Chapter 41: I'll pay for everything
Chapter 41“Me?" Charlie asked, glancing up. He shook his head slightly. “I don't do any work for now. I’m a student." "Oh wow,” her face lit up with curiosity. "Of which school?”"Maple Town University.”June gasped slightly. Like, how could a university undergraduate have so much to spend on extravagant meals when he should be thinking of "You're a student and you come to a place like this to eat?” She replied, letting a faint smile tug at her lips.Charlie smiled faintly, shrugging with an unreadable expression. He was about to reply when Duke interjected, answering, almost sounding rude. “So because we are students, we are not permitted to dine here?” Charlie looked at him, and his lips parted with a faint smile. He knew why he was doing all of that. June seemed to show interest in Charlie, so Duke was just trying to get rid of everything, aware of what Charlie had gone through in Megan's hands and was later dumped. He didn't want that for his friend again. But June quickly sh
Chapter 42: Duke annoys Charlie
Chapter 42 Duke froze mid-step. He reluctantly turned, his eyes filled with disbelief as he stared at June. His lips quivered. “I didn't ask you to pay my bills. I can handle—” However, before he could complete his sentence, the waitress had swiftly processed the payment and given it to June. She took it and simply entered her four-digit PIN. The payment went through. Debited, June took her card and put it back in her bag. “You don't have to panic, I'm capable of footing my bills,” she faced Duke and said with a soft but faint smile after the waitress left. Duke immediately felt a pang of regret. He looked at her with disbelief, biting his lips slightly. Charlie, who had been watching, couldn't help but feel disappointed and embarrassed at Duke for his actions. He knew the reason why he was acting that way; however, he felt this wa

He exhaled, staying composed, but his chest tightened. “J—just come with me to my office,” he ordered.David breathed out, slightly relieved. A flicker of hope passed through his eyes right after he heard Donald's response. At least, things will get better now. He mumbled. In the office, only Donald and David were seen. The butler was outside, right behind the door, waiting.“So, what do you say you want?" Donald, seated across from David in his office, asked, his elbow resting on the polished table, piled up with documents.David cleared his throat, adjusted his suit as he leaned forward to reply. “It’s about the sudden pull out, Mr. Donald,” he started, his voice tense.“What about it?" Donald interjected nonchalantly, reachi
Chapter 44: David Points Pete a Gun
Chapter 44The butler, already convinced within himself that something wasn't right, looked up at the bodyguard. Although uneasiness settled in his chest, he managed to stay composed. “What did you see?" He asked. The bodyguard nodded vigorously, “I saw some—something,” he replied, his voice trembling with certainty. "I saw him holding a small black object. I—I think it's a g….gun. Pistol.”The butler's breath hitched immediately. He didn't have to argue because everything had been obvious from the start. Right from the way Mr. David, his boss, asked him about Pete with a stern face. But why would he want to kill his only son? A doubt slightly crept into his mind.He raised his eyebrows, glancing at the bodyguard with a questioning look. “Are you sure about this?" The latter nodded. "Yes. I'm very sure about what I saw." Seeing the unshakeable expression of the bodyguard, the butler didn't have

He inquired, a cold smirk trying to escape his lips. “Join him. Get on your knees! And begin to explain." The two friends looked

But just then, David's personal bodyguard rushed forward and leaned in, pressing his head on David's fallen body. His jaw tightened as he mumbled. “He's dead.” His lips quivered as he confirmed, tears dropping from his eyes. He added, gritting his teeth as he fiercely looked up at Pete, “You killed him!" Wake up!" She sobbed uncontrollably, sniffling heavily. The butler stood there completely speechless. Chapter 48: Who's Charlie to you?
Chapter 48Hearing the voice, Charlie frowned slightly at the question. Didn't she save his number? He sat up straighter on his bed, his voice nervous as he replied. “Hey, June. It's Charlie. We both met at the restaurant today, remember?” He reluctantly added. "You didn't save my contact?”There was a brief pause from the other end. "Hello June, are you still there?” Charlie asked."I'm sorry, but this isn't June. It is the mum. What do you want?”Charlie shifted immediately on the bed, his heart almost skipping. He hadn't noticed it wasn't June. She and her mother shared a similar voice. He quickly checked the time. Then she stepped forward, reluctantly placing her hand on June's shoulder before adding, "J—June, I think Charlie's a good person. W—Why don't you give him a chance?” June narrowed her eyes at her mother, blinking in perplexity and disbelief. “What are you talking about, Mum? You don't even know him just yet and you're concluding he's a good person?” She felt a pang of disappointment. "Besides, we're just getting to know each other, so how could you possibly say I should give him a chance?”June knew her single life had been a burden to her parents, especially her mother. She wanted her to be in a
Chapter 50: A Gift
Chapter 50“This house belongs to my master, Mr. David Moore, and I'm in charge of everything here," the butler replied."Late Mr. David Moore,” the man corrected, nodding his head. Then he adjusted his suit before continuing. "For your notice, since you look clueless, I'm Mr. Jones Wei’s representative, who lent your boss a huge amount of money, which he promised to repay. But quite unfortunately, he couldn't before his son took his life. And according to the agreement, everything belonging to him automatically turns ours. That means, we're the legal owner of everything he had.” The butler gulped, speechless. David Moore had made mention of that before his death, but he didn't expect these people to be this heartless to come immediately after the property without prior notice.Without saying another word, he turned to the other man who had come with him, smirking widely. “Show him the papers. Let him see the evidence.”The man dres
