Chapter 1
It was 11:00 AM that morning at Maple City University, and the school was on break after finishing two lectures. A young, handsome man in his mid-twenties, dressed in a shabby, worn-out uniform, emerged from the class, walking through the hallway. The cuffs of his clothes were black, practically noticeable like they hadn't been washed for ages. Despite Charlie Jordan's handsome appearance, the passing students avoided him like a plague, staring at him with disdain. Some spitting out, faces twisted with outer frowns. “That's him. The popular campus trash picker I mentioned earlier. He's probably going to look for bottles to pick so he can sell them and have some money for himself,” one female student said with a cold tone, telling her friend. “Oh, yuck! He looks like it. But how could one feed himself with that?” the latter asked, slightly concerned. “Heard he's working part-time in a bar too.” The passing students were muttering among themselves, their voices filled with disgust, and their faces twitched with disdain. Charlie heard them and he bowed his head in shame, his eyes on the ground as if searching for something as he was heading towards the gate. Ring….ring. An old Android phone started to ring. Charlie paused and pulled out his old, cracked phone from his pocket. He glanced at the strange number and frowned, but he hesitantly picked it up. “Hello?” “Sorry, am I speaking with Young Master Charlie Jordan?” A voice asked calmly with respect from the other line. Charlie furrowed his brows, puzzled. He nodded, “I'm Charlie Jordan, not Young Master,” he replied softly. The man took a deep breath, relieved. “Oh, thank God, it's the right number. Young Master Charlie, if you are less busy, please, make your way to Pinnacle Group. You've got an inheritance to inherit. It just needs your signature put down, that's all.” Charlie looked down at the number and let out a cold chuckle. “Firstly you addressed me as Young Master and now? You're telling me I've got an inheritance to claim,” he said, his face turning into a frown. “Buddy, I'm an orphan. I've been one for decades so which inheritance are you talking about?” “Young Master Charlie, just come to…..” Before the man could complete his sentence, Charlie abruptly ended the call and let out an exasperated sigh while shoving his phone back into his pocket. “These scammers are literally becoming idle nowadays. Instead of learning a skill or getting their hands to work, they sit down looking for whom to scam.” He muttered to himself, sighing again. “He thinks I've got some bucks in my account.” Ring, ring! His phone started to ring for the second time, but Charlie ended it without glancing at it. Letting out the third sigh, Charlie headed toward the gate, and as he saw an empty bottle, a small smile crossed his lips, and he hastened his steps. He knew better than to walk fast, because if he didn't, the man who usually came around to pick up recyclable items might get to it before him. And secondly, it was something he used to sustain himself by earning daily while waiting to get paid at the hotel where he works as a part-time worker. Crunch! Charlie had crouched to pick up the bottle of water when a red high heel stepped on it. Charlie was momentarily taken aback. His eyes followed the figure's slender leg, and his eyes swung wide open. “M—Megan…..you! What are you doing here?”Latest Chapter

Chapter 49June sighed. “He called? That's the guy I told you about—the guy who saved me from harassment today.” She extended her hand, taking the phone from her mother. As she glanced down at the screen, she nodded in confirmation. " Yeah, he's the one. Guess, he called to confirm if I'm back home safely.”“Oh, I didn't know that or I should have thanked him properly," her mother replied. Then she stepped forward, reluctantly placing her hand on June's shoulder before adding, "J—June, I think Charlie's a good person. W—Why don't you give him a chance?” June narrowed her eyes at her mother, blinking in perplexity and disbelief. “What are you talking about, Mum? You don't even know him just yet and you're concluding he's a good person?” She felt a pang of disappointment. "Besides, we're just getting to know each other, so how could you possibly say I should give him a chance?”June knew her single life had been a burden to her parents, especially her mother. She wanted her to be in a
Chapter 48: Who's Charlie to you?
Chapter 48Hearing the voice, Charlie frowned slightly at the question. Didn't she save his number? He sat up straighter on his bed, his voice nervous as he replied. “Hey, June. It's Charlie. We both met at the restaurant today, remember?” He reluctantly added. "You didn't save my contact?”There was a brief pause from the other end. "Hello June, are you still there?” Charlie asked."I'm sorry, but this isn't June. It is the mum. What do you want?”Charlie shifted immediately on the bed, his heart almost skipping. He hadn't noticed it wasn't June. She and her mother shared a similar voice. He quickly checked the time. It was past 9 in the evening. “Um…um….just wanted to know if she's gone home safely that's all,” Charlie stammered, his voice breaking slightly under the tension built in his mind. “But I guess she's home now and safe so I'll hang up now.”His finger quickly moved to the end button, about t

But just then, David's personal bodyguard rushed forward and leaned in, pressing his head on David's fallen body. His jaw tightened as he mumbled. “He's dead.” His lips quivered as he confirmed, tears dropping from his eyes. He added, gritting his teeth as he fiercely looked up at Pete, “You killed him!" At that moment, Helen, who had stood frozen in daze, ran toward the body with vibrating legs. She leaned in and started yanking the body. "W—wake up, David. Please, wake up! You can't die like this! Wake up!" She sobbed uncontrollably, sniffling heavily. The butler stood there completely speechless. His hand fidgeted at the edge of his garment. But still there, Pete's other friend, who was mourning over his friend whom David had shot dead, reluctantly wiped his teary eyes roughly, satisfaction clear in his eyes. “T—that serves better,” he murmured, nodding h

He let out a bitter cry as he shook him, attempting to wake him up. "Get up, man, please. You can't die." He continued to cry, tears crowded his eyes and began to stream down his cheek, soaking his cloth. “Your Dad killed him!" For a moment, Pete winked, completely stunned. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he clutched his chest. At that moment, he didn't know whether to cry or stay calm.

Although uneasiness settled in his chest, he managed to stay composed. “What did you see?" He asked. The bodyguard nodded vigorously, “I saw some—something,” he replied, his voice trembling with certainty. "I saw him holding a small black object. I—I think it's a g….gun. Pistol.”The butler's breath hitched immediately. He didn't have to argue because everything had been obvious from the start. A doubt slightly crept into his mind.He raised his eyebrows, glancing at the bodyguard with a questioning look. “Are you sure about this?" The latter nodded. "Yes. I'm very sure about what I saw."
