chapter 41: Brutal training
“For sure I will train. But in case you've forgotten… let me remind you that your training was going to be brutal” Kenshi’s eyes twinkled with mischief though his tone remained deadly serious. “You wanted to be strong right? Then you had to go through the ancient methods of strengthening the body through external stimuli. The techniques of the Blazing Wing Sect took a heavy toll on your body. If you wished to use them consistently on the battlefield without tearing yourself apart… You had to condition your body until it became capable of containing and channelling the techniques I would be teaching you” He leaned forward slightly. “Were you ready?” Lucian straightened his back determination burning in his eyes. “Yes, Master. But… what exactly did you mean by external stimulus?” Kenshi chuckled darkly. “It meant… You got beaten up” Lucian blinked shocked. “Huh? Wasn't that a bit too extreme?” “I meant every word when I said my methods were unconventional” Kenshi replied sh
chapter 42: 5th star knight
Time raced past like a swift current, carrying precious moments away before one could even grasp them. The scorching heat of summer had long since faded, gradually replaced by the crisp, cool breeze of autumn. The lush green canopy that once clothed the trees had slowly shifted into brilliant shades of gold and amber, the dry leaves drifting down with the wind to mark the passing of another season. Inside his room sitting cross‑legged on a thick cushion nearby was Lucian. His eyes were tightly shut, and his hands rested in a precise formation, locked into the specific gesture required for high‑level cultivation. The intensive training and life‑or‑death battles of the past few months had brought about a striking transformation in the young man. A stoic, unshakeable calm had settled over his delicate features. His lips were usually pressed together in a firm line, and his eyes, even when closed, seemed to hold a sharp, piercing edge. He was changing at a terrifying pace. And whe
chapter 43: new skill
“8 Ripple Burst!” A loud roar echoed throughout the dense forest, piercing through the quiet atmosphere. Within the trees, a shadow was moving at incredible speeds. It leaped from branch to branch, twisting and turning with a flexibility that seemed impossible for a human body. The area was covered in thick bushes and sharp thorns, but none of them managed to even scratch or slow down the figure moving through them. It was as if the obstacles didn’t even exist. In the next instant, the shadow came to a sudden halt right in front of a large tree, roughly half a meter wide. Leaning his body to the side, he thrust his elbow out with immense force. BOOM! A loud explosion rang out as splinters of wood flew in every direction. At the point of impact, spiderweb-like cracks appeared and rapidly spread across the entire trunk, covering it in just a split second. Crr… Crack… The tree let out a groaning sound before a massive hole caved in exactly where the elbow had hit. A moment later,
Chapter 44: Battle by a riverbank
Inside the bright and spacious VR Arcade the noise level was at its peak. Students gathered in groups their eyes glued to the large central screens displaying the ongoing matches.Seated inside a VR pod was Lucian. After training for so long he decided to blow off some steam. What else could he do except gaming?[MATCHMAKING ...][GENERATING ENVIRONMENT...]When Lucian opened his eyes again the sterile white room was gone. He stood now on a wide open bank of a rushing river. The ground beneath his feet was damp soft and muddy making it difficult to keep a stable footing. Beside him the river flowed rapidly its waters churning and splashing against the rocks. The air was humid and heavy with mist.[ARENA: RIVERBANK][OPPONENT FOUND: Kane got the waves]Not far away on the opposite side of the open ground a figure slowly materialised. He was draped in flowing blue robes that reached his ankles and he held a long crystalline staff in his hand. A soft shimmering blue light constantly circ
chapter 45: bloody duel
Lucian's next match-up was against a blood mage. The Blood Mage dropped into a low tiger martial arts stance. His feet were planted wide, knees bent, and his hands were raised, fingers curled like claws. Unlike typical mages who relied solely on spells and kept their distance, Blood Mages were a terrifying breed of cultivator. By compressing, refining, and purifying their own blood essence within their bodies, they underwent a physical transformation. This granted them explosive strength, speed, and durability that far surpassed standard mages, and in many cases, even rivalled heavy knights and warriors of the same realm. They were hybrid fighters, masters of both magic and close-quarters combat. [BATTLE START!] The instant the signal echoed, the Blood Mage moved. His speed was explosive, bursting forward in a red blur that crossed the distance in the blink of an eye. Right before reaching Lucian, he pushed off the ground with tremendous force and leapt high into the air, hovering
chapter 46: Beyond my weight class
After securing victory over the blood mage, Lucian wasn't yet satisfied. Instead, he hungered for stronger opponents and requested another match. However, as the system began searching for the next opponent a strange feeling crept into Lucian’s heart. It was a sensation he had not felt in a long time, adrenaline excitement. “I feel like… punching way above my weight class here” Lucian thought to himself frowning slightly as he analysed his own strength. “I had been dominating every match so easily. It feels kinda … easy. I need a new challenge?” Just as that thought crossed his mind the system chimed loudly. [MATCH FOUND.] [WARNING: OPPONENT RANK EXCEEDS SELECTED PARAMETERS. OPPONENT POWER LEVEL: 7-STAR PEAK — 8-STAR.] [LOADING COMPLETE...] Whoosh! The scenery changed once again. Standing opposite Lucian was a figure that towered nearly two metres tall. He was clad from head to toe in gleaming polished Hero Armour. Every piece was thick heavy and designed for maximum protec
chapter 47: beyond my weight II
The Knight stood towering over the field, his massive frame encased in impenetrable armour that radiated pure dominance. “I will crush you completely beneath my hammer!” he bellowed, his voice deep, rough, and echoing like grinding boulders. “You are nothing but an insect crawling beneath my boots! DIE!” Obviously he was roleplaying some players would do this to keep the game interesting but this one seemed to take it too far.Lucian narrowed his eyes, a sharp glint of defiance shining within them. He clenched his fists tight, feeling his aura surge violently through his veins before condensing heavily around his hands.“We’ll see about that!” Lucian roared back. “I’ll smash that ugly face you’re hiding behind that scrap metal helmet… right in with my bare fists!”“INSOLENT MORTAL!” The Knight snarled. “I will turn you into paste!”In the next heartbeat, both fighters exploded toward each other. The ground trembled under the sheer weight of their colliding killing intent. The Knight
Chapter 48: beyond my weight class III
BANG! The massive hammer slammed hard into the ground right where Lucian had stood a split second before, shattering stone and sending cracks spreading outward. But he was already gone. His legs coiled tight as springs and his body launched straight upward in a sharp high jump, clearing the heavy strike completely. He did not drift away or land back. Mid-air, he twisted his body, eyes locked straight onto the armoured figure below. It was the Knight clad in full hero armour with a Spartan-style helmet smeared with old blood and wielding that terrifying warhammer. Before the Knight could lift his weapon or turn to track him, Lucian snapped his legs forward. He came diving right back down, both feet braced together while a golden aura wrapped tightly around his legs to make them heavy and hard as iron. WHOOSH THUD! He landed both feet hard and square onto the Knight’s chest plate, driving all his weight and momentum straight into the centrentre of that heavy armour. The impact rang
chapter 49:Noodles to ketch up
Stepping outside of the VR arcade into the cool evening air, Lucian let out a long breath. His body was still buzzing with adrenaline from the battle against the Knight, but his mind was already moving forward. He had been gone from his friends for too long. He walked straight toward the city centre, turning the familiar corner until he saw the glowing red sign: Dragon Nook. He pushed open the wooden door. The warm smell of broth and spices hit him immediately. Inside, near the back, his friends were already sitting at their usual round table. Harry, Grace, and Latisha. As the bell chimed, all three looked up. “Look who finally showed up,” Harry said, grinning and waving him over. “Took you long enough.” Lucian slid into the empty seat across from them, smiling genuinely for the first time in months. “Sorry about that,” Lucian said. “It’s good to see you guys again. How have you all been doing these past two months?” “Same old, same old,” Harry shrugged, leaning back. “But hones
chapter 50: Test announcement
The sun rose bright and clear the next morning, shining down over the vast grounds of Astrae Academy. By 8:00 AM, almost every single student from the First‑Year classes was gathered inside the massive Central Hall. The atmosphere was buzzing with noise, excitement, and a hint of nervousness. Everyone knew something big was coming. Rumours had been spreading since yesterday about a major practical mission. At the front of the hall, standing on a raised platform, was Instructor Vian. She looked out over the crowd with a sharp, serious expression, her voice loud and booming, echoing off the stone walls. “LISTEN UP, EVERYONE!” Vian shouted, making sure even the students at the very back could hear clearly. “I have called you all here today to make an official announcement regarding your practical training. Up until now, you have learned theory, trained with mana and aura, and fought in controlled sparring matches. But that is all just preparation. From now on, you will be doing th
