Chapter 21: Giving It To Fred
George nodded solemnly. Deep down he wished he was wrong but the truth was glaring straight at him. The contract Arabella had presented had Elena’s signature on it. He knew this because he had seen her signature many times on several contracts he had congratulated others on and her signature had a peculiar “E” to it. His jaw tightened as he had remembered his own vow. He had promised to give up the chair to whoever would get the contract but there was no way he would have predicted that it would have been Arabella who would have won it. “Father…” Fred called out anxiously, he too was having the same thoughts. He glared at Theodore and his family. There was no way he would bow down to them. He had worked too hard to be back beneath his brother. Sienna stepped forward, sending gloating glances their way. “You both thought my daughter was incapable but now, shame on you. Who’s laughing now?” “Quiet woman!” George snapped, his tone made her flinch, shutting her up instantly. “I ha
Chapter 22: The Hidden Clause
Maxwell caught his hand in mid air, applying a little pressure on his grip as he stared at him. Xander winced, his face distorting as he was in unbearable pain. His teeth grinding against each other as he stared into Maxwell’s eyes, his feet turning jelly underneath his hard gaze. “Maxwell,” Arabella muttered softly. “Don’t you try to raise your hand at me again,” Maxwell growled. “Let him go!” George yelled, standing up from his high seat. His face turned red with anger, seeing his favorite grandson being mishandled. Maxwell’s jaw tightened as he released his grip. Xander fell to the floor, holding his hand while crying out in pain. Fred hurriedly went towards him. “How dare you lay your hand on my son?” Maxwell ignored him and turned to face George Zade. George was terrified by the sight of Maxwell’s face, his aura was intimidating and sharp, making goosebumps appear on his skin. “This wasn’t the agreement, old man,” Maxwell growled. “And who… who are you to tell me how to
Chapter 23: Her Price
Arabella’s lips parted as she tried to defend herself but Maxwell tugged at her hands and she glanced up at him and he shook his head. Fred read the contract and felt like the air had been choked out of his lungs. His face turned into a dark scowl as he glared at Arabella. “Theodore, what the hell is this? You made your daughter include a condition into the contract and now we are to pay the Forest Hills Company a compensation?! How vicious can you and your family be?! And now you have the Forest Hills Company backing you all up? How?!” “They must have used other methods to do that!” Xander sneered. “Tell me cousin, did you spread your legs wide for the president?!” Arabella’s eyes widened as her face turned red with anger. “How dare you, Xander?! Has anyone seen the president before? How can you accuse me of such things?!” Maxwell’s lips twitched, his eyes narrowing at Xander, who swallowed hard, stepping back. “I don’t think you have learnt your lesson…” “Well, no one knows wh
Chapter 24: Rude Employees
The next morning, Arabella woke up to the sound of her alarm ringing. Today was the first day of her being the CEO of Zade's group. The strong smell of coffee made her stir awake in her bed. She sat up and came face to face with Maxwell who was carrying a breakfast tray. “Good morning, wife. Did you sleep well last night?” He asked with a smile as he set the tray on a stool nearby. Arabella raised a brow. “Maxwell, what’s this?” “Breakfast,” He replied. “You need to eat healthy for your big day.” Arabella chuckled lightly. “Breakfast in bed. I didn’t know you to be a romantic and Mum didn’t scold you for this?” Maxwell shrugged. “You don’t know a lot about me, wife.” Arabella nodded, pursing her lips. She didn’t really know her husband well enough. They had gotten married in a rush and he had left for the military in just a blink of an eye. Seeing her solemn look, Maxwell frowned. “Don’t look that way. You should be happy, you finally got your company back. Cheer up.” Arabell
Chapter 25: Problems At Zade’s Group
Arabella arched a brow at this and Xander chuckled softly behind her making her glance at him. “The employees have work to do so instead of idly standing here, it is better to clear their desk,” He looked towards his father. “Yes, yes dear,” Fred responded. “Come. I and Xander will personally see you at your office.” Arabella nodded, her jaw tightened as she saw one of the employees staring at her with disgust on her face or was she just overthinking it? Fred and Xander led Arabella into a large office. “Here’s your office. But unfortunately, your secretary and personal assistant called in ill this morning and we haven’t gotten anyone to fill in for them just yet,” Fred said. Arabella stared around the office. The view was great. “Why would they both call in sick?” She arched her brow. “Well, they are humans,” Xander replied, his voice dripping with sarcasm that Arabella didn’t fail to notice. Fred stepped forward. “Since you are here already, I would not want my niece to s
Chapter 26: Rising Suspicions
Arabella glanced at Maxwell apologetically. “It seems I won’t be able to have lunch with you today. The high grade materials for the first phase of the Forest Hills project are missing from the riverside port and now the board members would like to see me.” “How? That’s not possible. You personally saw the transport, didn't you?” “Of course I did and that’s why I’m confused. Oh Goodness, I don’t want Ms. Hatfield to lose trust in me,” She muttered. “She won’t,” Maxwell assured. “Go and fix your problem. We will have lunch some other time.” Arabella nodded, hurriedly taking a file from her desk and leaving. … Arabella stepped into the boardroom looking unfazed and composed. She couldn’t let them see her shatter or they would deem her weak. The eyes of experienced men followed her, judgment on their faces as she took her seat. “Good day, gentlemen,” She said clearly. “As you all know—“ Fred coughed slightly, cutting her short. Arabella raised a brow at him. “Sorry to interrupt
Chapter 27: Missing Materials
Maxwell’s jaw tightened. A dangerous glint appeared in his eyes. Fred and Xander weren't just sabotaging a project, they were stealing from his wife. “Noted.” He ended the call and using a burner phone, he dialed a number. “Look into the previous incident with the Zade's Group transport. I need to know who authorised the change of route.” A static sound came from the other side and within minutes, a man’s voice came from the other end. “It was Xander Zade.” Arabella comes back home late at night. She opens the door and sighs before closing it softly. The lights suddenly turned on, startling her. “Rough day, huh?” She turned around, holding her chest. Her gaze landed on her brother who was sitting on the chair with a beer in hand. She rolled her eyes. “Where have you been all these days, Mike? We have been worried about you!” Mike scoffed. “Worried about me? I don’t think anyone had time to be worried about me when you have finally gotten the job you wanted but now,
Chapter 28: The Manager At The Warehouse
“You look unwell.” Arabella inhaled sharply as she sat on the bed, facing Maxwell who was sitting on the coach. They haven’t consummated their marriage yet and because of Sienna, they couldn’t sleep on the same bed. “Today didn’t go as expected. Fred and Xander are trying so hard to get rid of me. They even offered to find replacements for the materials that were missing.” Because of the dim light in the room, Arabella couldn’t see Maxwell’s deadly expression as he clenched his jaw. “Grandfather gave me 24 hours to find the materials or he would revoke the agreement and besides the Forest Hills Group won’t be able to object if they see me as incompetent.” “You are not incompetent,” Maxwell cuts in. “Don’t think of yourself that way. You’re stronger and smarter than them. I’m sure you will think of a way to solve your problem.” “You think so highly of me and sometimes I feel like I don’t even know,” Arabella chuckled softly. Maxwell smiled slightly. “If it would ease your mind,
Chapter 29: Chaos At The Zade’s
The fool had peed on himself! “I—I have a family. I was only following orders. Please, don’t harm me. You want money?” His eyes widened as a sick smile crept up his face. “You can take the money on the table. Take them all.” However, Maxwell ignored his statement. “Where are the trucks?!” “At the back. They are at the… back.” Maxwell released his grip on him and Barnaby slipped down and crawled a few metres away. Maxwell’s jaw tightened as he glared at the man with disgust written on his face. “Tell your masters not to sabotage my wife’s project again or I won’t spare any of you!” Barnaby nodded and kept nodding even though he didn’t understand this man’s intentions. He was only glad that he was still alive. Maxwell spent no time further with him and went towards the back of the warehouse and there he saw the trucks. … ZADE’S GROUP. Arabella was under immense pressure as she worked round the clock. Reviewing files, statements, CCTV footages and company transactions. She glanc
Chapter 30: A Counter Attack
“George shouldn’t have given her the position in the first place!” “Yes, it should have been Fred!” “Enough!” George yelled, and at once silence returned. His eyes narrowed at them. “Not only did you lose you the materials for the project but you defrauded us and you still do not want to admit to your faults!” “Because I have no fault,” Arabella retorted. “I can see you have finally gotten the courage to speak back at me! Theodore, Sienna, if you two do not put your daughter in line, I will not hesitate to remove your names from the family registry and you will no longer get a penny from us!” At that threat, Sienna’s face twisted into a scrowl as she grabbed Arabella’s arm forcefully, making her wince. “Arabella, tell them the truth and stop lying! You are disgracing us enough! You are bringing shame to this family. If you don’t say the truth right now, I will cut you off from our family and throw you and your pathetic husband out to the dogs!”“Mom, let go of me,” Arabella argue
