Chapter 31
Allistair stood, his brows furrowed. He didn't exactly know what to believe anymore. Kieran? A merchant? The one Tyron had warned him to stay away from. The one whom he didn't trust one bit. Or ..Lila, the woman whom he had grown to love, the innocent girl who had given him a slice of bread. He stared at her, she was quiet, her earlier trembling body now steady. He swallowed, of course he would choose Lila. He'd choose her a thousand times over Kieran. He outstretched his hands towards her. Her lashes flickered. She hesitated…then reached for his hand and held onto him. The second time, she held his hand. He exhaled and pulled her up, her toe hooked under the rug, her weight falling forward. Her eyes widened, a yelp escaping her lips. He caught her in one swift motion, hands on her waist. Her waist was lean, soft and eerily comforting. She was perfection. She smelt of Lavender–comforting and somewhat soothing. He sniffed, taking in her scent, then he paused ….Remembering….
Chapter 32
Kieran walked towards the room, pushed it open. Empty! Where had she gone? He heard the soft creak of wood behind him. His ears perked up. A soft clink, followed by a creak. It was towards his personal space. His room. His eyes darkened. He left the door open and walked towards the source of the noise. A step, a loud creak echoed. He saw his door slightly open. His face tightened. Then, he pulled the door open, walked into the low illuminated room.Lila–she was in there, tugging at every cabinet, footsteps hurried. He slammed the door behind him and she froze, hands trembling as her gaze fell on him. His hands clenched, veins bulging out. She leans backwards, eyes wide.He held up the carved metal pentagon bearing the Blackwell's family design. “ Looking for this?” He asked and she squinted, keeping a distance. He smirked, closed in on her. She took one step back, her throat bobbing up and down. Her back hit the book rack above, legs brushing against the connected cabinets
Chapter 33
Allistair didn't know exactly why he chose to kiss him. To kiss Kieran. The merchant he couldn't trust. The one person that he has been warned about. The one whom he had felt was always lying. But yet, here he was, lips pressed on Kieran, tongues entangled. Kieran's hands roaming around his body. His body trembling under his touch. It was supposed to be just a kiss. A kiss intended to say sorry in many ways. Sorry? Sorry for what? He wasn't even sure anymore. He didn't understand why. Sorry for blaming him every single time ? For not trusting him? For his few Shadow guards that lost their lives? But why was he supposed to even say sorry? For George Bunks? His head was a mess! Kieran's hands reached for his waist, pulled him closer. He straddled his legs and parted them. He should pull away now. But he didn't. He wasn't gay but here he was, doing something so shameful yet enjoying every bit of it.He shouldn't have ever crossed paths with Kieran. Kieran's broke off from the k
Chapter 34
Lights poked into the room, darkness still hovering around them. Allistair snapped his eyes open, the curtains were closed creating a kind of shade preventing the morning sun from reaching out into the room. .Wait …it was morning. He flung off the bed, turning around in an attempt to wake Caedmon. But–Caedmon wasn't on the bed. He outstretched his hands towards the side Caedmon had slept on. Cold–very cold. It meant Caedmon had left early in the morning or probably didn't sleep for too long. “ Done with the beauty sleep?” A masculine voice rang out. He lifted his gaze and saw Caedmon, leaning against the door, arms crossed. When did he arrive? He stood up and went towards the door, brushing his hair with his fingers. “ You didn't sleep” “ I did. Not for too long” Caedmon said as they walked towards the sitting room. Each wood creaked under them as they walked. The scent of olive becomes stronger with each step. He felt a strange presence, something overwhelming like he was b
Chapter 35
Hours passed, nightfall almost upon them.Allistair was standing, staring at his reflection in the large mirror. He looked…. different. His brown hair was neatly arranged into a mini cascade. His steel grey eyes emanating something he didn't know he possessed. still calm. He reached for his tie, strapped it to his neck, neatly. His suit was lapped on his body. Such fitting. He had never worn something this expensive. So rich in texture and he had never looked this…different. “ Are you ready?” Lila asked as she unlocked the door to come in. He turned to face her, calm. His eyes widened as he saw the woman before him. Blue …like the colour of her eyes. Blue princess gown with silver patterns and a little hair brooch. “ You look beautiful” he breathed, a small smile tugged on the edge of his lips. Lila didn't move. She stood fixated on the spot. Eyes wide, hands closed. He coughed a bit to draw her attention. She adjusted instantly. Her lashes flickering as she returned her ga
Chapter 36
Allistair was stunned. He shouldn't be surprised as the man was wealthy and had a high status. It's normal for him to appear at places like this. “ He shouldn't be here” Lila said, dragging him off towards the restroom like her life depended on it. His eyes darkened. What was she scared of ? It was her father. “ He is probably here for …the networking??” He dragged and she exhaled. She had successfully dragged him into a corner, away from the center of attention. He grabbed onto her shoulder and stared at her. “ Why..why run from your father?”Lila tugged at her dress, pulled his hand off her shoulder, flashed him a quick glance, then looked away. “ He wasn't supposed to attend this year’s network gala” she said, then paused, brows drawn together, “ at least that's what he told me” Her expression was overtaken by rock hard seriousness. Nothing like the soft lady-like expression from earlier. He raised a brow, his gaze boring through her. In an attempt to see deep into her very
Chapter 37
Lila's head snapped towards him, her hands tightening on the steering wheel. “ Who's that?” She asked. He leaned backwards. His brows furrowed. Was he wrong? Was he seeing the wrong thing. He wasn't sure of what he was shocked of. The fact that he could see in the dark or the fact that he just saw George Bunks and too, with Blackwell? Lila sighed, “ look, I know ..I know Kieran told you not to trust me. But..” she said and held his hand, looking deep into his eyes. Time seemed to stop for a moment and his earlier thoughts vanished …“ You can trust me” she added. He froze. Trust? He didn't trust anyone. But …he would rather trust Lila than believe Kieran. He nodded, “ George Bunks. He is the one I need to meet to know more about my blood” he said. Lila withdrew her hand from him. Her brows gathered together. It looked like she was trying hard to know where she heard the name. Then she paused, her eye flashing with a light glint. Realization to be exact. “ You know him?”
Chapter 38
Water splattered as he ran. He felt regretful for a second. He should have just stayed back at the gala. He should have listened to Kieran but now it was already too late. He felt a dark intent, more like danger in a close range. He dodged and a dagger ripped past him and stuck itself on the only wooden door frame. His eyes widened with horror as his blood ran cold. They struck to kill, nothing else. He couldn't make out Lila's figure in the dark or which direction she took, he strained his eyes and that slowed his movement, then he saw her. She darted out of the exit door in the speed of lightening and he did same the next second. “ They followed us?” He asked, his voice rough as he sprinted towards the car. “ No, these ones are different” she replied unevenly, trying to catch her already fleeting breath. He didn't have the brain to process what she just said but he caught onto something. How could she tell if they were different or not? He pulled the door open but the next
Chapter 39
Kieran walked slowly, steadily. Twigs snapping with each movement. His trembling hands had subsided but his anger spiked seeing Allistair on the floor. A feeling he didn't understand. Couldn't tell exactly why he was angry. “ Kieran” Allistair whispered, a look of shock, fear and hope flashing in his eyes. He ignored him and slowly walked towards the shadow guard who immediately took two steps backwards. He smirked. Wasn't he all bold a while ago? The four gathered together, taking up a stance. One that oozed a killer intent. “ They don't seem ordinary” Orion, his shadow guard whispered, hands clenched on his gear-shaped weapon. “ I'm not either” Kieran breathed and lunged forward. The shadow guards all came at him at the same time. It was like they knew that play time was over and it was serious business. Kieran flung his dagger towards one, sliding under the ground. The first shadow guard dodged but it didn't miss the second guard. The second hissed in pai
Chapter 40
“ How did you find us?” Allistair finally broke the silence in the house. Kieran flung his bloody suit aside, looking like he was ready to commit murder. “ He had Orion watch you” Caedmon answered , patching him up. He winced, the pain from his shoulder was stinging. Almost like his arm was about to be ripped off his shoulders. He furrowed his brow, Kieran sent someone to follow him? It explained the ominous feeling of being watched when he left the gala building. He let out a small smile, glanced at Kieran…“ He talks about trust but he certainly didn't trust I would listen to him” he said, groaned when Caedmon wrapped the bandage firmly. “ It's not you he doesn't trust. It's her” Caedmon said, gesturing towards Lila who was still lying on the floor appearing lifeless. Allistair remembered something. The way Lila had reacted. The shadow guards. Everything. “if we didn't go, we couldn't have known George Bunks was working for Blackwell” he said and Caedmon exhaled. “ If Ori
