Chapter 51: A narrow escape.
DamianMy eyes scanned the warehouse once again, desperately searching for anything that could be used as a distraction, a way to turn the tables. That's when I saw it, a metal pipe, rusty and discarded, resting on one of the walls. It was a long shot considering the distance, and I wasn’t even sure if it would be strong enough to cause some damage, but it was the only thing that caught my eye.Of course, Preston was no fool. His gaze followed mine, and his eyes narrowed. "Don't even think about it, Damian," he warned, his voice low. "You're not exactly in a position to be making any sudden moves."He took a step closer as he waved his gun in the air. "Remember, I'm the one with the gun. And one wrong move from you..."He didn't need to finish the sentence. I already knew what he was going to say. Mila's eyes were wide with fear, and I knew that Preston wouldn't hesitate to use her as leverage.I forced myself to relax, to look defeated. But my mind was racing, searching for a way out
Chapter 52
Damian“I’m tired…” Mila whispered, her voice trailing off as her head lost its balance and fell over my arm. The rage I felt a second ago now morphed into absolute fear. “Mila!” I yelled, jerking her vigorously but she wouldn’t budge. “Get the car!” I ordered and Victor stormed out immediately. “Mila!” I called again, but she didn’t respond. Her hands dropped lazily on both sides and fear gripped me. We got into the car and drove straight to the general hospital. I was familiar with the doctor on duty so Mila was immediately wheeled in on a stretcher. “Please don’t let anything happen to her, and don’t let anyone near her until I return. Tell her I’ll be back as soon as I can.” I growled as I signed the necessary paperwork and left with Victor. A few of my men stayed back, others hung around the vicinity just in case, while Victor and I went in search of Serena. “You’re bleeding sir..” Victor pointed out as I sat in the car. I didn’t even realize a bullet had grazed my shoulder.
Chapter 53: Hope
Damian“Who are you? I don’t have time for games.” I asked roughly. I clearly didn’t have time to sit at tables and play pretend. "It's Eliana," the caller replied, her voice soft and hesitant. My grip on the phone tightened, and I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. Eliana, as in my sister?I didn't think the day would come when she'd call me, and certainly not with a voice that still sounded like she was still a scared little girl."Eliana?" I repeated, my voice firm, trying to keep my emotions in check.Xavier raised an eyebrow, sensing the tension in the room.“Are you okay?" I asked, my tone firm, trying to keep my distance. There was a pause, and for a moment, I wondered if she'd hung up.But then she spoke, her voice trembling. "Damian, I... I need your help." She replied.I took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm of emotions swirling inside me. "Eliana, listen to me," I said, my voice softer now. "Where do you want to meet? I'll come to you." I asked. There was anothe
Chapter 54: Plan A or B?
DamianMila's eyes looked up at me, filled with fear as she recalled all that happened that night. "While I was in the room that day waiting for you, Serena came in and told me that you wanted me to meet you at the back exit." She began. My brows furrowed; it was definitely Rostella in disguise. "Go on?" I muttered. She nodded, her voice trembling, and I hated that I was putting her through all that, but I needed clues on how to find Serena. "Yes, she said you ordered me to meet you there. I didn’t get suspicious because I knew Serena was to be trusted, so I agreed and followed her to the back exit. That's when two… two men grabbed me and covered my head with a sack."A cold rage began to build inside me as I thought of how she must have felt in that situation. Her eyes searched mine, looking for answers. "Damian, what happened?" She asked, reading my expression.I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself. "It wasn't Serena, Mila. It was Rostella, wearing a mask. She played us real
Chapter 55: A stitch in time
ElianaI watched Preston and Rostella from the balcony, the doctor cleaned her bloody thigh as she winced and hissed in pain. They both were unaware of my presence there and I was thankful for that. “I’ll kill the bastard myself if it’s the last thing I do!” Preston growled, pacing back and forth as he switched from one phone call to the other. I had already spoken with Damian and even though a part of me was scared to, a bigger part of me was grateful that I did. Ever since he kept insisting I was his sister, something in my head just couldn’t take him off of my mind. My heart stayed drawn to him and I couldn’t tell why. Rostella didn’t stop feeding me with all the horrible things he’s ever done, but all of that didn’t stop this urge to meet him and talk. Now seeing that Preston had kidnapped someone that seemed important to him, I knew this was my only chance to meet him. “Where did you keep Serena?” Rostella asked, amidst sobs and Preston pointed towards the locked door at th
Chapter 56: Tough Luck
Eliana I watched as Rostella stood up, her expression softening into a concerned smile. "You shouldn't think about him, Ana," she said, her voice gentle. "Don't let him get in your head, okay? You don't want to go back to those nightmares." She said.Nightmares that were probably my brain trying to remind me of my memories of him, if there were any.I forced a nod, playing along with her very obvious charade. As soon as she left the room, I let out a scoff, rolling my eyes. They really thought I was that naive, didn't they? That I wouldn't see through their manipulation?I really needed to see Damian one way or another to clear the air, and if that didn’t work, then I would have to find the perfect time for a long phone call.Rostella's words echoed in my mind, and I couldn't help but laugh. Nightmares? The only nightmares I'd been having were the ones they'd been feeding me, courtesy of those damn pills.I stood up, pacing around the room, my mind racing with thoughts of Damian and
Chapter 57: A thorn
Eliana I forced a smile as Rostella wrapped her arms around me, her apology muffled against my shoulder, sounding like she was forced. "I'm so sorry, Ana. This isn't how I actually am," she whispered, her voice filled with insincerity. Of course, she had to keep her silly act up.I patted her back, forced to play along. "It's okay, Ro. I understand. You were just stressed out." I replied. She pulled back, her smile plastered on her face like a mask. "I'll make it up to you, I promise. That maid is going to hear from me." She said firmly. I nodded, my eyes never leaving hers. "I'm fine, really; you don't have to do anything to her." I knew I wouldn’t forgive myself if the poor maid got fired just for being loyal to her master instead of siding with a stranger. She didn’t deserve that.Rostella blinked at me, and with a final pat on my arm, she turned and left the room. The moment the door closed behind her, I dropped the act, my gaze swinging to the maid standing quietly by the tabl
Chapter 58:
Eliana The next morning, I woke up at the crack of dawn with only one thing on my mind, find Serena before anyone wakes up.I crept out of my room, the soft creak of the door the only sound in the stillness of the morning. The house was really quiet and everyone still lost in their dreams. I knew had to be quick. As I made my way down the stairs, my heart pounding in my chest almost taking away my ability to hear, I heard a voice behind me. "Eliana? What are you doing up so early?"I froze, my hand tightly on the railing. Rostella stood at the foot of the stairs, her eyes narrowed in surprise. I thought fast."Oh, I... I was just going to get some fresh air," I said, trying to sound casual. "I couldn't get any sleep, so I thought a quick walk in the gardens might clear my head."Her gaze lingered on me, like she wasn't quite buying it. "At this hour? It's barely dawn, Eliana. And you're dressed... oddly. You would freeze if you went out at this time and in that outfit.” She said narr
Chapter 59: Saved by luck
Eliana“What are you doing?” I whispered, sweat pouring down my face. “Stop your many questions and just stay here.” She warned. “Unless you want your head hanging at the gate.” She wasn’t wrong, and I really had no other choice than to just sit there and wait. My head pounded, my heart raced. Just one misstep and I probably won’t be breathing anymore. As I sat on the floor, crouched at the corner of the room I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I quick pulled it out and Damian’s name flashed on the screen. I couldn’t respond to him at this time because he’d get worried and probably decide to come down here. If he does, Rostella and Preston will definitely be convinced that I’m in contact with him. So I ignored the call and slipped the phone back into my pocket. “Where’s Eliana?” Preston’s voice thundered and silence followed. My eyes shot open and I stared at the maid beside me. “Please..” I muttered but she didn’t look like she wanted to rat me out. “Go and make sure she’s in
Chapter 60: Revelations.
ElianaI shook my head and decided to stand my ground, looking as innocent as possible. "I barely spent two minutes in the gardens, Ro. It was freezing, and I was exhausted. So I returned, and I passed out as soon as I got back into my room; that's why I didn't hear anything." I explained. Her eyes narrowed, her gaze piercing deep into my soul. "I'm sure there's something fishy about you, Eliana. "You're hiding something, and I'm going to find out." She replied.I shook my head, trying to look confused. "I don't know what you're talking about, Ro."But her expression didn't change; instead, her voice became firm. "Have you been taking your meds?" She asked.I nodded immediately, trying to look compliant. "Yes, of course. I take them every day." I lied. Her gaze lingered on me for a moment, then she turned to leave. "Good. Don't make me have to ask again." She said whilst waving her finger in the air.As the door closed behind her, I let out a slow breath. That was close. Too close.
