CHAPTER 1
RYAN The machine beeped gently, indicating she was alive, breathing and well. I clutched onto her little hands, whispering little prayers while she lay there, almost lifeless, with several tubes connected to her nose and chest. One minute she was sitting in front of her cold birthday candles, and the next she was on the floor, shaking in pain, with blood pouring from her lips."Mu.." I jerked my head up, staring at her as she tried to utter a word."Sweetheart, I'm here.""Mu..mum.. mummy.. mummy." She repeated, batting her eyes.I stiffened, watching her struggle to utter the same words, a cry for her mum. "Sweetheart, mummy is coming," I replied, patting her hair gently, yet her pleas continued. "I will call her.". Sliding out my phone, I dialled her number."Please pick up." I muttered, underneath my heavy breathing, my eyes ping ponged from the phone to my little angel, who was all curled up in the hospital bed, eyes stained with tears and hope. The call ended.I continued, call
CHAPTER 2
"Where is Jasmine Zane?!!." Racheal screamed at the receptionist. "Where is my daughter?!!.”"Jasmine..the post op patient?" She rambled. "Room 206, down the....." She spun out before the nurse could finish, rushing towards the room. "Room 206." She flung the door open, expecting to see a crowd of doctors running around, but she saw none. Jasmine was sleeping peacefully while a nurse checked her drip.Wasn't she dying??. Did he lie??.She scoffed.Typical Ryan. She made her way in, ignoring the nurse's gaze."Who are you??""Her mother," she answered as she saw something flicker in her eyes. Hatred?. Disgust??.She ignored. "I heard she was in danger.""She has been stabilised."So Ryan didn't lie to get her here? She shoved the thought aside, gently sitting down beside the sleeping Jasmine, watching her chest rise and fall. "My baby," Rachael whispered and tucked her little black hair to one side. She looked okay and peaceful, unlike how Ryan screamed it to be. It must have been
CHAPTER 3
RYANI threw quick glance at her, while slicing the apple. The doctor requested I feed her fruit when she wakes up. She was out of danger, plus the tubes were removed with only the oxygen mask. She was tucked comfortably against her pillow, her black hair packed into a loose bun, she was clothed in a pink hospital gown that was bigger than her, it practically swallowed her, her blue eyes peered around while she meddled with her fingers."Daddy." She spoke, her voice sounded a little weird through the mask, but I dared not to say. She looked better than yesterday. "I found this necklace." She pulled out her oxygen mask. "Did mummy come?? Is it my birthday gift?" She squealed happily. "Yes." I lied. It was the only way to keep her healthy and happy. Plus I couldn't tell her the whole truth, I couldn't let her see her mother as a bad person or begin to hate her"Really??. Mummy came?" Her eyes widened in excitement."Yes, she did.""But I didn't see her.""Well.. she came and she stayed
CHAPTER 4
Her eyes fluttered severally, gazing at the kids who laughed and talked happily. Their voice, gaze and action held something she couldn't understand. Was this what true happiness felt like??.Jasmine thinned her lips, meddling with the necklace she won.A symbol that kept her little hope up. Her mom loves her.She believed. She enjoyed it outside. Outside was beautiful, outside meant she would believe for a while that she was like them.Free and happy. She directed her gaze to the lounge watching the nurse wander around, Her finger grazed through the solid texture of the necklace, giving her the warmth she craved from her mother. At least she remembered her.Swiftly, a hand grabbed the necklace, yanking it off her neck. She whined in pain but quickly recovered, her gaze turned to the person who held her necklace.Leo?She knew the little bundle of mischief well, an over-pampered one who derived pleasure from taunting her at school, seemed to have found her even at the hospital."Gi
CHAPTER 5
Anger scorched through her veins as Rachael stared at her, her little eyes bored at Rachael, filled with hurt, shock and something she couldn't decrypt. Not like she cared."Apologise!!! Now." She barked."Mum..." "Don't you dare mummy me!!. Apologise, Jasmine."Marco stared, disbelief coloured his face just like the other. He gulped down wondering what exactly she heard. If she did overhear everything he said, then he wasn't spared either."Rachael." He called out, trying to control her anger. He watched the little child curled up on the ground, shaking with tears flooding down her cheeks. A hint of worry could be seen on his face."Rachael, she is just a child. Children say things they don't mean. You don't have to be angered." He gripped her hands inching close to her. "This isn't a big deal, we....""You hear that??." She hissed, glaring at Ryan, who held Jasmine in his arms, still shocked by her actions. "Even after everything that happened he is still defending her. Only if you
CHAPTER 6
RYAN I stalked into the room, laying her gently on the bed as she kept sobbing."Sweetheart, Daddy is fine," I whispered, wiping her tears, and more poured out."I'm so sorry, Daddy, I...I..I didn't mean to cause trouble." She stuttered, choking on her teary voice. "I'm sorry, it's my fault, mummy hit you because of you. I..I... shouldn't have said those things. It's all my fault, I...I am a bad child. A very bad child." My heart twisted at her words. I pulled her into my arms, gently patting her hair. "You are not a bad child at all. You, my little angel, and the sweetest girl in the whole world. Mummy and I just had a little misunderstanding, it's not your fault. In fact, I should be the one at fault. I shouldn't have let you witness such an ugly scene especially when it was between your parents. I'm sorry, sweetheart. Daddy is very sorry." She stared, eyes widened while I spoke. Slowly she reached for my wound, pressing her tiny finger against the scar.I flinched."Sorry, Daddy.
CHAPTER 7
RYANTime slowed at her words."She needs you." This was the only words my brain registered fully before I sped out, not caring about what Aiden would say or feel. Heck!!! My mind went pitched blank, all I knew was my little angel, all I wanted was her, to be with her.I ran through the streets, ignoring the cars which blasted their horns at me; some screamed, asking if I was mad.I was. I dashed into the hospital, running frantically up the stairs and dashing through the halls till I reached the room. I burst in, and my gaze met an empty ward."Sir." I turned staring at the same nurse."Where is my daughter?""She..." tears rolled down her face.My heartbeat slowed down. "Where is she??. Answer!!.""She is in the coma ward."~~~~The world around me stilled as I stared at her, my little angel. She looked barely alive and was encased in a cold medical pod. Her breathing was so faint it was almost inaudible. I stroked the icy machine that encased her fragile body.My heart was ripped
CHAPTER 8
~Rachael blinked several times, staring at her phone, unable to believe what she heard. Her brain suddenly went bad blank, all she could hear was his words.A divorce??. He actually asked for a divorce. She gripped her phone tightly, and panic kicked in. "Was he serious or....?" She muttered to herself."Did he agree? Will he come and give our Leo the transfusion?" Marco asked, gently."Huh??. I .." "He didn't, I just knew it " Panic turned into fury."That doesn't matter, I would drag him here myself if I have to, to make him donate blood to Leo. He will donate it and that is that."Marco sighed heavily, faking a sad and pitiful expression. "If Ryan doesn't want to then just forget it, we can't force him to do anything he doesn't want to do. Plus I understand his decision. After all, not many people would willingly give blood to a stranger’s child, especially since Ryan still had his daughter to care for." Rachael nodded, recalling the way Jasmin spoke earlier.Ill-mannered. She
CHAPTER 9
The room was dim, eerie, dulled with the tension ticked air. Marco crept closer, his shadow slid into his room before he emerged, staring at the little child who was enclosed in a medical pod with several tubes and wires connected to them, she lay there looking almost lifeless, drained of life. His gaze trailed down to Ryan, who looked half dead, dark hair tousled, face pale, and eyes devoid of life, sitting at the side with his gaze pinned to his daughter.Marco stepped closer, masking his smug with a sad look. He slides into the seat beside Ryan."It's really sad." He began expecting a reaction from Ryan yet none came. He continued. "I can't imagine the pain your daughter must be going through. I really feel sorry for her and you, too. Being her father must be heartbreaking to watch your child die. I understand your pain, I am a father too, but you have...."Ryan cut him off, his voice cold: “Cut the act. Wasn’t it you who stole the Serum?" Ryan snapped his gaze to him, his eyes dar
