CHAPTER 21
Kevin put on the patient’s uniform first, and woke up the nurse who had fallen to the floor. She briefed him what happened.Kevin thanked the doctor who saved him.The doctor did not take full credit. He told Kevin that it was a girl named Alice who brought him to the hospital in time.Unfortunately, she did not give any further information, so Kevin had no way of finding out her identity. The thought of looking at the CCTV footage didn’t cross his mind then.Because the bill was paid, Kevin was allowed to leave.Kevin came out and called for a taxi and left. Not far from there, an old man was watching while standing under an umbrella. It was Butler Huggard.“Does this guy have nine lives like a cat or what?” Huggard appeared annoyed. “This is the third time he escaped death.”Their initial plan wasn’t to kill Kevin but only cripple him so that Cecilia would divorce him. However, after Huggard told Jack that Kevin defeated all the thugs, Jack changed his mind and sent officers to get
CHAPTER 22
The cries of people were being overshadowed by the flames and the smoke that kept rising in the sky.Inside the bus, the world became chaos dictated by smoke.People couldn’t even scream as thick, black smoke clawed at their throats. Some were banging the door, but the automatic doors were jammed. Some tried breaking a window, but the flames licked faster than they could act.One figure climbed through the broken back window—not in panic, but with purpose. But he could not tell where the people were or how many there were.Through the smog, his silhouette glowed faintly—silver veins crawling beneath his skin, light pulsing in rhythm with his heartbeat. It was as though steel itself flowed inside him and strengthened him.“Everybody, down! Stay low and breathe through your sleeves!”Kevin’s voice cut through the chaos like a whip. Some listened to him, but most people didn’t.The air shimmered with heat, the kind that could melt tires and blister skin in seconds. There were already peo
CHAPTER 23
The explosion of the bus scattered the people, forcing them to move backwards. The heat and the smoke spread out, scaring everyone.Even the ones gathered around Kevin backed away.Only Huggard was still standing next to Kevin. He could see Kevin struggling, probably trying to not lose consciousness with sheer will.“Why take such a risk to save strangers?” Huggard subtly pointed the umbrella tip at Kevin and pressed a button.A laser bullet flew out of its tip and pierced Kevin’s chest.Kevin stopped moving. The attack was so fast it couldn’t even be seen with the naked eye. Though the laser struck Kevin’s chest, it left no wound.Huggard turned around and calmly walked away as if nothing happened.“Is he alright?” some people gathered around Kevin. “Is he the one who saved us? He’s not awake. He must have inhaled a lot of smoke. We can’t let him die.”Huggard returned to his car and entered it. Then he made a phone call to Jack Shamus and said, “It’s done, Boss.”“Are you sure?”“Hi
CHAPTER 24
At FlavorNest headquarters.Brielle was checking the sales of the past week, and her assistant rushed into the room and switched the TV on.“What’s wrong?” Brielle asked. “Why are you sweating?”The assistant, a curly-haired brunette, nervously said, “You should see this yourself, ma’am.”“Mm?” It was rare to see her assistant be so nervous, so Brielle let go of the mouse and turned her chair toward the television and waited. The assistant changed the channel to a news program, and they were talking about a major bus accident. The survivors were all talking about the man who single-handedly saved more than thirty people, including an unconscious child and the bus driver.“Why are you showing me this?” Brielle asked. “What does it have to do with us?”“Please wait, ma’am,” the assistant said.A moment later, Kevin’s picture was shown on the screen.“What the…” Brielle nearly got up from the chair. “Is that Kevin? Why is he…”“The hero who saved all the passengers was Kevin Kingsley,” t
CHAPTER 25
Huggard stopped by a high-end restaurant, Flowersmeet, where it would cost a thousand dollars just to reserve the table. But the most unique thing about this restaurant was that new customers couldn’t directly book a table. They need to get the entry coupon from old customers who had already eaten at the restaurant once.Only through these entry coupons, booking a table was possible for new customers. And they would be given named flower badges that would serve as their identity.Huggard entered the restaurant and quietly observed Cecilia talking with the owner of the restaurant about improving on the interior designs.“Paper can absorb the perfume and keep the scent for a long time,” Cecilia explained. “You can use different textures for different sections, depending on the customers’ preference.”“That’s why I called you. I’m tired of the plastic decorations,” the owner told her. “Using your paper decorations as base, I want to mix real flowers within those decorations you create, an
CHAPTER 26
Even though it’s been more than an hour since Kevin had rescued the passengers from the bus, his adrenaline was still not going down. There was only one reason for this: Jack Shamus.Kevin could not take that person’s name or face off his mind. So, he followed Jack and ended up arriving at the restaurant.Kevin stepped out of the taxi and reached the main entrance, but the guard blocked him.“Do you have the flower badge or the entry coupon?” the guard asked impolitely because Kevin’s dress was covered in dirt and smoke. He looked like he was coming from a double shift in a mine or something.“Can’t I enter without those things?” Kevin asked back.“No, you can’t,” the guard put his hand on Kevin’s chest and pushed him back. “You’re blocking the path, so you should leave.”The guard’s gut twisted suddenly, and he quickly ran to the nearest bathroom.Kevin was about to enter the restaurant, but he caught a glimpse of Cecilia. What’s more, she seemed to be seated at the same table as Jac
CHAPTER 27
Kevin stood on the sidewalk, his body still but his thoughts whirling through his head.He wanted to let Cecilia handle things on her own, but what if Jack was trying to do something crazy to her? After much thinking, Kevin was heading back toward the restaurant.A blind beggar arrived there with a bowl in her hand. Her stomach growled, and her nose was being pulled by the rich aroma coming from the restaurant. She was old, dirty, and smelly. A waiter came rushing out and dragged her away.“Please give me something to eat,” she begged the waiter, grabbing him by his leg.“Get lost from here,” the waiter kicked her away. She fell on the bowl, and the few coins in the bowl scattered in different directions. She hurriedly searched for the coins. She found four of them, but she was not able to find the last one.She kept searching for that last coin with her hands.Kevin picked up the coin and put it in her hand.“Thank you,” she said.“Are you okay?” he asked. “Do you need some food?”“Y
CHAPTER 28
“What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Kevin confidently smiled at Jack.Jack briefly glanced at Huggard who couldn’t keep eye contact with him.Huggard was confused.Kevin was supposed to be dead. So, how was he still alive? This truly boggled his mind.“Are you following Mrs. Cecilia?” Jack asked what he believed was a tough question, one that would put Kevin in a troublesome situation.Cecilia looked at Kevin, waiting for his response. He had just called her, and now, he showed up, so something didn’t feel right.“Why are you sitting with my wife?” Kevin asked back. “Are you talking about business? Or are you trying to seduce her?”Cecilia was startled. “Kevin, didn’t I tell you why I came to this restaurant? Mr. Jack just happened to come here, and he started the conversation. That’s all that happened. Don’t you trust me?”“I trust you more than I trust myself,” Kevin quickly replied, “but I don’t trust this guy. He’s the one who followed you here, yet acting like your
CHAPTER 29
Cecilia came out of the restaurant. She could not find Kevin anywhere. It worried her a little bit.She looked around for a minute, and she found him sitting at a bench in the distance. She went over and sat next to him. She could see that he wasn’t smiling or anything.“Nothing is happening between me and Jack,” Cecilia said. “If there is something, I will tell you. I would never do anything behind your back. Can you trust me with that?”She sounded earnest.“I told you already that I trust you more than I trust myself,” Kevin replied. “But…” he wanted to ask her about why she would write such a selfish will after marriage. Then again, he couldn’t do it.“But what?”“I find my confidence wavering…” Kevin slightly frowned. “I can’t blame anyone else but me. It’s been so long since we got married. We haven’t even gone out on a honeymoon. I’m not earning as much as you. It must be hard for you to talk to your friends.”“Yeah. Some voices calling me ‘infertile’ reached my ears, but they

At O’Brian mansion.Brielle came home in the evening, looking tired.Naomi greeted her and helped carry her bag.Brielle smiled but didn’t go out of her way to appreciate Naomi’s efforts.“Did he come home?” Brielle asked.“Who? Dabby?”“No, Kevin.”“Yes, he and Cecilia came home together,” Naomi replied. “And they were both smiling as though they had been to a movie together.”“What?” Brielle found it hard to believe. “You’re joking, right?”“I wish I was, but I wasn’t lying, Aunt,” Naomi’s tone turned a bit serious. “I don’t understand how Cecilia can still want that guy after seeing him fight with thugs in the street. At first I thought she was just infatuated by him, but they won’t live in separate rooms for this long and not apply for divorce. I don’t understand what Cecilia is thinking anymore.”Brielle didn’t say anything. (What is Cecilia thinking? She has been approached by many men in the past couple of years. Even an influential person like Jack Shamus has shown interest in
