CHAPTER 51
Jake's face lost every trace of color the very instant Lucas uttered those words. It was as though every drop of blood had drained from his body in a single moment, there was only one question echoing repeatedly inside his head. How? How could Lucas possibly know?Jake had been extremely careful. He had spoken only to the house agent, and the agreement to sell the mansion had barely begun. Yet Lucas had spoken with such confidence, almost as though he had been standing there watching the entire transaction unfold with his own eyes.Jake slowly lifted his head, the moment he did, he realized that everyone in the room was staring directly at him, Maya's eyes were fixed on his face, her parents were no different, both of them looked completely stunned, Ordinarily, Maya's parents would never have entertained Lucas's words. They had always believed Jake without question. But something was different today. It was Maya's silence, she wasn't defending Jake, Instead, she simply stood there, un
CHAPTER 52
Maya's father stood frozen where he was, his lips trembling slightly as he stared at Jake. His mind struggled to reconcile the truth with the image of the generous, successful son-in-law he had admired so much. Finally, he found his voice."Jake..." he called, but his voice cracked before he cleared his throat and tried again. "Jake, explain something to me."Jake slowly raised his head, forcing a weak smile onto his face despite the anxiety raging inside him."Yes... Father?" he replied, trying to sound composed. The older man's brows knitted tightly together as he took two slow steps toward him."Why?" he asked, his voice filled with genuine confusion. "Why did you sell the house?"Jake opened his mouth to answer, but no words came.Maya's father continued before he had the chance."You looked us in the eyes only a few hours ago," he said, disappointment creeping into his tone. "You told us that the mansion merely needed maintenance. You insisted that we should move back here for a
CHAPTER 53
Truthfully...She still did not understand Jake's reasoning herself.Even so, she forced herself to continue defending him."He simply wants to buy you an even better mansion," she said. Her mother looked utterly bewildered."Another mansion?" she asked.Maya nodded and said."Yes."Her father rubbed his forehead."So he sold an eight-hundred-million-dollar mansion for five hundred million..."He stared directly at Jake."...just so he could buy another one?"Before anyone could continue the discussion, Lucas quietly turned away from them all.Lucas did not say a single word as he reached the corner of the sitting room where Maya's parents' luggage had been carefully stacked after they returned from the mansion. His expression remained calm and unreadable, making it impossible for anyone to guess what was going through his mind. For several seconds, everyone simply watched him.Maya frowned deeply before taking a cautious step forward."Lucas," she called, her voice filled with confus
CHAPTER 54
Slowly, Jake raised both of his fists. He glared at Lucas with eyes filled with hatred."You've gone too far, Lucas," Jake said through clenched teeth. "You have disrespected my family, embarrassed my fiancée, and humiliated me."He took another deliberate step forward, never taking his eyes off Lucas."For everything you've done today," Jake continued, his voice growing colder with every word, "I'm going to teach you a lesson that you'll never forget."Lucas remained exactly where he stood. His posture was relaxed. Both hands stayed folded comfortably behind his back, and there wasn't the slightest trace of fear on his face.Jake pointed a finger directly at Lucas."The last time I beat you," he said proudly, "you couldn't even walk properly afterward."His lips curled into a cruel smile."This time," he declared confidently, "I'm going to make sure you don't walk at all."Everywhere was silent.Maya's parents looked from Jake to Lucas anxiously.Despite everything that had happened,
CHAPTER 55
Jake had expected Lucas to panic. He had expected him to throw random punches into the air.He had expected him to stumble blindly around the room.Instead...Lucas remained perfectly still. That unexpected calmness irritated Jake even more. With a loud roar, Jake swung his fist directly toward Lucas's face."I'll break your jaw first!" Jake yelled confidently.However...The instant Jake's fist was only inches away...Lucas tilted his head ever so slightly. The punch sliced harmlessly through empty air.Jake's fist continued forward with tremendous force before he almost lost his balance."What?" Jake exclaimed in surprise as he hurriedly regained his footing. He spun around immediately.Lucas had not moved more than a single step.He still stood there with both hands behind his back. The blindfold remained firmly tied across his eyes. The sight made Jake frown."It was luck," he muttered to himself. "Nothing more than luck."Without giving Lucas another second, Jake rushed forward a
CHAPTER 56
Lucas slowly untied the strip of cloth that had been covering his eyes and pulled it away from his face. The rain continued to pour heavily outside, and as he blinked a few times to adjust his vision, his eyes immediately landed on Maya, her parents, and Jake lying helplessly in the thick mud outside the doorway.Their expensive clothes were soaked beyond recognition. Mud clung to every part of their bodies, making them look miserable and completely humiliated. Jake remained completely motionless where he had landed after Lucas' powerful kick had sent him crashing through the doorway.Lucas looked at the pitiful scene for several seconds before letting out a scoff."Good riddance," Lucas said calmly, shaking his head slightly as though he had simply gotten rid of an unnecessary disturbance. His voice was that of irritation not anger. He turned away from the doorway without another glance at them and shifted his attention toward the young salesman from the pet store, who was still st
CHAPTER 57
Maya covered her face in embarrassment."This is unbelievable."Rainwater continued pouring over all three of them.Their expensive clothes had now become completely unrecognizable beneath layers of mud.Their shoes had nearly sunk into the wet ground.Even their hair looked terrible. At that same moment...Lights began appearing from nearby houses.Curious neighbors had already witnessed part of the commotion earlier.Now...Many of them stood quietly behind their windows, some carefully pulled their curtains aside, others simply stood on their balconies.Almost every face wore the same expression.Amusement.One elderly woman covered her mouth before laughing."I knew there was something happening over there," she said to the man standing beside her.Her husband chuckled."I didn't expect this."Another neighbor shook his head."They look like they jumped into a swamp."Several people laughed openly. One teenage boy standing upstairs even pointed toward Maya's father."Look at him t
CHAPTER 58
The heavy rain continued to fall as Maya's father drove through the nearly empty streets at a speed he would normally never have attempted. His hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, and his eyes remained fixed on the road ahead. Every now and then, he glanced anxiously at the rearview mirror, where Jake lay across the back seat with Maya supporting him.Jake had finally regained consciousness during the drive, but the color had not returned to his face. His breathing remained labored, and every movement seemed to require tremendous effort. The powerful kick Lucas had landed on his chest had left him in terrible pain, and he could barely sit upright without wincing.Maya wrapped one arm around him to stop him from falling over whenever the car turned."Jake," she called softly, looking at him with worry written all over her face. "Please stay awake. We are almost at the hospital."Jake forced his heavy eyelids open and managed a weak nod."I... I'm awake," he replied in a hoarse v
CHAPTER 59
Unable to control her emotions, she slapped her forehead with the palm of her hand."I don't understand any of this," Maya whispered helplessly. "None of it makes any sense."She leaned back against the chair and stared blankly at the bright white ceiling above her.Her mind replayed everything that had happened since morning.Only a few hours earlier, Jake had looked like a man who had the entire world under his control. Now, however, everything had changed so suddenly that it almost felt unreal. The luxurious mansion was gone.Lucas had legally reclaimed the old house and thrown them out without hesitation.Jake had been beaten unconscious in front of everyone. And now they were sitting helplessly inside a hospital, completely uncertain about what tomorrow would bring.Maya slowly released another exhausted sigh."This can't be real," she whispered softly to herself. "It feels like some terrible nightmare."Throughout all of this, Maya's mother had remained unusually quiet. She had
CHAPTER 60
Lucas slowly opened his eyes. For a few moments, he remained lying on the bed, staring quietly at the beautifully decorated ceiling above him. He slowly pushed himself into a sitting position and leaned comfortably against the padded headboard.A faint smile gradually appeared on his face. His thoughts drifted back to everything that had happened the previous day.He remembered the look of complete disbelief on Maya's parents' faces when he chased them out of his house under the rain. And how he defeated Jake with his eyes covered, the skill he had learnt from prison.Lucas quietly chuckled to himself."I warned him," Lucas murmured softly with an amused shake of his head. "I honestly warned him not to attack me."His smile widened slightly as another memory surfaced. He could still picture Jake wildly throwing punch after punch while he effortlessly avoided every single attack without even lifting his hands from behind his back. Then he remembered the final kick.Jake flying backward.
