ASSASSINS OF THE KHAGAN COUNCIL
Bullets slammed into the SUV as the convoy fought to stay in formation on the narrow road. Ethan ducked when a burst tore through the front windshield. Glass sprayed into the cabin. The driver jerked once, then slumped over the wheel with blood running down his neck. The butler in the passenger seat gasped, a red hole blooming on his chest before his head dropped.“Damn!” Leonard cursed, grabbing the steering wheel from the back. “Hold on!”The SUV swerved, but an escort vehicle bumped their rear and forced them straight. Shots cracked from both sides of Blackthorn Crestway. Dust and smoke hugged the road.“Alpha-1 driver down! Shield formation now!” a voice shouted in Leonard’s earpiece.Ethan stared at the dead men in front. Now they were gone because someone wanted the new Xavier global holdings boss erased on an empty road.Another bullet hit the side window near his head and left a thick crack.Between the bursts of gunfire, taunting voices floated in from outside.“So this is
THE SEVEN THRONES OF THE KHAGAN
The sharp chemical odor of spent bullet rounds still clung to Ethan’s clothes…”The three remaining SUVs rolled up the steep approach road, the doors were scratched, metal dented. Behind them, a fourth vehicle turned away on Leonard’s order, carrying the bodies of the driver, butler and two other security personnel back to the Xavier estate. At the main gate of Arkstone Ridge, guards in dark uniforms stepped forward. Their eyes swept over the damaged cars, then locked on the silver dragon emblem of Xavier on the doors. One of the guards stepped closer. “Master Ethan… you came straight here?” he asked, trying to hide his surprise.Ethan opened the door and stepped down. Dust still clung to his shoes. There was a faint streak of dried blood on his sleeve. He didn’t bother to hide it.“The council summoned me,” he said. “I am here. Open the gate.”The guard swallowed and nodded quickly. “Yes, sir.”As the heavy gates slid aside, Leonard came around the SUV to stand beside Ethan. “We can
THE WEIGHT OF THE DRAGON THRONE
However Ethan lifted his head.He looked from Victor Danielson to General Herold, then to Lionel, Harrington, Verda, and finally to Caspian. He let his gaze rest on each of them for a brief moment, making sure they saw there was no fear in his eyes, only something sharper. The room grew quiet again.“You have all said your piece,” Ethan said. His voice was low but steady in the cold chamber. “I have heard every word.”Herold smirked and leaned back in his chair. “Good,” he said. “Then maybe you will learn.”Leonard stood behind Ethan’s chair and watched his shoulders. They were stiff, but they did not sag. This was not a man broken in Magnus’s seat. This was a man holding himself in place.Dr. Hilton Verda shifted, the VerdaLife emblem on his lapel catching the light. “Holding yourself is not the same as leading,” he said, folding his hands. “This council is not a place for practice. The late Magnus Xavier should have known better than to fix this seat for someone so young and incompe
THE RISE OF THE DRAGON'S HEIR
Victor smiled thinly. “Not yet,” he said. “You spoke earlier about leverage. You quoted a few numbers. Let me explain why I am not impressed.”Ethan looked up, eyes colder now. “Then listen while I correct you,” he said. “My grandfather Magnus Xavier did not just give me a chair. He gave me his files.”The room grew very still. Ethan tapped the folder once with his fingers.“Those files say Danielson Conglomerate is overleveraged,” he went on. “Mr Victor Danielson your refineries and mines are mortgaged against tomorrow. Xavier tech quietly props up your energy trading platforms when the markets swing. Our backup systems keep your power grids from slipping into rolling blackouts at night.” He held Victor’s gaze. “You call it sentiment. I call it charity.”Herold’s smirk faded a little. Harrington shifted in his seat. Hilton’s eyes narrowed behind his glasses.“So before you suggest ‘overseeing’ Xavier Group,” Ethan finished, “perhaps you should worry about how many of your pipelines w
THE MAN WHO PULLED THE PLUG
For a few long seconds after Ethan dropped the call, the Khagan Chamber was dead silent.Victor Danielson stared at him like he had grown a second head. Herold’s fingers tapped once on the glass table. Lionel’s smirk twitched at the corner. Harrington’s eyes narrowed behind his lenses. Caspian Yulian just watched, calm and quiet.Herold scoffed first, breaking the tension. “So that’s it?” he said. “You pick up a phone and pretend you are your grandfather?”Lionel chuckled. “Very dramatic, I must admit.”Harrington folded his hands. “Call theater does not move markets, Mr Ward.”Ethan leaned back in Magnus’s old chair. “You will know soon enough if it was theater,” he said.Victor forced a dry laugh, trying to pull his pride back together. “You really think one call can hurt Danielson Conglomerate?” he said. “My pipelines have run since before you were born.”Ethan met his gaze. “And they have been standing because Xavier tech allowed it,” he replied. “You just never bothered to look u
THE PACKAGE OF DOOM
Victor Danielson ignored him. His eyes were fixed on Ethan.“Master Ethan,” he said, his voice was hoarse. “I… was wrong. I disrespected you and your grandfather’s memory. I spoke like your company was a toy when it has been holding my empire together.”Ethan looked down at him, his face was unreadable.“Restore Xavier global holdings support to Jacostia,” Victor continued. “If those pipelines stay dead, Danielson Conglomerate will collapse. My workers, my cities… everything goes with it.”“You mean,” Ethan said, “you are the one rolling in the mud now.”Victor bowed his head. “Name your terms,” he said. “Any terms. I will sign it.”Around the table, the other men stared at the sight. The king of energy who was in his sixties was on his knees before the youngest man in the room.Herold’s jaw tightened. “You see?” he snapped at Ethan. “This is what happens when you pull triggers like a child. You break the balance.”Harrington glanced at Ethan with new respect. “Balance was already bro
THE FALL OF THE WAR KING
The room was already heavy when Ethan decided to drop the rest of his bomb.He looked relaxed as he fixed his eyes on General Marcus Herold. The general’s face was still rigid from the news of his destroyed drones.“You asked about my ‘special package,’” Ethan said calmly. “Let’s start with Nelvoria Republic.”Nelvoria republic was the country at the northern national border of Verdanis. The name cut through the chamber like a blade. Harrington shifted. Hilton Verda’s expression darkened. Everyone knew Nelvoria was a bleeding wound on Verdanis’ northern border.Herold frowned. “What are you dragging that failed state into this for?”Ethan tapped the table. “Because for the last five years, every time ethnic tensions rose in Nelvoria, Herold Defense Systems posted record quarters. Every riot, every massacre, every wave of refugees—your profit line climbed with it.”“That’s a dangerous claim,” Herold snapped. “I supplied their government for stability.”“You supplied both sides,” Ethan
A NOBODY IN THE QUEUE...OR SO THEY THOUGHT
Ethan sat in his G-Wagon across the street from Imperium Bank and listened to Florian breathe into the phone like a man standing over a cliff.“Okay, Mr Florian,” Ethan said, eyes on the glass doors of the branch. “I’m at your bank.”On the other end, Florian sounded like he almost stood up. “Good, good. Just wait there, I’ll come down and receive you properly. I’ll clear the floor if I have to. The staff will roll out a—”“There’s no need,” Ethan cut in. His tone stayed calm, but firm. “I don’t want attention. I told you already, I intend to keep my identity private today. I will stand in the queue, do what I need to do, and leave like nothing happened. You understand me?”There was a pause, then Florian’s voice dropped into full respect. “Okay, boss, I fully understand. Your wish is my command. The account will be opened as you requested, and the forty percent share acquisition will be processed once you give the word.”Ethan was about to be a major shareholder in the imperium bank
RESPECT HAS A PRICE
Ethan held her gaze. “Why are you talking about worth,” he said, “when your man just behaved like an unreasonable child and violated my right in public?”A few people in the line sucked in their breath. No one spoke up, but they watched more closely now. The security guard near the wall shifted his weight but did not approach. He saw who was involved and chose to stay still. He didn't want to get involved with Mr Fridel Jones. The woman took one step closer to Ethan, heels clicking softly on the tile. “You don’t know your place,” she hissed. “Men like you should stay quiet and grateful when real people walk into a room.”“If ‘real people’ behave like this,” Ethan answered, “you should be ashamed to stand beside him. Both of you should even be ashamed of the fact that you are acting in a very much unreasonable manner, even in public.”Color rushed into the young woman's face. Her hand moved before anyone could stop her. The slap cracked across Ethan’s cheek, loud enough for the whole
WHEN ARROGANCE MEETS AUTHORITY
Ethan shifted his gaze. He did not look at Fridel yet. He did not look at the mistress. He let the question hang in the air like a weight. The silence made it worse. Everyone could feel something heavy building, and no one knew which direction it would break.Just then, the security doors of the bank slid open. Two tall men in dark suits entered first, shoulders wide, eyes sharp. Behind them walked Florian Donalds. He wore a dark grey suit, but the confidence he usually carried was gone. Today his steps were careful. His eyes moved quickly, searching. The hall seemed to hold its breath again.“That’s the chairman of this bank,” someone whispered. “Florian Donalds.”“Is the suspension over?” another customer asked softly. “Did he fix it?”Kellan straightened at once. For a moment, his instincts told him to rush to Florian. But then he remembered who was standing right in front of him. He stayed rooted beside Ethan like a soldier beside a general.Florian’s bodyguards scanned the hall.
