CHAPTER 41 : What If I Helped?
It was a calm morning and the beach was not so crowded. There were people moving around, different types of people and all came for different purposes. Logan and Arielle had decided to come to the beach, actually it had been Logan's idea as he had told Arielle that he would want them to do something different. So he had suggested that they visit the beach. Sitting down close to the water on the warm sand. Both in their underwear, basking in the cool ocean breeze moving softly around them, they observed the people around. There were a few surfers out on the water, riding the waves with ease. There were also couples around, most of them walking along the shoreline while orders were seated just like Logan and Arielle. That wasn't all, there were children too, children running around, chasing each other and laughing Between Logan and Arielle was a small cooler with bottles of juice and a plate of roasted meat wrapped in foil that they had picked up on their way here. Arielle bit in
CHAPTER 42 : First Board Meeting.
The next morning, Logan woke up early. He showered quickly, then stood in front of his wardrobe, after a while he stepped out of the house wearing a simple dark suit coupled with a plain white shirt underneath. Pa Lancaster's mansion was about twenty minutes away. When Logan pulled up to the gate, it was already open. He drove through and parked, then walked up to the main entrance.Pa Lancaster was already in the hallway when Logan stepped inside, fully dressed, standing straight with his walking stick in one hand. The old man looked like he had been up for hours.Oh yes, Logan had noticed that pa Lancaster fancied carrying walking stocks some times, not very often. "You're early," Pa Lancaster said."So are you," Logan replied with a smile. Pa Lancaster smiled faintly and nodded. After that, they walked out together toward the parking lot at the side of the mansion. As they got there, Logan could see five black vehicles already lined up in a neat row. Drivers sat behind the
CHAPTER 43 : New To The Room.
“Ahh! They are here” That was the first thing Logan heard when they walked through the black door. The voice came from a man standing near the center of the room. He was tall, bald, with a wide smile on his face. Looking at him, he was dressed in a sharp dark suit with gold cufflinks and expensive shoes. Mere looking at hom, Logan could tell that this man reeled money. The cost of his shoes alone would be enough to buy the cars of most wealthy people. "Welcome," the man said, spreading his arms slightly. "Logan Lancaster. We have been expecting you."Logan stepped in fully, his eyes sweeping the room.Honestly, It was nothing like he expected. The room was circular. It wasn't the usual square or rectangular shape, it was curved in a way. Logan could see that the ceilings were curved in a wide dome with the walls which were equally curved, it gave the entire space a particular sense of being sealed off from the rest of the world. At the center of the room stood a large round tabl
CHAPTER 44 : Bad News
"As all present are aware," Von continued, "the position of Sovereign Leader has remained vacant for a while now. The Board has operated without a head long enough. The time has come to fill the First Seat."He paused and looked between the Lancaster section and the Blackthorn section."According to the laws of this Board, the right to contest the First Seat belongs to two families in this cycle." Von looked at the Blackthorn section first. "The Blackthorn family." Then he looked at Logan. "And the Lancaster family."The younger man in the Blackthorn section moved for the first time. He sat forward, uncrossed his leg, and rested his arms on his knees.Logan didn't miss his cockiness. "Damon Blackthorn," Von said, introducing him to the room though it seemed like most people already knew him. "And Logan Lancaster." Von gestured between them. "These two will stand for the First Seat." He added. Damon looked across the room at Logan. Then he smiled, a cocky and proud smile. Of cours
CHAPTER 45 : Coma
"Mr. Lancaster?"Hearing this, Logan looked up from the chair he had collapsed into the moment he arrived. A doctor in blue scrubs was walking toward him with a clipboard in hand."Yes." Logan stood immediately. "How is she? Where is she? Can I see her?"Another had been on his mind, while driving here, his mind had been barraged with all sorts of thoughts. The doctor held up a calm hand. "My name is Dr. Felix. I'm the attending physician who handled Miss Shaw when she came in." He gestured toward a quieter corner of the hallway. "Let's step aside."Logan followed him, his jaw tight.Actually when Logan arrived earlier. Dr. Samuel who called him earlier had told him that the attending physician would be with him shortly. "The accident was severe," Dr. Felix said, keeping his voice low. "Therr were multiple impact points on the vehicle. She sustained head trauma, two fractured ribs, and internal bruising." He paused. "We were lucky she was brought in when she was. Any later and th
CHAPTER 46 : I Will Be Gone For A While.
Right now, Logan was sitting in the armchair by the window in his bedroom with a glass of red wine in his hand.He wasn't actually drinking it. He was just holding it, turning the glass slowly as his mind worked through everything. The detective's words kept coming back to him. The detective had clearly said that Arielle's brakes had been deliberately tampered with. He had said that what happened to Arielle wasn't an accident, someone had done this deliberately. Someone had gotten close to Arielle's car and made sure she wouldn't survive the drive to his office. The detective had even gone as far as asking Logan if there was anyone who would want to hurt him or hurt him through her. The thought made Logan's fist clench and then he stared at the floor. The question still remains: Who would want to hurt Arielle?.She was not the kind of person who made enemies, arielle hardly had issues with people and Logan knew this wasn't about arielle.Someone was trying to hurt him through her. A
CHAPTER 47 : I Am Ready
Later that evening, Logan drove to LFH.The hospital was quieter at this hour. The hallways had a low and steady hum to them, there was nothing like the rushed noise of the daytime. Logan could see a few nurses moving from room to room. Logan walked to Arielle's room and pushed the door open.A small smile spread on his lips as he watched. It was a painful smile, the monitor beside her bed keeping its slow and steady rhythm. After watching her for a while, Logan pulled the chair beside her bed and sat down, resting his arms on his knees. He didn't say anything for a while. He just sat there, it was at that exact moment the door pushed open and Logan looked up to see who it was. His eyes narrowed as he noticed who it was..Sandra. Arielle's roomie and best friend.Logan had totally forgotten to inform the lady, and seeing her here meant she had heard the news one way or the other. For her ti vine visiting at this time of the night only meant that She must have been here during the da
CHAPTER 48 : Training Session
The next day Logan was already at the training ground. In front of him was a man. He was average height, compact build, with arms that looked like they were made out of three trunks with a steady and calm look on his face. His face was calm and steady, “Mr Lancaster” the man bowed then extended his hands towards logan “The name is Greg” Logan shook his hand, noticing that the man's grip was firm. Pa Lancaster stood a few feet away, hands clasped behind his back. "Greg has worked with this family before," the old man said. "He's the best I know. You will be in good hands."Greg looked at Logan with a measured expression,"I've heard a lot about you," he said. "Your grandfather speaks highly.""He's biased," Logan said.Greg smiled slightly. "Maybe. But I'll form my own opinion." With that, he turned to one of the staff standing nearby and said something quietly. Logan could see the man disappearing and returning a moment later with a folded set of training clothes. Dark grey, p
CHAPTER 49 : We Will Get It Back.
Dinner that evening was quiet.Pa Lancaster sat at the head of the table, Logan on the other hand sat to his right. The food was simple, it was soup, bread and grilled chicken. The old man didn't ask how training went immediately. He waited until they were halfway through the meal."Greg," Pa Lancaster said. "What did you make of him?""He knows what he's doing," Logan said almost immediately like he had been expecting his grandfather to ask the question. The old man nodded like that confirmed something. "He's never failed anyone I've sent to him." He picked up his glass. "How do you feel?""Like I used muscles I forgot I had." Logan laughed. Pa Lancaster laughed too. "Good. That means it's working."They finished dinner a while later and then Logan got up ready to retire for the night. "Rest properly tonight," Pa Lancaster said. “Tomorrow would be a better day” "I'll try," Logan muttered. Pa Lancaster held his gaze for a moment. "She'll be fine, Logan, don't think too much about
CHAPTER 50 : Day Three (Training) 1
Logan was already on the training ground when Greg arrived. It was morning time and the air was cool. Logan had his arms loose at his sides, breathing steady as he waited for Greg. And it did not take long for Greg to show up. Greg walked in carrying a duffel bag. He set it down against the wall and looked at Logan.“Today is going to be different from the first two days." He unzipped the bag and pulled out two lifting straps. "We're starting with weights."Logan frowned a bit as he saw this. *** ***The rack against the far wall had more on it than Logan had noticed before. There were Barbells, dumbbells, plates all stacked in order from light to heavy.Greg loaded a bar and set it across the squat rack."We're not going for your maximum today, Logan," Greg smiled. "We're going for control under load. There's a difference." He stepped back. "Squat position. Let's see where you are."Logan got under the bar and lowered."Chest up," Greg ordered "Don't let your back round at the bo
