CHAPTER 1: ON THE VERGE OF DEATH
A thick mist perpetually hung in the Valley of Silence, a name that now sounded ironic. Long ago, it was here that a mid-tier White Stream Sect once stood, where a child named Ba Bel first found his destiny. However, sixty years ago, this valley became the epicenter of a war that marked the beginning of the Age of Darkness. Since then, the Valley of Silence slowly became known as the Valley of Skulls, holding millions of buried corpses—silent witnesses to ambition and bloodshed. After decades of neglect, today, the Valley of Skulls once again became the stage for a great battle. Under a fiery twilight sky, an orange-red glow enveloped the mountaintops and barren trees. A middle-aged man stood firm. His hair, which should have been entirely gray, was only partially whitened among strands of black, reflecting his true age of 101 years, despite his appearance being only in his 50s. The man was Ba Bel, bearing the title of Demon Emperor, standing alongside his only trusted disciple, Zhou
CHAPTER 2: THE DEMON EMPEROR'S FATE
It all happened so fast. Screams erupted, followed by the sound of crushing bones. Three White Stream Emperors and ten leaders of both Black and White Stream sects were instantly killed by Ba Bel's single assault. Blood stained the desolate valley floor. However, Ba Bel himself was not spared from retaliation. He was hit by several sword energy slashes from the Emperors clashing with him, and several inner energy strikes landed squarely on his body.Ba Bel's condition was critical. There was a wide, gaping wound on his waist, and a deep imprint on his back. The five remaining Emperors, witnessing their comrades die instantly, did not remain passive. Fear mixed with rage in their eyes. They, along with dozens of surviving Black and White Stream Sect leaders, simultaneously charged at Ba Bel, forming a tight and deadly formation. Faced with so many enemies attacking him, Ba Bel showed no fear. In fact, he fought with a wide, ironic, and bloodthirsty smile, even as his body became covere
CHAPTER 3: A SECOND CHANCE
Ba Bel felt the final sting in his back, warm blood gushing from the treacherous stab. Darkness began to creep at the edges of his vision, engulfing the desolate Skull Valley. "Ah, so this is what death feels like?" he whispered to himself, a barely audible final thought.Excruciating pain pierced every nerve, yet, strangely, it slowly faded along with his consciousness. He surrendered."Mother, Father, Master... I'm coming home!" He murmured softly, trying to suppress the roar that threatened to escape his constricted throat. "At least I succeeded in avenging my sect. There are no regrets left."A voice argued in the corner of his mind, a familiar voice, his own. *Are there truly no regrets? Who are you trying to deceive this time, Ba Bel?*A series of scenes flashed through his mind, like a quickly unfolding film reel. Thousands of battles, dozens of intrigues, a century of power and solitude. Then, a glimpse of a woman's face, so beautiful, yet he couldn't recall her name. A bitter
CHAPTER 4 : THE GOLDEN PAGODA INN
Three days had passed since Ba Bel officially became Wong An's disciple. They had left the forest, and Wong An was taking Ba Bel back to the Sect, but their journey back was quite long.Wong An, who had previously felt anxious and worried because Ba Bel seemed far more mature than children his age, slowly began to change his perspective. Not only was Ba Bel a good and obedient disciple, but he also deeply respected Wong An as his Master and was exceptionally devoted, leading Wong An to now regard him as a talented child.“The martial arts world is a cruel place, but as long as you train diligently, you will at least be able to survive,” Wong An explained to Ba Bel.During their journey, Wong An didn't say much to Ba Bel about the Sect they were heading to; he only gave Ba Bel an overview of the martial arts world.Ba Bel felt a bit awkward because Wong An’s demeanor had changed from his previous life to this one. In his previous life, Ba Bel was a five-year-old child who had experienc
CHAPTER 5 : LING TONG
The Golden Pagoda Inn was quite modest, a two-story building offering twenty rooms for rent. Wong An reserved a room on the second floor and ordered several dishes to be eaten in their quarters.“Bel’er, you’re still growing, eat plenty,” Wong An said, serving some vegetables and fish and giving them to Ba Bel.For the past few days, Wong An had only been able to give Ba Bel dried bread, so this time, he instructed Ba Bel to enjoy the savory dishes.“Thank you, Master,” Ba Bel respectfully acknowledged Wong An when the vegetables and fish were given to him.Wong An marveled at Ba Bel's ability to use chopsticks at the age of five. Usually, only children from noble families were proficient with chopsticks at Ba Bel’s age. Neither spoke a word during the meal, as it was one of the etiquettes Wong An had taught Ba Bel: never to speak while eating.Every nightfall, Wong An would begin to cough lightly. Ba Bel watched Wong An with concern, but his Master claimed he was fine, even though Ba
CHAPTER 6 : THE BLACK CENTIPEDE GENERALS
"You've come all this way; there's no need to think about going back!" Ling Tong shouted loudly.Ling Tong drew his sword and gazed at the armed group before him. The people who had previously exuded murderous intent were now trembling with fear, realizing they were no match for Ling Tong, even if they had the numerical advantage. The members of the Black Centipede organization cursed Ba Bel's actions in their hearts. As far as they knew, Ling Tong was traveling with a baby, which would surely make it difficult for him to fight a large number of enemies. It was unexpected that someone would be willing to help Ling Tong look after the infant."Snatch the baby from that child; that baby is Ling Tong's weakness," one man whispered to another."Don't think I'll let you do that." Ling Tong, possessing keen hearing, overheard the whisper. Without hesitation, Ling Tong charged forward, attacking with his sword.Ba Bel watched the battle from a safe distance, trying to comfort the baby he hel
CHAPTER 7 : ZHU RONG
“Twin Crane Dance”As Wong An evaded his opponent's spear attack, he immediately retaliated with two incredibly swift thrusts. The attacks succeeded in injuring his opponent, though not fatally.Ba Bel furrowed his brow, observing Wong An's concentration was somewhat divided, as Wong An was still coughing even while fighting his opponent. If Wong An had been fighting during the day, this battle might already be over with Wong An emerging victorious, given that his opponent underestimated him considerably and revealed several weaknesses.Ba Bel's attention then shifted to Ling Tong; the red-haired man's battle with two high-level martial artists was demolishing parts of the Golden Pagoda Inn.“Ling Tong is either still concealing his full strength, or his physical condition prevents him from using his complete abilities,” Ba Bel thought, observing the fight. Witnessing Ling Tong's combat prowess made him realize that Ling Tong possessed greater skill than his own master.“First Brother
CHAPTER 8 : A Gift from Ling Tong
Wong An, who was drinking wine, nearly spat it out when he heard Ling Tong's words."Senior Ling...this..."Wong An was speechless. He was certainly happy that Ling Tong thought highly of Ba Bel and wanted to betroth him to his granddaughter, but Wong An felt everything was happening too quickly.Although Wong An was Ba Bel's master, they had only known each other for a few days, and he hadn't yet imparted any martial arts knowledge to Ba Bel. Wong An felt it wasn't appropriate for him to arrange Ba Bel's betrothal."Hmm! Do you think my granddaughter isn't good enough for Bel'er?" Ling Tong's expression shifted slightly; it was clear he deeply cherished his granddaughter and was very sensitive about anything concerning Zhu Rong."Oh, it's not like that, Senior Ling." Wong An could only scratch his cheek, finding it difficult to explain the situation.Ba Bel felt it was unfair for his master to face such a situation alone. "Uncle Ling, it's not that little sister isn't good enough; pe
CHAPTER 9: History of the Earth and Sky Sword Sect
After the Master and Disciple left the Golden Pagoda Inn and walked back to the Earth and Sky Sword Sect, they encountered no significant obstacles. Only attacks from wild beasts and attempted robberies, all of which Wong An was able to overcome. After a three-day journey, Wong An and Ba Bel finally arrived at a valley formerly known as the Valley of Solitude. They saw a Black and White Gate inscribed with 'Earth and Sky Sword Sect'.“Bel’er, look,” Wong An said, pointing towards the Earth and Sky Sword Sect Gate. “That is what you will someday call home. The place you return to after an adventure or a mission.”Although named the Earth and Sky Sword Sect, life within it was like a bustling city with a myriad of activities. Throughout their journey, Wong An recounted the history of the Earth and Sky Sword Sect to Ba Bel for three days and three nights, before the Master and Disciple finally reached the Sect Gate.Wong An explained that the Earth and Sky Sword Sect itself was said to h
CHAPTER 10 : The Curse of Wong An
Ba Bel, who had known the story since his first life, harbored a great question in his heart. Why had a sect founded by a magnificent Swordsman like the Ancestor Founder fallen so far, becoming only a mid-tier sect, the Earth and Sky Sword Sect? The Earth and Sky Sword Sect didn't even have a single Swordsman who had reached the Saint Swordsman Realm. Ba Bel himself had been able to break through the Saint Swordsman Realm and reach the Emperor Realm after studying the Tome of Nine Demonic Transformations. Furthermore, the Earth and Sky Sword Sect had been utterly destroyed and perished at the dawn of the Age of Darkness. That question persistently bothered and haunted Ba Bel's mind to this day. Ba Bel's reverie was interrupted when he heard numerous shouts from the girls of the Earth and Sky Sword Sect. The girls gathered in front of the Sect Gate tried to attract Wong An's attention in various ways.“Senior Wong!”“Ah, Junior Wong!”As Wong An and Ba Bel approached the entrance of th
