Chapter 61. A Strange Military Interferes
From nowhere, a voice drifted down from above, cutting through the tension. “Am I late to the party?” Elias smiled before he even looked up. Then he tilted his head slowly, lifting his gaze toward the rooftops, already knowing who it was. On one of the high rise buildings, at the edge of a broken stone was Vanessa. She was dressed head to toe in black, like a mercenary. Elias smirked. “You always show up when things get interesting.” Vanessa laughed softly, glancing down at the bodies scattered below. “You didn’t have to start without me,” she teased. “You’re having all the fun alone.” On seeing Vanessa, the remaining men stiffened in fear. At the same time, the henchman’s face drained of color the moment he recognized Vanessa. At first, his mind refused to accept it. He stared at her like she was a ghost and the more he stared, the more confused he got. What was more confusing was that she looked healthy, neither was she trapped as he had thought. At that moment, it dawned on
62. Not Your Savior..
Elias slowly raised his head, and for a moment, he couldn’t see anything clearly. The blinding white light from the jet’s landing lamps flashed straight into his eyes, illuminating the whole alley. Then one of the jets lowered itself closer and touched down with a heavy thud. After that, the engines slowly died down, then the side door opened. Moments later, a young lady stepped out dramatically, then paused at the edge of the ramp, staring through the whole arena. She wore a military uniform that fitted her prefectly, with a pair of dark shades. Her hair was pulled back neatly. She glanced through the arena again, then starres walking down the ramp. Behind her, soldiers poured out in groups with their Weapons raised. They spread out quickly, forming a loose circle with every gun pointed toward Elias and the henchman. Meanwhile, Elias still couldn’t make out who it was as the light from other roaring nearby jets was still shining right in his eyes. Vanessa stiffened beside Elias.
63. An Old Flame vs Current Flame
The henchman was stunned for half a second, then anger flared through him. He laughed harshly and pointed at Elias. “You’ve got it backwards,” he snapped. “This man slaughtered hundreds! Look around you! Arrest him.” He gestured wildly at the bodies. “Me? Yes, I kill. I harvest organs. I survive. That’s the underground. But him?” He jabbed a finger toward Elias, his voice rising. “He’s a beast. A monster. And you’re going to let him walk free while you put cuffs on me?” Ivy’s eyes stayed on the henchman for a moment longer, then she turned back to Elias. Elias met her stare and lifted both hands slightly, his shoulders rising and his face settling into an innocent look like he had no idea what any of this was about. Ivy let out a sharp breath. “You’re unbelievable.” then she turned back to the henchman and snapped an order. “Take him.” Two soldiers grabbed the henchman immediately. The moment their hands locked onto him, the confidence drained from his face.“No—wait!” he shouted,
64. Found Him!
Elias didn’t get the chance to say anything else. Just as the tension between Ivy and Vanessa reached its peak, his phone vibrated in his pocket. His expression shifted instantly as he reached for his phone and glanced at the screen. It was a message from Jim, his trusted private investigator. He was a friend from college and a very qualified hacker. He had tasked him to hack into the forum of the organization and find out the anonymous person who had placed the bounty on his head. The message was short. Found a connection. Name: Caleb Vorn. Elias’s jaw tightened instantly. Vanessa noticed the shift immediately. “What is it?” she asked, stepping closer. “What happened?” Elias didn’t answer right away. His eyes stayed on the screen, rereading the message. Then he locked the phone and slipped it back into his pocket. “Excuse me,” he said quietly. Ivy frowned. Vanessa opened her mouth to ask again, but Elias was already walking off, putting distance between them. They both watch h
65. The Nasty Reunion
The hotel hosting the reunion was pure luxury. Bright lights shone from the glass walls, making the whole building glow in the night. Everything looked clean, shiny, and expensive. Massive pillars stretched at the entrance, giving the building a powerful, high-class presence. A long red carpet stretched from the doors to the driveway where luxury cars of all kinds lined up. A taxi pulled up near the curb. The driver glanced at Elias once, then at the hotel again, clearly wondering if he’d stopped at the wrong place. Elias paid, thanked him, and adjusted the collar of his jean jacket. No suit. No watch flashing wealth. Just jeans, boots, and a jacket. Elias stepped out and started walking. As he walked toward the entrance, he spotted familiar faces. Three classmates stood near the doors, laughing loudly. Two men and a woman, all dressed sharp. One wore a tailored suit, another had a designer blazer thrown casually over his shoulder. Their girlfriends stood close in high heels, fl
66. Who Dares To Mess With My Man?
The laughter hadn’t even fully died down when the doors to the banquet hall opened again. Then the sound of heels clicking against the floor grabbed all the attention, making all heads turn one after another toward the direction of the door. Then a woman walked in majestically. It was Vanessa. Whispers exploded everywhere. “Wait… is that not Vanessa Alphonsus?” “The Alphonsus family? That Vanessa?” “No way…” She stopped a few steps inside the hall, her eyes sweeping the crowd before settling on Elias. Then she smiled dangerously. “So,” she said clearly, her voice slicing through the tension, “is this what passes for success now? Grown men recycling the same old jokes just to feel on top for five minutes?” The words landed hard. A few people shifted uncomfortably, while aomeone cleared their throat nervously. Marcus and Collins who had been leading the mockery stiffened. Vanessa took another step forward. “Because from where I’m standing,” she continued, “it looks like two ins
67. Finally We Meet, Caleb
It was Caleb Vorn. He leaned on the door near the entrance, taking it all in. He wore a tailored suit that fit like it had been measured twice, an expensive watch that caught the light with every slight movement of his wrist, and an arrogant tilt of the head that said he expected the world to bow when he walked in. He had come late on purpose. On his arm was a woman dressed just as deliberately. Her outfit screamed money. It was perfectly cut, impossible to ignore, and her heels clicked with confidence against the floor. Her face was framed with heavy makeup, all for the sake of making a statement. Together, they paused there for a second longer than necessary, letting eyes find them. The truth was, Caleb Vorn, the man Elias had been waiting for wasn’t just anyone random. He was Vanessa’s ex-fiancé. They had been close to getting married. Families were involved. Dates had been discussed. Everyone already spoke about it as if it was settled. Then, without warning and without e
68. We Found Mr Anonymous
Caleb’s reaction was instant and explosive. His face darkened and his jaw tightened like someone had just insulted his entire bloodline. “What nonsense is this?” he snapped, his voice loud enough to draw every eye in the room. “Have you lost your damn mind?” Everyone in the room stiffened. Truth was, Caleb genuinely have no idea a bounty existed. However, Jim’s investigation had traced the bounty trail to his identity because someone in his family had done it. A high-ranking military figure had cloned his identity perfectly with the same credentials, the same signature patterns and same digital shadow, making it look like Caleb had done it but it wasn’t him. Yet Caleb didn’t care about clearing his name. Not even a little. What mattered to him at that point was the humiliation of being questioned like this in public by his ex-fiancée’s nobody boyfriend. To him, Elias was someone who shouldn't be allowed to breathe the same air as him, let alone stand in front of him and accuse hi
69. A Scene To Watch
Vanessa couldn't bring herself to entertain what Elias was saying anymore. She shook her head in frustration. “Elias, please,” she said, her hand tightening on his arm. “This isn’t how power works,” she said quietly. “You don’t need to spill blood in front of everyone to be respected. You are already respected by the people who matter.” But Elias didn’t flinch. Then his hand tightened on the dagger. “You’re wrong,” he said calmly. “This is exactly how power works.” Vanessa stared at him, desperately starching for his face, hoping to find hesitation, but Elias wasn't willing to back down. “For too long" he continued "Too many people thought they could come for me quietly. They think they could place a price on my head, send hunters, assassins, mercenaries, then sit comfortably behind names and influence... Not anymore.” Caleb swallowed hard, his earlier confidence melting into shallow breaths. “I’m not doing this because I enjoy it,” Elias went on. “And I’m not doing it because
70. The Shootout
One would have thought Elias will falter amidst the brewing chaos, but he didn't as much as give a glance. Not when the helicopters settled into position. Not when the armored vehicles filled the whole arena. Despite the chaos, his hand stayed steady and his eyes remain fixed on Caleb. The only one who truly reacted was Vanessa. She looked from the windows back to Elias, fear overwhelming her completely. “Elias,” she said urgently in a low voice, “this has gone far enough. Look outside. This won’t end well. Please, let’s stop here and leave.” But Elias didn't flinch. He simply looked at Vanessa. “I’m not leaving,” he said coldly. On hearing that, Caleb let out a short, satisfied laugh. “Be my guest,” he said smugly. “You heard him. He wants to stay.” he said cocky. At that point, the rotors from the choppers shifted and the downdraft pressed down harder. Then a voice boomed in a megaphone, from one of the choppers, cutting through the night. “All individuals are to drop their wea
