Chapter 31
All these questions and more had been swirling in Alena’s head all during the morning visit to the boy’s room with his mother. She’d been trying to figure out a way she could find out what the boy actually knew, so she was all too happy to comply when the boy asked her to stay behind.“What is it?” The healer asked calmly once the door closed after his mother’s exit. Greg didn’t speak directly. Instead, he looked down at his lap, as if he wasn’t sure how to answer the healer. Greg was nervous. To have grown to the heights that she had, the healer couldn’t have been an idiot. If he wasn’t careful, he ran the risk of losing all the goodwill he may have earned with her. After a whole night of thinking and talking with Olivia, however, this was the best plan that he could come up with. Greg needed the million magic points required to buy the awakening potion. He wouldn’t need it for at least two years. Greg, however, wasn’t willing to gamble. If nothing else, all that had so far happene
Chapter 32
The only reason Greg had been willing to act out this small deception was because it was logical. In truth, Greg didn’t at all care about his disfigured face. He had already talked to Olivia about it and indeed there was a tier three potion that he could buy for a hundred and thirty magic points. This potion could completely restore him to how he was before the hunting incident. But while he didn’t care, it wouldn’t raise any red flags with the healer if he acted like he was desperate to regain his former looks. Of course, someone who’d had their face disfigured to the degree that his had would want to be healed. He wouldn’t be trying to test the limits of the healer’s intelligence by trying to get her to believe this. A look of understanding crossed the healer’s face as she understood why the boy had asked her to stay behind. “In some cases, I did succeed, in others, I didn’t,” she answered honestly. The look of understanding morphed into one of pity as she regarded him. “However,
Chapter 33
Well, now that you are not distracted by questions, or meeting your mother,' Olivia's voice sounded in Greg's head. 'Perhaps you should check out your missions tab,' the familiar recommended. A brow arched on Greg's face when he heard this. Rather than ask questions, however, Greg chose to comply and open the system and move to the missions tab. Greg's eyes went wide when he found new missions listed. Greg was certain that he hadn't heard the usual 'DING' that indicated that new missions were available. And yet, here they were. But even more shocking to him than the fact that he hadn't gotten any notifications, was who the missions were targeted at. His mother! Part of Greg was surprised by this new development. A larger part, however, wasn't. After going through the Twisted and Rogue missions tab, it had already become abundantly clear to Greg that this system was amoral, if not completely immoral when it came to the subject of sex. There were no lines that it wasn't willing to cro
Chapter 34
And sure enough, there was something different on the 'COMPLETED MISSIONS' tab. Right at the top of the list, written in bold were the words; FEAT OF LUST ACCOMPLISHED! RANDOM DRAW AVAILABLE! PICK? YES/NO! Greg couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement as he read the words. He didn't even know what it was all about, but from what he was reading, it wasn't a bad thing. "What is a feat of lust? "Greg asked unable to hide the anticipation in his voice. "To accomplish a feat of lust, you'd have to do something that has never been done before. That, or do something that would require one to either be crazy or have balls big enough to sit on, to do," She relayed. "Most importantly, that deed has to be done in the pursuit of or in the process of obtaining sexual pleasure for it to be considered a feat of lust," She stated. Greg couldn't help but furrow his brows as he went over the previous night trying to remember when he'd done something like that. Looking at the announceme
Chapter 35
Greg sucked in a cold breath, unable to believe what he'd just read. This was nothing short of a life-saving card. Greg had picked up on the fact that the blessing would only protect him against physical damage. Still, it didn't make the card any less desirable. Greg didn't for a second doubt that there were individuals out there that were much more physically gifted than he was. If he was ever to fight one of those individuals and they didn't employ magic against him, it would be like Greg had armor on that defended him from half the damage they could have inflicted upon him. And if he happened to have armor on at the time, then the damage would be even more reduced! Greg once again found himself very tempted to ignore the other options and go for the one before him. Gritting his teeth, however, Greg forced himself to look at the last card. There were only two words on this last card. 'SOUL BOW'. However, unlike the other cards which only had text, this one had the image of a fine
Chapter 35
Greg was quiet for a while as he processed his familiar's words. It had strayed a bit from their current topic, but still, she had given Greg a lot of valuable information. It also gave him a more realistic assessment of just how useful the title would be. The stalwart blessing and the soul bow were much more straightforward to understand, which meant that their shortcomings were also plain to see. Greg was planning to become a mage, meaning that most of the opponents he'd come across on his journey to the top would be other mages. The blessing would half all the physical damage that he received. It, however, would be completely useless against magic. This meant that while this blessing would be useful while he was still a mundane human, it would increasingly become useless to him the more he advanced in magic. With the soul bow, the problem was the opposite. From Olivia's explanation, the bow would increasingly become more powerful the more Greg grew as a mage. However, until Greg
Chapter 36
Alena moved through the hallway with the young girl holding a small tray beside her. Looking at the healer's calm expression, one wouldn't be able to tell the storm of emotions going through her. The young man was going to leave the infirmary today. And while that was a good thing, she couldn't get herself to feel happy about it. He was the only link that she had to that mysterious entity that had visited his room a few nights before, and he was about to slip out of her grasp. After the boy had become aware of just how disfigured his face was and found that not even Alena could heal him, he had completely withdrawn into himself. He barely looked in her direction let alone talked to her when she visited. Even his arousal during his daily evening wipe-downs had faded. If he left the infirmary today with this awkward air between them, she would have no way of getting close to him and perhaps through him come into contact with that mysterious power behind him. With her injuries, Alena wo
Chapter 37
When the girl had first visited him two days ago, she had been really quiet, barely speaking at all. Greg knew that as the new head of the house, she was required to behave herself around him and not be overly emotional. Greg, however, had struggled out of his bed and onto his feet before pulling her into a tight hug. "I know that you're in pain," He had said softly. "You don't have to hide it, or pretend when you are before me," He had continued. "It's okay to feel the way you feel. Just let it all out," He'd said, his voice barely above a whisper. The girl broke down and cried for almost half an hour in his arms. By the time she could compose herself once more, the food had already gone cold. Greg, however, hadn't cared in the least. Instead, he had spent the next hour talking to her about how she was coping with the death of their father. All through the conversation, Greg had made sure to repeatedly inform her that she could always come to him if she ever felt overwhelmed. Greg kn
Chapter 38
Greg didn't consider himself a genius by any stretch of the imagination. But by the same measure, he wasn't an idiot either. Even without Olivia hinting at the fact that the healer had some secrets, Greg had picked up on some clues himself. The earliest clue that Greg had picked up on, was the fact that the healer seemed to be struggling with her magic. The pain that she carefully hid whenever she pushed her magic use past a certain point, didn't strike Greg as normal. Next, the system came along and told him that the woman posed the highest danger grading it could assign which was the suicidal danger grading. Essentially, the system declared that, despite whatever struggles with magic the woman had, Greg was no more than a lamb awaiting slaughter if she ever desired to harm him. Olivia next came along and reinforced this assessment from the system by revealing that the healer was a seventh-tier mage. A tier that, according to Olivia, could kill just by their aura alone if they weren'
Chapter 39
When Greg stepped out of the infirmary, the wooden mask his sister had brought him was on his face. Greg had to give it to the carpenter that made it. He was good at his craft. The mask was smooth to the touch and wouldn't chafe at his skin. The eyeholes were just right, not big enough to show the damage around his eyes, and not small enough to obstruct his vision. The air holes were positioned just right to allow him to breathe with ease and even the strap that ran around his head to hold the mask in place wasn't too tight. The only shortcoming, as far as Greg could tell, was the fact that it only covered his face. The sides of Greg's head remained visible to anyone who took the time to look at him closely. But then again, in its own way, this was also a good thing as it would make him way less suspicious than if he was completely covered. Now, anyone that looked at him would easily understand why he was covering up. This would spare him having to repeatedly explain himself. It was
