you." He dismissed the soldiers with a wave. They all turned to walk away, leaving Vex and I alone in the empty passage. Vex opened the door before him and stepped aside for me to go through. Why does he want to talk to me in a secluded place such as this? Does he want to harm me? "I'll rather we talk here." "The walls have ears." He paused. "Beside, you are in no position to negotiate with me." When the
CHAPTER 110 — CORNERED
The guards appeared at the end of the corridor, their faces twisted with rage. I must have made them look incompetent in front of their superior and they were definitely not going to let that slide. "You're going to regret that," one of them growled, advancing. They lunged simultaneously, trying to overwhelm me with many strikes. I dove to the side, barely avoiding the first guard's grabbing hands but the second one pivoted faster than I expected, his fist catching my shoulder. Pain exploded through the joint. I rolled, came up in a crouch as they circled, trying to box me in against the wall. Behind the locked door, I could still hear Katseye screaming and the mutant's clicking grew more frenzied. "Kae! Please, hurry!" I had to get that door open and get her out of there quickly. The first guard charged. I sidestepped, using his momentum against him and shoved him into the wall. He hit his head hard almost blanking out due to the impact. The second guard was alrea
