CHAPTER EIGHTY-ONE“Did you just tell me to shut up?” Ben asked just to be certain, looking at the money he had given to Adrian and trying to be sure that they were the exact amount he thought of.His two guards were already waiting for the moment when he was going to give them the order to deal with Adrian, seeing his utterance as totally unacceptable.Elara was eager to understand what was going on, but the only thing she could do was stare at Adrian while she tried to find her words. “What is happening, Adrian? What are you doing?” She finally spoke, but her voice was barely above a whisper, her eyes demanding an immediate explanation. Adrian took a deep breath, and then he looked her in the eyes, pushing two steps forward.“I am doing right by you, Elara. Do you trust me?” He asked what suddenly became the hardest question to Elara. If he had asked her that question about an hour earlier, then maybe she could have said yes without thinking twice about it.But at that moment, and

CHAPTER EIGHTY-TWO “I am Ben Ferguson! I am sure you must have heard that name!” Ben continued moving backward, his chest tightening while he staggered. He thought that he was finally going to be able to flee from Adrian, but the pavement behind him had other plans. He stumbled upon it and fell, and before he could crawl away, Adrian had already grabbed him by the neck, pulling him up with brutal force. “I can make you disappear, Adrian! I think you are making a very terrible mistake!” Ben swallowed hard, finding it very hard to hold onto the little courage that he had.His voice had become slippery, and his eyes were still bulging like they were getting ready to crawl away from their sockets. Adrian didn’t seem like he was ready to budge, tightening his grip on Ben’s neck. “I have something I want you to do, Ben.” He started with a low tone, and after a few seconds of silence, he continued with a voice that was barely above a whisper. “You are going to crawl to Elara. You will

CHAPTER EIGHTY-THREE Slowly, Elara turned to Adrian and gestured to him, and then she looked down at Ben, heaving a heavy sigh that let delight crawl into her body. Finally, she was able to smile genuinely since she walked into the premises, her beam radiating all over her face. Adrian moved closer to Ben, and without warning, he kicked him very hard in his leg, causing him to gasp, jerking with wide eyes. “That’s enough! Let go of her!” Adrian growled, and Ben did as he was told at once, crawling away from Elara. He sat on the ground, panting for air while he avoided Elara like the plague. He didn’t bother to say a word as all that mattered was getting a grip on himself. “You are lucky that Elara decided to show you mercy.” Adrian broke the silence, scowling at Ben. “I bet you will never know how to cross her path again.” “I will never!” Ben swore, nodding distraughtly. “I know,” Adrian remarked, and then he nodded. “I don’t need to remind you of what fate w

CHAPTER EIGHTY-FOUR Adrian drove out of the premises a few seconds after Elara moved into the mansion. He purposefully drove slowly as though he had the entire time in the world to get to his destination, his grip on the steering wheel lose and soft at the same time. Luckily, the road he drove in didn’t have so much cars making use of it, and this made his ride easier and faster. In less that thirty minutes, he was able to get to his destination- a metal house that had grasses sprouting all over. The silence and the strange feeling that hovered all over the place caused Adrian to remain in his car, and for a moment, he doubted if he was in the right place. “Where did all of them go?” He muttered under his shaky breath, ignoring the feeling to alight from the car.His instincts kept on telling him that something was not right, his eyes scouring the vicinity until they ended up looking at the metal house again. For five minutes, Adrian remained inside his car, battling the mixed f

CHAPTER EIGHTY-FIVE It was hard for Adrian not to feel the sensation that gripped him, especially as his chest tightened. There were two feelings inside him, and while one was urging him to take the first step, it was hard to tell what the other was trying to say to him.Whatever it was, he was very convinced that it was trying to tell him not to make any move.“Maybe this was a bad idea.” He thought to himself, but it soon became obvious that it was going to be a wasted effort for him to drive all the way and fail to accomplish his mission. Taking a deep breath, he made his way to the metal house, the rusts all over it becoming more visible as he drew closer. A few moments later, he was already standing in front of the wooden door that made it very obvious that it never belonged there but was forced to fit in. He pushed his left hand forward, but something stopped him from grabbing the metal knob. He sighed heavily, reaching inside his mind for the memories that he had almost f

CHAPTER EIGHTY-SIX “I think you need to calm down, Maya.” Adrian said calmly, and when he tried to take a step closer to the lady, she threatened to shoot, pushing her finger closer to the trigger.“I am going to shoot you if you do that again! Don’t test my patience!” Maya warned, glowering at him. “Leave and never come back!” She said, standing on her resolve.“No.” Adrian said, insisting on staying.“There is no way I am leaving this place, Maya. At least, you have to hear me out…” He paused for a while, but his eyes were still staring at the arrow that was glaring at him, promising to pierce through his skull and end his life.“I didn’t stay away by choice, Maya. You know that I would never do that to you. Not when I knew that you needed me.” His voice was low, yet it was audible enough to get to Maya’s ears. She fought the feeling inside her, but it kept on reminding her that Adrian was telling the truth. She could also see the honesty in his eyes, and in no time, she was alrea

CHAPTER EIGHTY-SEVEN “You have to, Seth.” Maya insisted, grabbing her son’s hand.“You don’t deserve to be in this kind of place. He is going to take you with him and make sure that you live a happy life. You have to go with him,”More tears fell from her eyes as she wept bitterly, shifting her gaze to Adrian.“You made a promise to his father that you were not going to let anything happen to him, Adrian Khan. You have to fulfill that promise,” She coughed again, and as soon as she was able to get a grip on herself, she turned to Seth and took a strained breath. “I am sorry that I couldn’t stay with you, Seth. I am not as strong as I thought I was.” “No, Mother! You are coming with us!” Seth cried, turning to Adrian with desperation buried deep in his eyes.“She has to come with us! I can’t leave her here!” He sniffled, begging with his eyes. Adrian sighed heavily, and then he turned to Maya who had become too weak to say even a word.“When I made a promise to your husband, I swo

Adrian’s words made Maya feel very cold. For the umpteenth time, she looked at the pill that was resting in the middle of her left palm. Eventually, she slowly put the pill inside her mouth and began to chew. Then she groaned, squeezing her face at the bitter taste. “Why does it taste so horribly?! I want some water!” She looked around, only to discover that Seth had left with the water. “You don’t need water, Maya. That’s going to reduce the potency. Make sure you swallow everything.” Adrian sounded like a very mean teacher, standing and watching silently as Maya struggled with the bitter taste that almost made her vomit. She held onto her belly, grunting and squeezing until she was eventually able to swallow the pill, panting heavily.“Can I have the water now?!” She begged, narrowing her pupils. Adrian looked around, and after a while, he shook his head. “No, Maya. Your saliva will suffice. I am not sure about the type of water you two have been drinking.” Maya grunted, a

CHAPTER EIGHTY-NINE Adrian looked at the man for a few seconds, and then he took a deep breath, watching as he stepped forward while his men cleared the way for him. He was as young as Adrian, even though the roughness of his skin could make anyone doubt that. His head was bald, and he had tattoos all over his face, holding onto the pistol that was tightly gripped by his right hand. He looked like he was the only one with a gun, but there was no guarantee that the others were not hiding weapons inside their huge brown coats. “What does he want?” Adrian asked with a whisper without looking back at Maya. Maya sighed in despair, and it took her a while before she finally broke her silence.“Brymo claims this land belongs to him, and has been sending his boys to harass us.” She paused for a while, glaring at the annoying fellow who was still sauntering toward her like he had the entire time in the world. “Sometimes, his men take our kills, saying that they are rent for this place. CHAPTER NINETY “Don’t worry…” Adrian broke his silence, already assuring Maya with his smile before he could finish his words. “I am going to teach them that when someone points a gun at my loved ones, they will suffer greatly for it. Adrian slowly returned his gaze to Brymo, and then he grunted, inching a step closer to him. “I will suggest you lower that gun, Brymo. Let us go, and I will pretend that none of this happened. You can have the land if the government permits you,” “Too late for that!” Brymo snapped, and then he pointed the gun to Adrian’s face, causing Maya to gasp. Adrian tutted, and then he looked at the rest of the men standing behind Brymo. After a careful observation, he inched closer to the gun until there was barely an inch of space between it and his forehead. Brymo widened his eyes, and then he looked at the gun to be certain that he was not holding a gun. “This is not a toy, boy!” I am going to shoot you with it and no one will make a fuss about
