In the bustling road of Brooklyn, Logan appeared utterly fatigued, as he walked out of an Auto repair shop.

His hands were covered in grease, a tool box tucked under his arm and the smell of oil lingered after him.

All that consumed his thought in this very moment was the event that just transpired between him and his boss a few minutes ago.

One moment he was fixing a car and the next moment his boss had called him into the office, only to inform Logan that his services were no longer needed at the garage.

Logan was devastated, his whole world came crashing right before him. When he asked why he was sacked, there was no tangible reason for this action.

Accepting his faith, Logan stepped out of the shop, however, a lot occupied his mind.

How was he going to start living from now on? How was he going to take care of his wife?

Logan was an orphan who had nothing while growing up, he nurtured himself to this stage he was.

This job was the only way he was able to provide for himself and Vanessa, the woman he loved, the woman he had built his world around.

He had always done everything in his power to make her smile and now how was he going to tell her that he had just lost the one job he had managed to secure?.

With his final penny clutched in his pocket, Logan hailed a taxi and left.

His boss's words, still ringing in his ears. “We’re letting you go, Logan.”

When he got to the door of his apartment, Logan paused, his hands shaking as he fumbled with the key, the small box of his belongings still tucked under one arm.

Logan took a deep breath and pushed the door open, he was expecting to hear Vanessa’s gentle voice asking why he was late.

However, what he heard was muffled laughter, one which sounded low, breathless and intimate.

Logan's brows furrowed as he set the box down gently on the floor. He took note of where the sound was coming from; The bedroom.

‘Our bedroom?’ He thought, confusion stirring in his chest.

The laughter he had just heard was that of Vanessa and someone else's, or could it be that he was just imagining things?.

Logan began to move, slowly, each step heavier than the last, his heart beat faster, it was as if his body already knew what this was all about but his heart was still in denial.

The door to the room was slightly ajar and Logan pushed it open with trembling fingers.

The sight before him stole the air from his lungs.

There she was, Vanessa, his very own Vanessa, entangled in the arms of another man. It was not just any man, but her boss; Brent Callaway.

The very one she had spoken of so often, the man she had said was kind and helpful.

Their bodies were pressed together on the bed, it was clear they were just resting after a wonderful round of sex.

For a moment, Logan stood frozen, his legs refusing to move, his breaths were shallow and ragged.

His heart pounded painfully, each beat was as if a nail was driven into his chest.

Logan's lips parted slightly, but no words came out at first. But then he found his voice, though weak and trembling.

“Vanessa,” he called.

His voice sounded soft and wounded, however it was enough to cut through the room like a blade.

Vanessa froze, her head snapping towards the door. Her eyes widened for a split second as they landed on Logan's pale, devastated face which was filled with anger.

However the shock on Vanessa’s face only lasted for a second.

“Why are you home so early?” she barked.

Logan's eyes widened, there was no single remorse in Vanessa’s voice, it was as if she had just done the most natural thing in the world.

This broke Logan's heart even more.

“Is this not that pathetic husband of yours?” Vanessa’s boss didn't bother facing Logan, instead he turned to Vanessa, parting her hair.

She sneered with a disdainful look “of course, who else would it be, this is my wretched husband, the one I have been telling you about”

She said this like Logan was not even present in the room.

On hearing this, Logan almost pounced on her, his eyes twitching with disbelief. Did Vanessa just call him wretched?.

Before he could speak, Brent's laughter rang out in the room.

“This wretched husband of yours surely doesn't deserve a beauty like you” his lips curled into a smirk “How where you able to endure having a pathetic husband like him”

Brent's words were filled with sarcastic remarks as he almost choked with laughter.

“You are right, daddy”, a pet name she usually called Brent “You have no idea how much I have endured being in a marriage with a common mechanic, one who can't even get me all the things I need.”.

“Yeah, yeah, he is such a loser, just take a good look at him.” Brent muttered, another round of laughter rang out of his throat.

Vanessa paused and rolled her eyes at logan “of course he is a loser,”

Logan just stood there, dumbfounded as the both of them ridiculed and mocked him to a point where he couldn't help but get more furious.

“What is the meaning of this, Vanessa, I—”

However before he could finish his sentence, Vanessa sat up quickly and waved her hands at his face.

“Spare me that bull-shit, you are leaching on me Logan, you have nothing to offer me” she paused as if wanting those words to sink into Logan's head “You are worthless and I don't need you anymore, I never did”

Hearing this, Brent, who had already risen to his feet, suddenly burst into laughter.

He was a head taller than Logan and very much muscular.

“Go find yourself something tangible to do with your life, probably shine people's shoes or clean their toilets this time, as for Vanessa, she is mine now.” he laughed.

“You must be put of your mind” logan snapped at brent—”

But before he could continue Vanessa interrupted. “Oh please I won't stand here and watch you insult my man” she glared at Logan.

This made Logan even more furious.

“Are you stupid?” he cursed, “after all I have done for you,you still did this to me?” He yelled, his voice beaming in the room.

Logan's fist tightened and he could feel his fingers digging into the palm of his hands.

He glanced at Brent, the urge of punching the man in the face was rising in him, however Logan knew this part of the world money was what speaks, not the fist.

If he attempts to hit Brent, he might end the rest of the day sleeping in a cell.

“And before I forget” Vanessa beamed, already fully dressed now, she pulled out an envelope from the drawer and tossed it at Logan.

“Here, have this, our divorce papers, I'm done, do yourself the favour and sign those papers.”

Logan couldn't believe his eyes, this had escalated so fast that he never saw a divorce coming. He should have been the one asking for a divorce and not the other way round.

A small laugh escaped Logan's lips “You are such a whore, Vanessa. I should have known better, but anyway suit yourself”

Even after saying this, Vanessa didn't seem to care, she just walked out of the door together with Brent who had his hands around her waist, fondling her ass cheeks as they left.

Now that he was the only one in the room, Logan could feel his anger rising and before he knew what was happening his fists connected to the wall.

Logan punched the wall a few times ignoring the stinging pains growing in his knuckles.

He had done a lot for Vanessa, working his ass off every day just to support her lifestyle.

She was the type who loves material things, expensive dresses, shoes and jewelries, Logan had made sure he provided whatever he could afford for her.

However, right now, he cared less about that, Vanessa had betrayed him, but that wasn't the only reality slapping his face at the moment.

He had just lost his job and now he had also lost his wife.

The next morning Logan woke up, all that happened the previous evening felt like a dream until he saw the divorce papers laying on the ground where he had slept off.

“So it was real afterall” Logan muttered to himself. “Why haven't I signed those papers yet?”

Logan quickly signed the papers and then he decided to go for a stroll. One which was done to clear his mind, and maybe ease his anger a little bit.

After a while, Logan returned to his apartment, his eyes locked on the little children who were busy playing down the street, chasing each other as they played around.

A small smile crept on his lips, however just when he was about to step into the walkway, his eyes suddenly went straight to the mail stand just outside the building.

His eyes narrowed as he pulled out the white envelope tucked into the mail box.

It had a golden stamp which had the name ‘LANCASTER’ written in capital letters.

‘Who sent this?’ Logan thought.

However, just when he was about to open the letter, his phone vibrated. He checked it and saw a message displayed on the screen.

Amidst his confusion and lost mind, he managed to click on it. What he saw almost made his eyes pop out of their sockets.

His account had just been credited with 300 million dollars.

300 million dollars!!

So he had suggested that they visit the beach. Sitting down close to the water on the warm sand. Both in their underwear, basking in the cool ocean breeze moving softly around them, they observed the people around. There were a few surfers out on the water, riding the waves with ease. There were also couples around, most of them walking along the shoreline while orders were seated just like Logan and Arielle. That wasn't all, there were children too, children running around, chasing each other and laughing Between Logan and Arielle was a small cooler with bottles of juice and a plate of roasted meat wrapped in foil that they had picked up on their way here. Arielle bit in

The company, his position, his power, all of it was now in the hands of the Lancasters. He could still remember the smile Bright had on his face while watching as the board members announced that CGT Corporation had been officially sold. He had signed that agreement with Logan. Actually he had somehow thought the Lancasters were here to help. It was only news that CGT was suffering and wallowing in debt. But since there was somehow a way that the Lancasters had figured that out, and when Logan came to propose the partnership, Brent had thought it would be for his own benefit. But Logan had outsmarted him. Logan had destro

The cinema was nearly empty when Logan and Arielle arrived. It was a Tuesday afternoon, and most people were at work or school. The theater was a luxury one. Logan had chosen an action movie, something light and entertaining and Arielle had agreed to it. They sat in the back row with a large bucket of popcorn between them.Arielle reached for a handful of popcorn and glanced at Logan. "You know, I can't remember the last time I went to the movies during the day like this.""Me neither," Logan admitted with a small smile. The last time he had gone to a cinema, it wasn't one as luxurious as this and he had squeezed from his last penny to take Vanessa on that date. "But I figured we both needed a break. No work, just a couple of hours to relax." He added. "I like that," Arielle said softly. "And now there are all these rumors flying around that they might have to shut down completely.""That's what happens when you don't know how to run a business," the older stylist said with a mocking laughter in-between. "My husband works in finance and he said CGT has been making terrible decisions for over a year now. Bad investments and bad management." She added. "Didn't they used to be a big deal?" the younger stylist asked."Of course, they were," the older stylist replied. "But not anymore. Now they're just another company going under. It's sad honestly, really sad. So many people are going to lose their jobs."Hearing all of these, Vanessa felt like the floor had dropped out from under her.
