Eliana

I shook my head and decided to stand my ground, looking as innocent as possible.

"I barely spent two minutes in the gardens, Ro. It was freezing, and I was exhausted. So I returned, and I passed out as soon as I got back into my room; that's why I didn't hear anything." I explained.

Her eyes narrowed, her gaze piercing deep into my soul.

"I'm sure there's something fishy about you, Eliana. "You're hiding something, and I'm going to find out." She replied.

I shook my head, trying to look confused. "I don't know what you're talking about, Ro."

But her expression didn't change; instead, her voice became firm. "Have you been taking your meds?" She asked.

I nodded immediately, trying to look compliant. "Yes, of course. I take them every day." I lied.

Her gaze lingered on me for a moment, then she turned to leave. "Good. Don't make me have to ask again." She said whilst waving her finger in the air.

As the door closed behind her, I let out a slow breath. That was close. Too close.

ElianaI peeled open my eyes, rubbing my fingers on them as I slowly adjusted to the brightness in the room. It wasn’t this bright when I walked in, and I certainly wasn’t laying in bed the last time I checked. My heart skipped as I immediately sat up on the bed, pulling the covers away from my body to make sure I didn’t stain the sheets again. “Thank goodness..” I sighed in relief, holding my chest. “But where’s Victor?” I asked nobody at all. The bed was empty, the last thing I remembered was slipping into the clothes he brought me after I had my bath. So how did I end up asleep and for how long was I out?I walked into the bathroom and washed my face in the sink, then slowly headed out of the room as I minded my steps to avoid making any noise. What explanations would I have if anyone saw me coming out of Victor’s room like this? I can’t tell anyone he helped me with my cramps.. why was I even there in the first place? As I strolled back to my room, I looked around to make sure

  • Chapter 105: Love, Preston.

Damian After staying up the whole night as the security well alongside Victor, I didn’t wake up until way past noon, and I wondered if Victor was able to get as much sleep as I did.He arrived really late that night and went straight to keeping guard. I’d never seen Victor be exhausted; even if he was, it never showed or reduced his ability to perform his duties.I owed him more than just his monthly wages.I turned around, and my eyes fell on Mila, who was folding a huge pile of laundry. She smiled at me as our eyes met, and I wondered how she could always look so beautiful.“What kept you up all night? Look how late you woke up.” She asked, her eyes fixed on the clothes.I'd made sure to not tell her or anyone that we were our own security for the meantime to avoid any unnecessary panic, so I slipped out of the room when she was fast asleep.“I guess walking around in the hospital was enough to make me tired.” I replied, sitting up in bed. I had to go find Victor and discuss furthe

  • Chapter 104: My Knight in Shining Sheets

ElianaThe next morning, I woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside my window, the early morning sunlight streaming in through the curtains. I stretched, reluctant to get up but then I felt a terrible cramp in my abdomen. Soon I realized my period had arrived, I’d totally forgotten about its existence. I quickly got out of bed, noticing the stain on my bedsheets. “Great, just what I needed to start my day.” I said, rolling my eyes in frustration. At least Pearl wasn’t around to witness such a heartbreaking sight first thing in the morning. She had decided she wanted to spend the night in the hospital, right next to her brother, and Damian was okay with the decision. That I was grateful for. I quickly stripped the bed, bundling up the sheets in a messy heap. I needed to find fresh ones as soon as possible and go bank to lying in bed unit I felt better. So I took off the stained clothes and slipped on a robe, not bothering with a bra or anything else, and headed out of the roo

  • Chapter 103: Man down.

DamianI watched Eliana return to the living room, her face flushed like she'd just run a marathon. I raised an eyebrow at her, wondering what was going on with her. She'd been acting weird since last night, and now this. I studied her expression, trying to read her, but she was doing a good job of keeping a straight face on.Something was definitely up with her, and I was going to find out when I’d settled all the pending issues."Eliana, are you okay?" I asked, concern creeping into my voice. She nodded, quickly taking a seat next to Pearl. "Yeah, I'm fine. Told you I got a headache, but it's gone now that I got some water." She replied with a wry smile.I nodded, not entirely convinced. Something was off, but I'd let it slide for now.Turning to Pearl, who was lost in her own thoughts, I asked, "How's your brother doing? Are you ready to tell us about your family?"She blinked at me like she didn’t expect me to ask her that, and then she shook her head and cleared her throat, her

  • Chapter 102: The Call to Action.

ElianaWe didn’t speak to each other as we walked to other rooms retrieving the contact information; the tension between us was palpable, and my mind was reeling with thoughts on what could have happened if the door had stayed closed.I thought about his words more often than I wanted to, and it made my skin crawl. What did he mean by saying he didn’t want to forget it? And why wouldn’t he say anything to me after such an intense moment? We finally returned to Serena’s room; Damian and Mila were sitting in a chair next to her bed, while she sat up in her bed dressed in the perfect outfit for going home. They were having a conversation when we arrived, but on seeing us, they stopped. I looked around and realized Pearl wasn’t in the room, and I raised my eyebrow at Damian.“Where’s Pearl?” I asked, my voice a bit shaky from the whole being in Victor’s presence.“The doctor took her to go see her brother as soon as you both left.” Damian explained, and I nodded. I shifted my gaze to Se

  • Chapter 101: A Day With Him

Eliana Pearl and I trailed quietly behind Mila and Damian as we walked through the hospital corridors; the familiar hospital smell and beeping of machines were a stark contrast to the anxiety brewing inside me. I still couldn’t get over Rostella’s words.Soon, we stopped in front of Serena's room, and I took a deep breath, trying to compose myself. That's when I saw him, Victor. Standing tall, his piercing eyes locked onto mine, and I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. I wasn't in the slightest bit ready to face him, not after what happened last night. My cheeks flushed, and I looked away, feigning ignorance."Eliana, are you okay?" Mila asked, noticing my sudden stiffness.I nodded, forcing a smile. "Yeah, just... super excited to see Serena."The doctor led us into the room, and I made sure to keep my distance from Victor. But just as we were about to enter, Damian slowly turned to Victor and said, "Victor, go and get the contacts from the hostages. Take Eliana with you; it'
