Chapter 11: Saving His Wife
BANG! The room door gave way to a heavy pounce, detaching from the metal hold. Nathan, who was advancing towards the almost unconscious Arabella screamed as a piece of wood missed his head by a second. Maxwell stepped into the room, his eyes scanned his surroundings. Arabella was lying on the bed, untouched. Nathan was terrified, holding the walls for support as he stared at him. “I gave you a chance to survive this night, Nathan. It’s seems I was too kind,” Maxwell said with a terrifying tone that made Nathan’s skin crawl, sweat broke out on his forehead. Nathan scrambled to get hold of a lamp beside him. “You… you… how did you get in here?! Security!!!” Maxwell moved faster than the human eye could follow. He grabbed Nathan’s throat and slammed him against the wall, lifting off the floor. The sound of Nathan’s ribs breaking filled the room. “Your security is currently asleep, permanently.” He dragged on the last word, seeing as Nathan’s eyes rolled back in pain and terror.
Chapter 12: Questions
Maxwell’s eyes narrowed on the expected gaze on Sienna’s eyes and it finally dawned on him. She was in cohorts with Nathan! “What did you do?!” He growled, making Sienna take a step back. “Did you also drug her with him?” Sienna swallowed back in fear, shrugging her shoulders as her eyes were everywhere but on Maxwell. “Drugged? Don’t be dramatic, Maxwell. Nathan is a gentleman from a well rich and respected family. If he gave her something to help her relax and make her more agreeable then it was for her own good, she’s just too stubborn. If she had cooperated, our family’s future would have been secured by now!” She reached out to poke at Arabella’s arm but Maxwell shifted making her hand to freeze in the air mid way. “She is your daughter. How could you do this to her?!” Maxwell questioned, his voice rising. “I did what any mother would do!” Sienna snapped back. “I gave her an opportunity with a real man! Now, put her in her room and get out. You have done more than enough. An
Chapter 13: A Wonder
He had said it belonged to his family but she remembered the whole house was being looted before being set aflame and Maxwell didn’t take anything from the house while he was leaving for the army except the bracelet his father had given him during his departure. Just as she was about to question him, the door bolted open. “Arabella, what the hell are you still doing on the bed?!” Sienna screamed out her lungs. “You ran away from the meeting Nathan had arranged for you and you are here in the arms of the man who has ruined our family!” “Mum, what are you saying? Are you aware that Nathan drugged me? Maxwell came just in time before he could do anything to me!” Arabella responded. “And so?!” Sienna hollowed. “You were being stubborn. If only you had arranged to divorce this good for nothing and gotten married to Nathan, none of this would have happened. And now, we have turned into a laughing stock and it’s all your useless husband’s fault!” Arabella’s eyes watered as she list
Chapter 14: Fred’s Viciousness
Arabella held his arm in a comforting manner and Maxwell blinked. Sienna glared at the couple in front of her. With a huff, she walked out, slamming the door behind her. Arabella fell back to the bed, bursting into tears, feeling betrayed by her own family. Maxwell held her as she cried softly on his chest. “It seems we are both orphans now, Max,” She said with a sad laugh. It was the morning of the second day and Arabella’s parents were panicking. George had called them to remind them of the deadline and the consequences. Arabella hadn’t come down from her room either and Maxwell was occupied with trying to make her feel better. Suddenly, furious knocks sounded at the door of the house. Theodore walked towards the door and opened it timidly. Fred and Xander were standing out with sneers on their faces. “What… what are you doing here? Has father sent you here?” Theodore stammered, staring at them both. “Won’t you let us in, brother?” Fred said with a fake smile plastered
Chapter 15: Othniel Waters
“No need to be harsh to us,” Xander retorted. “We aren’t the cause of your problems. Instead of you asking us for forgiveness, you are here spending time with your loser husband. I do hope you all already have a place to stay.” “Dan, let’s go. I think they have all gotten the message,” Fred glanced at his brother, disgust in his eyes. “You still have time left and once that time is up, we will be back and we won’t be alone.” With that, they walked out and slammed the door behind them. Sienna rushed towards Arabella and held her hands with a pleading look in her eyes. “Do not abandon us, Arabella. Please, we need you now.” Arabella hurriedly retracted her hands from her mother’s hold, not looking at her. She glanced up at her father. “I will see what I can do,” She said leaving the living room with Maxwell tailing behind her. … Arabella paced around the room trying to look for the best suit to make her look presentable. Even if she was going to fail, she should at least
Chapter 16: Step Aside!
Othniel blinked as Ashley called out to him and he straightened up. “You don’t have the right to speak to my fiancée in that manner. I was only wondering what a beautiful woman would be doing with a low class like you. Maybe if she was with someone better, her life would have been easier than what I have heard.” Maxwell raised a brow as he listened to him speak. Ashley was enraged. “Othniel, you were supposed to stand up for me and not my cousin!” Othniel ignored her and continued. “Perhaps if she arranged to be my mistress, I can set her up for a meeting with the vice president too.” Ashley’s eyes widened with shock. “What?!” Arabella’s face darkened as she glared at Othniel. “Your mistress? Aren’t you engaged to Ashley?” Othniel’s brows furrowed. “I’m entitled to have any one I want and no one is an exception. Especially seeing you are the one who is in need of help.” Othniel’s smug grin widened as he looked at the gathered crowd. Reporters were nearby, and several oth
Chapter 17: Peniel’s Group
“Hey!” Ashley rushed towards Othniel, trying to get him up. “You have gotten the wrong people. They are the ones causing trouble.” The doors to the company opened and Elena stepped out with a few men behind her. Her aura was intimidating as she stared at the small crowd in front of the entrance. Her eyes landed on Maxwell standing beside Arabella and she gave a small nod which he returned back. She glanced at Arabella with respect in her eyes as she bowed slightly, making the crowd gasp. “Ms. Zade, we have been expecting you. Your contract is ready for signature.” “Did Ms. Elena Hatfield just bow down to that woman?” “Impossible!” The whispers went on. They couldn’t believe the most powerful woman in the city would bow respectfully to Arabella. Arabella was also shocked. She had never met Elena before to warrant such respect, only Maxwell had a neutral expression. Ashley stared at the scene before her, clenching her fists. Dragging Othniel along, she stood in front of Ara
Chapter 18: Othniel On His Knees
Thud! He fell at his feet in front of Maxwell, tears brimming in his eyes. “I don’t know who you are but please forgive me for my actions!” Ashley shrieked with horror as she tried to get him to stand up. “What the hell are you doing, Othniel!? Why are you kneeling in front of him? Stand up!” Othniel angrily pushed her away. “This is all your fault! Because of you, my family is going bankrupt and blacklisted!” “What!” Ashley gasped in shock, glancing back at Maxwell. “But it can’t be because of Maxwell, he's good for nothing! He doesn’t have the connections. It could just be a coincidence.” “You are even more stupid than I thought,” Othniel sneered. Arabella glanced at Maxwell. She had been noticing a lot of changes since he came back and she remembered his earlier words and wondered if he had anything to do with this. “Maxwell, did you do anything?” Maxwell shook his head calmly. “I don’t have a hand in this. I have been standing here with you all day so there’s no way this
Chapter 19: The Contract
Hardin nodded and disappeared into the shadows leaving Maxwell at the entrance of the company with a dangerous glint in his eyes. The Zade’s Residence. “It’s about 10pm and your daughter isn’t here yet, Theodore,” George said with a deep frown on his face as he stared scornfully at his eldest son. Theodore and Sienna stood a safe distance away, their heads hung low as they exchanged worried glances. Fred let out a small laugh. “Father, you didn’t really think that Arabella would make it past the gates did you? Ashley will do us proud, you don’t have to worry too much. I will never let you down.” “Yes, grandfather. You have put too much hope in uncle’s family but they keep taking you for granted” Xander added. George nodded. “I have faith in you, Fred. You have never let me down.” Fred smirked with pride. “Well, the day isn’t up yet so let’s wait for her.” “No!” George sounded. “We have waited enough. She ought to be here a few hours earlier.” He waved a document in
Chapter 20: Suprise, Surpise.
She wasn’t in the right place to tell them about the incident because she was so astonished by the whole situation that she couldn’t even comprehend it. “Hehe, you are definitely trying to cover up your sly tracks by distracting us! Grandfather, check those documents. They have to be fake!” Fred glanced at Theodore with disgust. “It seems that your desperation has caused your daughter to bring in a fake document just to get father’s approval. How low can you and your family go?” Theodore swallowed and drew Arabella to his side. “Bella, please tell me the truth, is the document true or fake?” “Dad, would I ever lie to you?” Arabella muttered. “You saw me when I was leaving with Maxwell. Elena personally came out to invite me into the company. She called us her special guests and she treated me very nicely so I can assure you that the contract is very real.” Sienna’s face brightened up. “You see! This has to be Nathan’s doing! He promised that you would get the contract and yo
