#41: Overlord Shadows
"Silly boy, so easy to manipulate." She lied to herself. He had seen through her, [Swordsmen], even young ones, were often like that. Lirien wasn't sure what her mother would have done, but stopping Kael from going to the Guild had been more for his sake than Rhys's. No matter what, Rhys was going to be kept as a blacklister. If Kael got in the way… even she didn't know how her mother would have handled him. She just hoped that her mother was too distracted with Rhys to have noticed Kael's class change. Lirien paced. Despite her condition, it still helped her mind to settle. Then she peered out, spying on the place where she'd left things in motion for Rhys to get blacklisted. Then she winced. "Oh, Sab, you really are too good at your job." ~ Sabrina, the head receptionist of Vyrnport, had come back to her shift to find her entire Guild upturned. A blacklisting was going to happen, and at realm 1 no less. Somehow,
#42: Epic Ascension
《Now entering a safe zone 15 minutes remaining until you are forcefully ejected from the safe zone. Realm 1 -> Realm 2 achieved!》 His body coursed with power. The change from the increase in realm was instant. Rhys felt the aches, bruises and exhaustion simply melt away. It was nothing like a potion. The burst in vitality simply made every bit of damage he'd taken lesser, he was just far healthier than he had been. It was heady, even more so than his previous realm upgrade it was- He took out his soulsword and began going through sword forms in the white room. Step forward, slash, [Twin Strike] 《S achievement reward: All Trial skill levels increased according to achievement rating! [Twin Strike] level increase! [Phantom Step] level increased!》 The second stab appeared a little to the side of his blade, a secondary spectral knife stabbing alongside his own. [Twin Strike] was now level 6. Even at realm two, the level meant that the sec
#43: Midnight Allies
The snoring stopped suddenly. That was all the warning he got. Something flickered in the corner of his vision. An object flew at him. Rhys tilted his head out of the way, then realized how slow the projectile was moving. He snatched the flying plate in midair. "Barry, I'm not in the mood." "It's the best time to catch people by surprise." Rhys gave the bastard of an orc a hollow laugh, then he leaned back on the couch, arms reclined. Rhys spread on the couch, head on the backrest of the couch. Arrogantly daring the orc to try something else. The orc just scoffed. "You have the look of a real soldier now." "Thanks," Rhys replied sarcastically, "guess you would know." Barry scratched at a tusk, not taking it as the insult Rhys had intended. "Thought you wanted to be an adventurer." Rhys laughed coldly. "Yeah, I think I've killed more people than anything else actually… Even t
#44: Family Deception
Rhys took a deep shaking breath. It wasn't that he was out of breath from jogging for two hours. It was more the fact that he was about to meet his maker. He knocked on the door of a fairly worn-down house. It wasn't his childhood home. They had to downsize to something cheaper. He still blamed himself for that. At least the neighborhood wasn't terrible. Early risers were out and about, going through their morning routine. The birds chirpin- The door flung open. "Rhys Artisan! What the hell is wrong with you?! We were worried sick!" The shouting was loud enough for the entire neighborhood to hear. His mother, Mrs. Robinson, cared little for the looks as she glared at her son, hands on her hips, demanding answers. Rhys cleared his throat, more nervous about this than fighting the Bone Sovereign. "I wanted to say sorry in person. Can I come in?" His mom narrowed her eyes. He had expected more yelling and maybe even
#45: Viral Monster
The video was titled: 'Dawn of Artisan' It started off with Garbolt. "Today we're going to hunt the most evil first realm blacklister in the Guild's history. He is a true villain. A dangerous S achiever and a team killer. He has taken the life of a talented adventurer, a child of dragonslayers! Kael! We hunt this monster for you!" Oh no. Garbolt heroically stepped into the portal without looking behind him. The video playing the tune of a familiar rising beat. It was the tune of dawn of the adventurers. Lute, harmonica, soothing taps on wooden drums. It started off embodying the quiet rise of adventurers in the wake of a devastating war with the Overlords. No more soldiers. Just adventurers fighting monsters and securing The Dominion for the mortals. Then it switched views. The twang of the percussion snapped as it displayed Rhys in his full [Infiltrator] fitment. The lower half of the hood showing a sinister, psychotic gri
#46: Sapphire Confrontation
The heroic [Oracle] put her gauntleted arms around the three young adults as she gave the biggest smile to Barry. "Who are these cuties then?" Her voice wasn't much quieter with her mouth right next to their ears. Rhys was certain he'd have hearing damage if he were still a normal mortal. Clara and Milock were definitely dazed as their eardrums popped and they looked at a celebrity of old. Barry had his hands blocking his ears. "Goddamnit, Seff. I'm going to have to move again if you keep standing out there." "Ah, but what a shame it'd be if you had to move from this…" Seffara looked around and gave the surrounding neighborhood a look of disgust. "Place." Rhys looked at the two jousting friends… they were probably friends. Seffara's face was awfully close to his, and his heart was beating a hundred miles an hour. Not out of awe but out of nervousness. A ninth realm adventurer like her could definitely hear it… could she hea
#47: High-speed Revelation
Seffara was incredulous about his encounter with the Arbiter, she didn't seem surprised at the soldiers but stopped him when he got to the Witch Overlord. "Oh, Arbiter’s Void. Stop talking." "I'm not lying." "I didn't say you were. Just shut up." Seffara stepped out of her truck and closed the door behind her. The cars that were going around her truck stopped honking at her as they realized who she was. Then Seffara leaned down and lifted her truck. It went up one side, then leveled as she stood underneath it. Then, the truck started moving. Seffara the Sapphire started sprinting down the highway with her truck over her head. Rhys turned to the old orc. "What the fuck, Barry?! Why didn't you tell her beforehand?!" The scenery outside the truck was moving at speed. Possibly, probably as fast as a plane. Barry gripped at a handle above him. "That's why I wanted to meet at her place. Goddamnit Sef
#48: Reckless Reflections
After-action assessments were an adventurer's standard. They were one of the best ways for higher realm adventurers to get involved in your development without achievement penalties. Hell, if you were feeling particularly ballsy, you could post your actions and videos online and have a hundred little internet gremlins giving you their dissertations and analyses of why you were wrong and why you should feel bad about every decision you made. Of course, Rhys's success in his Trials showed that he was a step above those armchair analysts. …It was probably karma that his first after-action report was being done in front of Seffara the freaking Sapphire. And his friends were watching. Yeah, this was definitely karma for the stuff he'd typed when he was younger. He looked at Barry. The orc seemed to have a lot of influence over the heroine of old. "Do Clara and Milock need to be here?" "Always good to get more opinions.
#49: Legendary Suspicions
He continued his story, he described his encounter with Lirien. This was where Seffara had told him to stop talking in the truck. The [Oracle] interrupted him again. "This is where your story becomes a little too absurd. Legends don't just pop out of nowhere. It's much easier to believe that you're lying to cover your ass." It sounded like Seffara was saying it more to reassure herself more than anything. Rhys wished he were lying out of his ass. "It has to be a Legend. Even an Epic boosted [Fireball] by a dragonslayer reduces to basically nothing if it passes into a levelled zone. Lirien can create a perfect illusion of herself, with sounds and images from far away. The only thing that explains it is a Legendary skill." That was Rhys's full analysis after all his encounters and a bit more research online. The whole table sat in silence as they took the idea in. Legendary illusion magic, it was hard to contemplate. Seffara shook her
#50: S-Grade Rewards
Skills were the defining factor among lower realm adventurers. At the level Rhys was operating at, active skills were basically special moves you reserved and utilized at key moments. Passive skills were the ones that visibly differentiated you as an [Infiltrator] from other [Infiltrators]. "Actually, before skill selection." Milo groaned. "Oh, come on." "Before my skill selection, we have to go over my realm rewards for S grade achievements first." It was satisfying watching everyone's reactions. Seffara stopped her drink midway, then noticed him smirking at her reaction and scowled. Milock's eyes grew wide, and Clara… was still deep in thought. Barry didn't show any reaction, but there was no way the old orc wasn't impressed. 《Due to your achievement rating, you may choose which reward to receive among the following S-grade rewards: An additional Trial skill point allocation Upgrade an existing piece of equipmen
