Chapter 21
Allistair's eyes snapped open. His brows drew together. He couldn't remember coming here. He felt the soft bed against his skin, the memory of how it happened vague. All he remembered was lying on the sofa and thinking. How he got onto the bed? He couldn't tell. He stood up, his legs touching the smoothened wood. Cold! He glanced around the room, the air cold as the floor, the atmosphere eerily comfortable for him. Maybe because he loved the darkness. He saw light sip into the room as a door to the balcony was ajar. He walked towards it, slowly opening it. Wider than it was. “You are awake” a masculine voice croaked. Deep..bottomless. His breath hitched and he held onto the door …Kieran? “ You heard me come out?” He asked, walking out of the room and into the balcony. Kieran nodded, a cigar in between his fingers as he exhaled the smoke. He was bare bodied. His body, a layered perfection. Allistair didn't realise he was staring too hard. The muscles were in place, his bac

“ O..Osiris?” He asked, the words came out, low, not in a dangerous way but in a way that seemed confused. Osiris merely smiled, then his shoes thumper against the gravel as he fled. Allistair sat fixed on the floor as Caedmon's shadow men pursued Osiris who seemed to willingly flee. His eyes were wide, his gaze darting around in utter confusion. He only knew Osiris when they were kids. Only met a few times because his uncle made sure he stayed away from his children. Then came the day he was kicked out. It was Osiris who offered him a coat, telling him to keep it so that he wouldn't get cold. He considered that kindness but …he knew better….better than anymore it was mockery in the guise of kindness. But one thing still felt off. How could Osiris predict his combat movements? It was almost like he had watched him train or perhaps …like they have trained together. “ Are you okay ?” One of the shadow men who stayed back asked him as he outstretched a hand to lift him up. Alli
Chapter 23
Away from there, in the suburban part of england. Inside a mansion's study room, two men stood in search of something. Pages scattered all over the ground. The scent of old book wafted in the air. Heavy. Satisfying. Then a masculine voice rang out. “ When did you find out he was what you wanted?” Daemon asked, his head aching towards Kieran who had paused his movements. Kieran looked up from the stack of book beneath him, eyes squinted in search of something “ The same night you found out” he breathed, lips curled up in satisfaction as he got what he wanted. A book, cover wrapped in dust, scent almost choking. “ What are you going to do now …you want the cure right? Remember you need to clear a debt?” Daemon asked, Kiera's movement paused, then he looked up. Gaze fixed on Daemon. “ Tell me Daemon, why are you here?” he asked. Daemon adjusted a bit, subconsciously biting on his lips. Hesitant. .“ I'm your second in command. I'm supposed to be here” he said and Kieran let out
Chapter 24
Allistair opened the seal cautiously, rolling down the document. He caught sight of the first name: Poe Dutch. He looked up to meet Caedmon's gaze, who just shrugged. “ Like I said, I'm on your side” he said, a smirk on his face. Allistair's brows gathered but he returned his gaze to the document. A short note was written in black ink, smeared on the piece. It read: “ If you are reading this, it means they have already found you. I'm sorry, I'm not here to tell you the full potentials of your blood. Be careful. You are more than a cure” His face darkened. Full potentials? More than a cure? What exactly was he other than a successful experiment? Although she apologised in the previous later, for never being there for him, for leaving him to carry the burden of her entire medical career…He still felt broken. Alone to sort out his misfortune with powerful aristicrates ready to tear down barriers just to get to him. His gaze went down the paper, a sharp exhale leaving his lips. T
Chapter 25
Allistair's head snapped with interest. “ Then you know how we can find him” he said, the words sounding more like a question than a statement. Kieran's head snapped to the left, he ran his tongue on his lips. Then shook his head. “ No, I don't” he dropped. Then continued, “ i have heard of him. But the last thing I heard of him was experimenting on children” “ Experimenting on children?” Allistair asked, brows furrowed. If his mother knew George Bunks and also suggested he meet with him, could he be trusted even after all this years? “ Why would be be experimenting on children? What for ?” “ He was being pursued then but all news of him disappeared” “ Then how come I never heard” Caedmon spoke up this time. His words seems to be hinting at a full blown suspicion.Kieran paused, then fixed his gaze on Caedmon. “ Because it didn't happen in England” “ Where?” Allistair asked, the same time as Caedmon. “ London. I went for a business” he dropped, his brows arched downwards.
Chapter 26
Lila swallowed and Allistair's brows furrowed. He didn't understand why she was hesitating but he had a rough idea. Even he was scared of what Kieran really was. “Why would I inflict an injury on my own skin?” She asked, her head slowly lifting. She slowly peered towards her shoulders. Gaze falling on the door. Nobody noticed. “ Why don't you tell me ….” Kieran trailed when a loud thud erupted. Allistair scrunched his nose. The scent was familiar. Blood ! The metallic scent of blood, fresh and hot. He'd know from fighting for almost half of his entire life. they all appeared shocked. Allistair's eyes widened. It was Eliot. Blood coursed down his face, his body a blood bath. The earlier thud was his knees which hit the wood directly. “ Sha..dow gu..ards” he croaked, “ too ..strong” he added, gurgling. Allistair's eyes stung badly as Eliot fell to the floor. The door burst open, the wood crashing down, with spikes flying away. Strong! How was that even possible?! Lila s
Chapter 27
In the dark underground torture room. Chains clanged, breathing ragged. Eleanor laid sprawled on the floor, the cold chains on her hands and legs keeping her in place. Her eyes were wide open, hair ruffled, scars on her back. Each tear stung badly, the salty liquid reminding her of her wounds. She sniffled. But, even breathing came with pain. Her gaze were locked on something. A piece of metal carved sharp, star edged. It was a key out of these chains. Her escape route. The guard came closer. His face, stoic. He flashed her a demeaning look, then grabbed her chin. “ Do you admit?” He asked. Eleanor scoffed, snatched her jaw away and spat on his face. The guard clenched his jaw, eyes snapped close as if controlling his rage. Yes, he was..but she didn't care. All she cared about was that dangling metal on his waist. He opened his eyes again, reached towards his belt, slowly pulled out a handkerchief and wiped his face, stood up, glaredat her. “ Seems you'd never confess” he s

THAMES BARRIER.the sign board wrote with some numbers indicating the had approached London. . Hours ride away from York and Allistair's fear had subsided replaced with a nostalgic feeling. That was quick. …He had never left home. He watched as everything was slowly replaced. The cottage stones replaced by scrappers, markets replaced by companies. Everything felt different. Even the air in London was a bit heavy than that of north Yorkshire, his home. Indeed, civilization had already begun in London. The black coals that painted York was replaced by a neat tarred road. Breathtakingly different…He'd love to breath in the air but too bad it wasn't so pure as that of York. He saw people ….not like he haven't ever seen people–no. But it was a lot of people. So much that he felt he had been tucked away from social interaction. He remembered hearing his father whisper London to his assistant then, Thame Lucious. A man who disappeared the same day his father did.To where ? He didn'

CHAPTER 29Caedmon moved, then scrunched his face. He ran his tongue on his lips, a liquid, metallic with a slight berry taste. Familiar. He glanced at the two men looking at him. Kieran looked nonchalant, but a slight glint showing intrigue was visible in his pupils. Allistair's face was the exact contrast. It was…relief and something else– confusion. Allistair moved closer, forehead creased, eyes sharp. “ How did this happen?” He asked, staring intently at him.His brows furrowed, his mind trailing to the events of the previous day. All he could remember was drinking the burgundy and he was certain it wasn't poisoned. Mere wine poisoning could do nothing to him. Then he remembered the shadow guards he fought with. They were strong…almost inhumane…His head throbbed and he snapped his eye shut, then slowly opened it.But he didn't remember being slashed with a dagger or anything. Not even his skin was touched. He shook his head, nothing he could remember. “ I don't know…”
Chapter 30
Eleanor struggled to lift her heavy eyelids. She heard a roaring sound…more like a pulsing engine or ..perhaps a car on repair . She finally opened her eyes, light invaded her lens and she snapped her eyes instantly..Where was she ? She opened her eyes again, adjusting to the light. It was a white beam of light dangling on the ceiling. The scent of cinnamon and wood wafted in the air. So heavy. She forced her body upwards. Her back aching from the pain. She remembered. The gunshot, the dirty trench, the man who called her black El.“ You are awake” a masculine voice rang out, thick and throaty. Familiar…very familiar! She snapped her head to the side, leaning against the bed board. Her bones ached with exhaustion. “ Who….are you?” She asked, her voice sounding hoarse. Then she coughed. The man smiled, his smile not reaching his eyes. There was this dark storm that brewed under the smile. Not entirely friendly. “ You don't.. recognise me?” He asked and she squinted her eye
