CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE “You seem like you are very excited about this event, Mr. Duke,” Marcus observed, taking a deep breath.“Is there anything that I am missing?” He inquired, listening attentively with his brows furrowed. “I don’t think so, Master Marcus.” Duke gave a very flat response, and that made Marcus’s curiosity to linger.“I still find that difficult to believe, Mr. Duke.” He took a deep breath, and after a while, he decided not to think about it too much. “Is there any other thing, Mr. Duke?” He asked, and after a while, the old man gave a response, his voice still low and heavy at the same time.“There is no other thing, Master Marcus.” “Good.” Marcus took a deep breath, and then he cleared his throat. “I guess I will see you at the party tonight…” He continued, assuming that the old man was going to be in attendance. “Goodbye, Master Marcus,” Duke said in a very dismissive tone even though he was smart about it, and that was an indication that he was up to something.

CHAPTER SIXTY-TWO He couldn’t get himself to tell her that he had never seen his father, at least since he got to a cognizant age. He couldn’t get himself to tell her that he didn’t even know what he looked like.Marcus had tried to picture what his father looked like, but he couldn’t. Additionally, he had searched the internet for pictures of himself, but it was as if he didn’t exist, and that got him a bit confused. “How is it possible for someone as rich and powerful as my father not to be on social media?” He asked himself, almost forgetting that he was not alone in the room. A few seconds later, a nurse walked into the ward, and that was the moment when Marcus was able to drift back to reality. He stood by the corner watching as the nurse attended to Gwen, checking the flow of the medication running down the cannula.“Have you had anything to eat?” The nurse asked Gwen, but she couldn’t say, looking away slowly. The nurse chuckled softly, but that was not because of mockery

CHAPTER SIXTY-THREE “No, I don’t.” Marcus gave a very quick response, and even though Henry seemed to have intensified his glare, he refused to budge.“Maybe you can tell me why you stopped me, Mr. Russell. That will save both of our time. I am sure you have very important things to do, and so do I…” Henry grunted, and could no longer hide the contempt he felt for Marcus. He clenched his right fist tightly, seeming like he was getting ready to throw a punch. Marcus took a deep breath, and even though he was getting ready to defend himself, he was hoping that the middle-aged man was not going to be just like his son. Henry decided to break his silence, but that came right after he had snarled at Marcus, his flaming eyes a promise of retaliation. “I want to show you something.” He said quietly, and as soon as he reached for his pocket, Marcus took a step backward, his eyes narrowing on the pocket while he observed closely to know what the man was about to take out.Henry scoffed,

“Is everything alright?” The young man clad in a grey suit asked, inching closer with slow steps. “I thought you were gone. I was surprised when I was told you were still here.” He continued with a very respectful tone, looking the middle-aged man in the face. After a few seconds, he turned to look at Marcus, but he only stared at him for a few seconds before he returned his gaze to the man he figured was more important than any other person in the restaurant. The young man’s appearance seemed to have drawn more attention, especially since some of the ladies had always admired him, frequenting that place just to take a glimpse of his charm. He was not just tall and handsome, but had a fashion sense that always made him stand out wherever he found himself. His presence seemed to have given the workers in the restaurant a good reason to be up and doing, and while the waiters and waitresses hurried to grab the orders of the hungry customers, the security men who had abandoned the

CHAPTER SIXTY-FIVE “What?!” Nathan gasped, and his hatred for Marcus instantly increased without any consideration.“How dare you do that?!” He fired at him, eyes flaming with rage.“You must kneel and apologize to Mr. Russell this minute! You are even luckier that he is only asking for an apology. You should suffer the same fate you inflicted on Fred!” Marcus scoffed, and even though he tried to hide his disbelief, it seemed to be looking right back at him, causing him to take a deep breath. “Is this how you have chosen to judge this case without hearing from both sides?” He asked, but Nathan refused to change his mind about his bias, knowing what he stood to gain from supporting Henry. “I don’t need to hear from you, boy!” Nathan snorted, eyes burning with disdain. “Mr. Russell is a very respectable person in this City! I am sure that you are the one who is at fault here.” Marcus scoffed, staring in disbelief, but the Manager was not done talking, nor was he done glaring at hi

CHAPTER SIXTY-SIX This sight left Marcus furious, but Henry seemed to be having fun watching him gnash his teeth while he was filled with rage. “I told you not to do that.” Marcus growled inwardly, his eyes sparking with fire. “Why did you eat that food, Nathan? It was meant for someone sick.” He lamented, still trying to hold onto his anger, but it seemed as though it was boiling so much that it was going to explode inside him, all his veins slowly lining up to show how pissed off he was. “She is sick, and needs the food urgently. You shouldn’t have done that.” He grunted, anger sparking in his eyes. “Aww!” Nathan pouted, looking at Marcus with a smirk all over his face. “I didn’t know that you were taking the food to your girlfriend, boy…”“Girlfriend?” Henry scoffed, staring at Marcus with disdain. “I wonder what girl with be stupid enough to be with someone like him.” He kept his disgruntled stare, looking at Marcus from hair to the sole of his shoes. “Don’t be deceived by

CHAPTER SIXTY-SEVEN The guards stared at the Manager one after the other, their faces laced with disbelief.Nothing had prepared them for that moment, not even the fact that Nathan was holding onto a smile, something they were not used to seeing, except when the Manager was either flirting with one of he customers or walking in and out of his office with a lady. “Do you mean we can have the food?” One of them asked, his voice low and laced with so much uncertainty.“Yes. Plus a bottle of wine!” Nathan gave a very quick response, holding onto his smile.“As you can see…” He showed the food to the men, making sure that they saw the huge piece of meat that still looked appealing and mouthwatering even though he had eaten from it. The guards smacked, almost snatching the food from him as they looked with wide eyes. The thought of eating that kind of food had never crossed their minds, and now Nathan was offering it to them for free.“I am sure you know that you cannot afford this kind

CHAPTER SIXTY-EIGHT Henry couldn’t do anything for him, especially since he was also struggling with his own nervousness. Marcus on the other hand was already standing in front of the Manager, glaring at him with fury sparking in his eyes.“I warned you, but you refused to listen! Now you have made me so angry that I want to break your bones just like I broke Fred’s bones!”Nathan swallowed hard, eyes bulging like they were about to crawl from their sockets. “I am so sorry, Marcus! I am going to replace the food! I will make sure you get an extra plate and any choice of wine you want! Consider this a way of saying that I am sorry!” Nathan continued to shiver before the same man he had mocked, his breathing quivering violently. Again, he had looked at Henry, but the middle-aged man seemed like he had already abandoned him to his fate, allowing him to face Marcus’s wrath alone. For some reason, he decided to listen to the voice inside his head, looking back into Marcus’s eyes wit

CHAPTER SIXTY-NINE “I am fine!” Nathan snapped at the waitress, glaring at her.“Just do as you are told!” He added, causing her to nod.“Is that all you need?” She inquired, trying to be certain of the order the Manager had made. Nathan never ordered for food in the restaurant. He had special meals that were to be prepared each day and delivered to him even if he was at home.Everyone who worked in the restaurant knew about this, and that seemed to be among the first things that were said to every new employee that had in the restaurant, especially the kitchen staff.Nathan cleared his throat when he had gathered enough momentum to speak, looking at the waitress. “I also need two bottles of water, and two bottles of red wine.”“But you don’t take wine, Sir.” “Did I tell you that it was meant for me?!” Nathan sparked, forcing the waitress to say that she was sorry while she bent her face to the ground, hands trembling. “Go and get the order! You should be back here in the next

CHAPTER SEVENTY “I have a sick mother, sir!” Nathan begged, falling to his knees. “Please don’t do this to me! I beg you!” He pleaded, grabbing Marcus’s leg with both hands and dropping his head to the ground. “I don’t want to lose my job, Sir! Not now! Not ever!” Marcus scoffed, looking down at him in disdain. “You should have thought about that before you became a pawn to a man as dangerous as Mr. Russell.” “I had no choice, Sir!” Nathan insisted, more tears falling from his eyes. “Mr. Russell is a major investor in the restaurant!” “That’s a lie.” Marcus snapped at him, glaring in disdain. “He is just a regular customer in this place, and I am sure that you should be involved in some kind of shady deals with him for you to fear him this much.” Marcus silenced the ex-Manager at once, looking into his eyes with nothing to show that he was going to change his mind about the decision he made earlier. “Everyone has a choice, Nathan. It just depends on what we decide are
