CHAPTER 1
A SERVANT IN NAME, KING IN SHADOWThe strong scent of bleach clung to the air as Damien Hale carefully scrubbed the bathroom's polished tiles. Each stroke of the rag was smooth, his strong hands clearing every stain. To anyone passing by, the young man was nothing more than an efficient household servant. But Damien was no servant. He was the son-in-law to the Reed family, the most prominent dynasty in the East. So why would a man like him be reduced to this? Damien didn't complain. He never did. Suddenly, the sound of a soft buzz caused Damien to pause. He turned to his phone and stared down at the screen. It was his subordinate, Ryan Chen. Damien growled inwardly. Ryan knew better than to call him when he was working. His reason this time better be worth it. Wiping his hands on his shirt, Damien picked up the phone and slid the call icon before placing it against his ear. The sound of paper rustling came from the other line as Ryan greeted Damien. “Good morning, Mr. Hale,” he
CHAPTER 2
A FEAST FOR ONEThe sound of whisk against glass echoed through the kitchen as Damien mixed the batter for his applied pie. His sleeves rolled neatly to his elbow, and his grip on the bowl tightening, Damien stirred harder as the rich aroma of butter sugar and cinnamon wafted through the air. He paused, cutting a piece of the batter with his finger and tasting it. “Yeah, that's nice," he said with a satisfied nod. Still whisking, he reached for his phone with his second hand and dialed Ryan's number. Placing the phone against his ear, he grabbed the bowl again. The phone buzzed once before Ryan's voice picked up. “Hello, sir," Ryan greeted, keyboard clicks audible in the background. “Yeah, Chen," Damien instructed as he grabbed a salt shaker. “I’d love for you to take good care of the men who helped Vanessa's firm go public, yeah? Make sure you provide them with whatever they ask for. They should be content. An appreciation for their efforts.”“I will make sure of that, sir," Ryan
CHAPTER 3
THE WALK AWAYThe door slowly creaked open, the light from the still rising sun pouring into the house. A soft whistle echoed across the room as the cold wind from outside blew into the house. Vanessa let out a soft sigh as she walked in, unwrapping her scarf from around her neck as she closed the door behind her. She pulled off her coat and hung it with the scarf on the suit rack. Soft jazz poured into the foyer from the living room and Vanessa couldn't help but hum to the song. Her fingers worked its way around the lock of her Rolex wristwatch as she walked through the doorway. But then she caught sight of a figure sitting on the couch and she let out a loud yelp. Her beating heart calmed when the figure turned on the table lamp, revealing their face. It was Damien. “What the fuck, Damien?" she cursed angrily, slipping her wristwatch out of her hand and into her pocket. “You fucking scared me there." Damien stirred on the couch, his fingers running through his hair as he took a

THE GRAVE AND THE GATE 1The street was bustling with the sound of chatter and the hum of morning traffic. But Damien had tuned everything out. The image of that man kissing his wife on the lips, Vanessa stretching her hands for him and the echo of her shouting voice in his mind drowned out everything else. ‘How did I even get to be with you.’‘You don't deserve me.’‘If you say it is, then maybe it is.’She had not even bothered denying it. That was what had hurt him the most. Damien clenched his fist, his jaws tightening as he tried taking his mind off everything. But the more he tried pushing it away, the harder it rebounded, the truth smacking him right across the face. Suddenly, his phone vibrates, jolting him back to the present. He pulled it out of his pocket and stared at the screen. It was Ryan. With a weary sigh, he slid the call icon and placed the phone against his ear. “What is it, Ryan?" he asked, his voice reduced to a soft whisper. “Sorry if I'm disturbing, sir,”
CHAPTER 5
THE GRAVE AND THE GATE 2Damien quickened his pace as the cry came again, louder now, and this time more clearer. ."Help! Someone, help!" the voice was shook, filled with desperationWhen he finally reached the gate, he found a woman near the roadside, surrounded by three men. Her hair was disheveled and her blouse was torn at the side, revealing the girdle she wore underneath. The three men laughed as they pushed her around, tossing her amongst themselves like she was a rag doll. One of the men–short, with a blind eye–pulled her arm and wrapped his arm around her waist. “You keep screaming, little thing,” he whispered as he popped out a pocket knife, “and I'll run this blade down your throat." The woman twisted and turned in his grasp as she tried to writhe herself out of his hold. "Let me go,” she screamed, her voice now weak as she realized her efforts were futile. "I won't tell anyone. Please just let me go.”He let go of her as though listening to her pleas, but then pushed he

THE STRANGER'S HANDEverywhere was quiet… too quiet.Elara stirred, blinking against the blinding light above her. A chandelier. Her pulse spiked. Where was she?She tried to move, but pain shot through her arm. Thin red lines trailed down to her wrist, and the sight shattered her composure. Tears blurred her vision as dread clawed its way up her throat. What had they done to her?Suddenly, the door creaked open and a young man stepped in, sleeves rolled, whiskey bottle in hand. Her breath hitched–he was the man who had violated her. Rage took over and Elara let out a loud scream. She grabbed a vase from the bedside table and hurled it at the man, but he moved to the side, dodging it as though he had seen it coming. “You do know that's really expensive,” he said, his voice low and smooth. Elara gripped the second lamp beside her, trembling. She didn’t answer, just glared at him, hatred burning through her fear. Sighing, the man dropped the whiskey bottle on the vanity table and fo
CHAPTER 7
DING!Margaret sighed as she sank into the plush chair, swirling the glass of margarita in her hands. The afternoon sun streamed into the expensive suite through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Velvet curtains lined the walls, crystal ornaments glittered in the sunlight, and the air was faint with the scent of imported roses–but it wasn't just the elegance of the room she wanted them to see. She had intentionally brought Anna and Theresa here, to the exclusive suite her daughter had rented at the Grand Monarch Hotel to flaunt Vanessa's accomplishments… and that of her new son-in-law too. “Oh, my!” Anna breathed, nodding slowly. "The Grand Monarch. I never imagined I’d set foot in a place like this.” Maragaret chuckled and Anna tried her best to look thrilled–but the slight twitch in her eyes betrayed the jealousy seething within her. Everything good just happened to come her way. And she always flaunted it in their faces. Pathetic. Theresa adjusted herself on her seat, her lips twi

WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE“Penthouse Level.”The elevator slowed to a stop and with a ding, the doors slid open, revealing the private foyer. Her mouth opened with awe. “What's… what is this place?” Elara asked as she stepped out of the elevator, her bag clutched close to her chest. “Where… where is this?”Damien walked behind her, wrapping an arm around her waist as he gently led her forward. Elara's cheeks flushed as his strong hands pulled her forward towards the tall double doors at the end of the hallway. She looked up at his face, watching his expressions–he still hadn’t cracked a smile, the same cold indifference from when they were in the room still on his face. “The penthouse above the Grand Monarch,” Damien breathed as they stopped in front of the double doors. “Forbes mentioned this place to be the most exclusive and expensive in the state.”Elara's grip on her bag tightened as her gaze swept over the abstract paintings lining the wall of the hallway. She recalled a Forbes feat
CHAPTER 9
RED LIGHT Damien took a step back, his jaws tightening as Margaret stepped off the elevator. He grabbed Elara's hand, pulling her behind him as the old lady glared at him with disgust. “What the hell are you doing here, you bastard?” Margaret asked, her voice sharp as she grabbed him by the collar of his shirt. “Have you been following me? Running around, chasing my tail. You want me to beg Vanessa for you, right?"Damien grabbed Margaret's hand, pulling it off his shirt. Margaret, shocked by his audacity, scoffed, her eyes widening in surprise before narrowing into slits. His expression unchanging, Damien adjusted his squeezed collar and inhaled slowly. "This isn't the time, Margaret," he said quietly. "We'll leave now.”Turning to Elara, he gently grabbed her arm and pulled her toward the elevator. He didn't want any drama, but Margaret seemed to thrive on it. “And where the hell do you think you're going?" she asked, her voice echoing across the hallway as she stepped in front
CHAPTER 10
SERVANT BOY RETURNSThe elevator ride down was silent, the hum of soft music filling the quiet. Elara kept on glancing at Damien but his expression still remained unreadable. Yet, something in his eyes had shifted…After everything that had happened upstairs, she couldn't help but rethink her decision. Maybe she wasn't meant to be in this world–everything was just so different. She clutched the keycard tight, wondering if she should just thank him and reject his offer–if she should walk away, or follow him?She looked up at Damien, watching as he stood by the street, answering a call. Before she could make up her mind to tell him, a car stopped in front of them and Damien opened the door without a word. His gaze met hers–cold, steady, but not unkind. Elara hesitated, heart tightening, before finally stepping in beside him.Without another word, Damien walked to the other side and got in. As soon as the door clicked shut, the car pulled away from the curb. Silence filled the space, le
