“How do I look?” Aria’s voice finally resounded from the hallway, causing Marcus to lift his head to look at her.He marveled at how lovely she looked, and at that moment, he forgot that he had been waiting for her for almost an hour. He didn’t even realize that his mouth was wide open, staring with his eyes seeming like they were about to bulge from their sockets. “You haven’t said anything about my dress.” Aria insisted as soon as she got closer to him, looking him in the eyes. Marcus finally snapped out of his mood, and then he moved his eyes from her hair down to her heels. “You look breathtaking, Aria!” He chuckled, nodding in approval. That was the first time he had seen his sister like that, and he didn’t mind seeing more of her in that manner. He took a deep breath, and reminded her that they were running late, he put forward his hand right in front of her.“Shall we? It would be very rude of us to attend the party when everyone is ready to leave.” Aria snickered at the

CHAPTER SEVENTY-TWO “But I was invited,” Marcus insisted, but it seemed like the more he spoke, the more he angered the guards, especially the more muscular one, Sly. “My father was supposed to attend this party, but he asked me to come in his place. I am telling the truth.” Marcus’s voice had changed, laced with a little annoyance. But it didn’t look like his demeanor was going to change anything, especially since the guards had already made up their minds not to let them in. “Turn around and walk away with your girlfriend.” Jack pointed, scowling at Marcus who shook his head, and then he pointed at Aria.“She is my sister. We are both here for the party.”“We don’t care!” Sly snapped at him, showing him his clenched fists.“I don’t mind beating up kids if I have to! I was given specific instructions by Mr. Pitcher not to let any kids or miscreants into this place. Don’t be a pain in my pass.” “But…” Marcus suddenly decided not to speak again. He looked at the guards one after t

The guards turned to see who that was, including Aria.“Mr. Duke!” The young lady sighed heavily as soon as she saw the old man, a beam replacing her drained expression. “Were you paid to embarrass special guests?!” Duke roared, moving toward Marcus while he scowled at the guards one after the other. “Mr. Duke?” Sly cleared his throat, attempting to get rid of the clog that gripped him.“This is not a special guest. He is just some nasty kid who is playing silly pranks.” Slap! Slap! Another slap!“How dare you?!” Duke growled at Sly, causing him to stagger backward as a result of the slap that left his face red.“Do you know who you just called nasty?!” The old man turned to Jack, and that alone sent him staggering backward, afraid that he was going to receive his own rounds of slaps.“I gave you a specific instruction, morons! I told you that the heir to the Trevor Conglomerate was coming! And what did you do?!” He snarled, his eyes firing shots of fury at the guards.“You embarra

CHAPTER SEVENTY-FOUR “That does not change the fact that they were not supposed to treat you that way. I should have had them whipped for their actions.” Duke grunted, his eyes sparking in a rage.“I think we have punished them enough, Mr. Duke,” Marcus said calmly, and then he began to look around the hall.It was hard to look at anyone in particular in the hall, all the guests moving around in style and poise. “I should take you to see Mr. Pitcher. He is expecting you.” Duke suggested, and as soon as Marcus nodded, he led the way through the crowd with both Marcus and Aria following right behind him. Just as expected, everyone who set their eyes on Marcus and his sister had to blink twice to be certain that they could see clearly. It could have been very easy to ignore Marcus’s presence because he was coming of age even though he was still a very young man, but Aria’s presence sparked some reactions. She was the youngest person in the hall, but she didn’t care about all of that,

CHAPTER SEVENTY-FIVE Sheila made herself very comfortable next to the young man she was beginning to admire, and then she extended her right hand toward him, holding onto her smile. “It’s nice to meet you, Sheila.” Marcus obliged the lady, and then he maintained the smile all over his face, his eyes turning to face the old man. “You have a very beautiful granddaughter.” He said calmly, looking the old man in the face.“I am so glad that you think so, Master Marcus.” The old man chuckled softly, and then he looked at the hands of the two of them.He felt so much delight when he saw that they were both holding hands. “I think you should show Mr. Marcus around, Sheila. You can take him to the gallery inside the building.” “That’s a wonderful idea, Grandpa.” Sheila chuckled softly, and then she turned to face Marcus without getting rid of her smile. “Come with me, Mr. Trevor. Will you?” Marcus slowly turned to look at Aria, showing reluctance. “Don’t worry, Young Master. I will be

CHAPTER SEVENTY-SIX “I think you should let go of my hand, Miss Pitcher.” Marcus finally found his word, looking her in the eyes. “This is beginning to hurt me.” He expressed his discomfort, his eyes looking down at his right hand. “Oh. I am so sorry.” Sheila apologized at once, but the fact that she was still holding onto Marcus’s hand was surprising to him.“I didn’t even realize that I was hurting you, Master Marcus.” She explained, still holding onto his hand as though her life depended on it.Marcus arched his brows, and after he had cleared his throat, he grabbed her right hand with his left hand and set himself free, pulling off his right hand from her grip. “You were hurting me.” He complained with a contorted expression, looking her in the eyes as though he was trying to find out if she was intentionally doing what she was doing. But it was very hard to tell, especially since she had an impeccable look on her face, showing no signs of guilt at all.“I am so sorry.” Sheila

CHAPTER SEVENTY-SEVEN “You painted this?” Marcus couldn’t stop his eyes from widening as he stared at the painting from afar, inching closer without even realizing it.He gasped the moment he was close enough to the painting, his eyes refusing to blink as he stared at the semi-nude painting of a lady in a short skirt with a basket of apples on her head. The background of the painting was a Greenland, and the sky was properly represented.“This is absolutely beautiful!” He said, unable to hide his amazement.“You are greatly talented!” He added with a confident smile, causing the young lady to chuckle softly.“Thank you so much, Master Marcus,” Sheila chuckled again, and it seemed as though her soft-spot for the young heir was increasing.“At least someone except my mother thinks I am an amazing artist.”“Why not?” Marcus retorted, forcing himself to take his eyes off the painting. “Who wouldn’t?” He inquired, and that was when he saw the gloom that was etched all over her face. “

CHAPTER SEVENTY-EIGHT Finally, the man they were left with no other choice to wait for showed himself, tall and handsome, and clad in a well-tailored white suit. “There you are!” he said as soon as he got closer to Sheila, and then he turned to look at Marcus, his eyes sparking with disdain. “Who is this, Sheila? Is he your bodyguard?” He asked, his voice reeking of so much arrogance. Sheila gasped, turning to Marcus with a sorry face. “What are you doing here, Luke? How did you even find me?” She asked, her voice laced with so much annoyance and impatience. “Your grandfather told me that I could find you here, Sheila.” Luke pointed out, causing the young lady to gasp, her eyes widening in surprise. Then she cleared her throat, suddenly getting rid of the thought that was trying to force its way into her mind. At that moment, Marcus suddenly felt like he had walked into a trap, but since nothing had been proven to him yet, he decided to remain calm until he was able to confi

CHAPTER SEVENTY-NINE “Luke!” Sheila called out to him, but he refused to stop, his steps increasing as he looked at Marcus with hatred in his eyes. “What are you doing?!” She became nervous, making a quick move.“I am trying to get rid of this lunatic!” Luke growled, lifting his right fist with anger. However, it was surprising to him that Marcus had refused to flinch even when he stood before him, glaring in contempt. "You don’t look afraid, boy. You should actually.” He growled, and then he turned to Sheila who was standing right beside him.“I see your bodyguard is not scared of me.” He grunted, his eyes sparking with annoyance. “That’s a good thing.” He remarked, holding onto a wry smile while he returned his gaze to Marcus, looking him right in the eyes. “At least I am sure that my wife is in the right hands….”“I am not your wife! I can never be!” Sheila snapped, but it seemed like the more she tried to dissuade Luke from referring to her as such, the more he did. It was

CHAPTER EIGHTY Luke scoffed, his eyes turning to look at Sheila while he maintained the smirk all over his face.“Did you here that?!” He sniggered, shaking his head while he looked her in the eyes.“This lunatic just said that you don’t want me, Sheila! He doesn’t know what he is talking about!” Luke sniggered again, and then he turned to look at Marcus, instantly replacing his amusement with a glare. “Of course, she wants me!” He nodded to affirm his words, still reeking of so much arrogance. “Everybody wants Luke Abel, and Sheila is so lucky that I have chosen her to be my wife! There are a whole bunch of women I could have chose to be with, but I decided to give her that special privilege of being her partner.” Marcus grunted, and at that moment, he was beginning to wonder what Sheila must have been through in the hands of the man. “Is this the way you treat women?” He was forced to ask, but it didn’t look like the man was going to give him any response. “You should let go o
