CHAPTER 31
The air was heavy in the cave and silence ruled the air. Days had passed after the raid on the royal archive, and news had spread that war had been declared. Lady Morrigan and Duke Severin have sent word out to Kael to be careful and be battle-ready, and that his household is in full support.Today, standing by the corner was Kael, clad in a black robe and staring calmly at the small dagger Lady Morrigan had handed over to him. In her last letter as he was far from home now, she had specifically told him to bond with the sword as the battle was near. However, he still couldn't understand what it meant. His mastery of blood magic had also grown, which she commended, and also hailed him for the smart killing of Thane, the so-called Iron Mountain. Her letters were full of praise but above all, she sent new moves to be learned to increase his mastery of blood magic. He was alone in the inner side of the hideout. Elira, on the other hand, was outside, always on the lookout, but the constan
CHAPTER 32
She walked down the lonely path, her heart heavy with pain as she calmly remembered that night. That memory never left her, it haunted her day and night, both in her sleep.Somehow, she always knew he would return, even if she didn't know how, and it didn't make any sense, but she knew, and when she finally saw him, she wasn't completely surprised; she was just scared that a new demon they had made had returned. However, she pledged to serve him all the days left of her life, but his statement before she left made her wonder what he really was and what he wanted. Yes, she knew they all deserved to die, but he granted her mercy? Why? Was it because of her remorse? Was it her pain? Did he see through her? Or did he have some other plans for her? And telling her days were numbered, it only increased the tension burning in her legs. Not just that, moving with them was a complete horror. There was no moment she could ever feel safe around them as they could snap her neck anytime they liked
CHAPTER 33
The air was heavy with chanting and celebration. The whole place was bustling with activities and the crowd cheered endlessly. Unknown to them the danger that was awaiting them. They were too engrossed in false celebrations and had turned their eyes away from justice. No one was asking about what happened at the Royal Archives a few days ago, simply because they weren't affected. The corruption in the city had crept down to every nook and cranny of the place, moving down to every heart and being passed on from generation to generation.Lady Morrigan and Duke Severin were supposed to be part of the nobles in attendance at this event, but couldn't as they had declared war through Kael anonymously on the capital. However, the view was ecstatic and foods and drinks were passed round, children, women, men servants, animals, they were all rejoicing as everything was in plenty, just the same corruption and evil was in excess. These were things Master Rendall would never tolerate if he were s
CHAPTER 34
The air was heavy with pain as screams from the very nobles erupted. The same shadows they had hidden and killed, locked behind enchanted chambers, were now free and lunged in full attack on them. The language of the day was blood, no peace, violence was met with all of them, and their sins were all remembered, and today was a day of punishment. It was a full-blown and sc, reams from the silly crowd erupted and shook the place. Everyone ran for cover, helter-skelter and scattering their stuff on the floor. The ground beneath them shook with rage, the blood of the so-called comrades they had ended their lives was now angry and seeking vengeance, calling on their names, the same people that should have fought for justice for them, but went on drinking and merrying while they suffered, today, they'll pay.The scene was soothing for the two fellows behind it all as they watched the shadows paint the whole place black.Kael's face glowed with a warm evil smile, and his hands clenched harde
CHAPTER 35
The air was heavy as he stopped in the room, his aura unmatched and his soul burning with rage. Elira, on the other hand, sto stood by his side, a warm smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she stared at the table. His mind was still filled with joy from the last raid on Marcus. Words had spread of his tyranny and, so fast, the same people who praised him and worshipped him like a God immediately turned their backsson him when he needed them the most. War was waged on him now, he; hislaration was open and, he knew, Kal wasn't mincing words and, he also meant business when he swung his sword.Elira, on the other hand, had been enjoying the scenes. The cries and pain of the people were real; her long wait for vengeance on the capital that threw her out, and, of course, working with Kael made her dreams come true. With a soft chuckle, she turned over and studied the map carefully, alongside him, their connection growing each passing day.His face was always calm while her face wa
CHAPTER 36
The air was heavy with potions as they all stood in anticipation for the big reveal. Kael's face glowed with power and a strange energy. He moved with precision, muttering calm words as he circled the pot. His hands glowed with shadow flames and the air around them grew thicker. The curtains waved violently as the whole place was growing windy. But he remained calm, focused on the magic and calmly executed it.He turned to Elira sharply, his face stern and so was his voice.“Get me the last…” he didn't even finish when she rushed over with a vial. It was a venom, extracted from Thane, alongside his blood, for strength in magical procedures. Though he was dead, the blood of the iron mountain, if used by the right and skilled sorcerers, could produce men like him once again. And with a loud cry, his voice above the roof and the potion exploded into the whole place, staining them all and he smiled. Immediately, he rushed to the massive mirror inside, his breath shuddering and his magic
CHAPTER 37
The room was silent, except for the soft rustling of fabric as Kael stood before the large mirror. The air was heavy around him, filled with the scent of oils. Lady Orrigan had aent hisentd the soft lingering smell of magic that always seemed to follow him. He stared at himself for a while, his glowing eyes cold and full of mischief, but his face was calm as always. He was clad in the best Duskborne silks, deep violets and blacks that seemed to draw the light in the room, Lady Morrigan wouldn't let him dress anyhow; she sent the bwat of clothes for him.The cloth fitted him perfectly and showed off his broad shoulders, particularly to draw the ladies in the palace so they could have someone in the inner circle and also hid the evil power that laid benlay. It was a real contrast to the rags and battle robes he normally wore, but tonight, he had to play a different game. Tonight was a game of wits and strategy and thankfully, he had the best mom pick the beat for him.Elira, on the oth
CHAPTER 38
The music was very heavy in the room, and it was somehow ly creeping into the minds of the guests and somehow conrolling them. The air was heavy with the scent of perfume mixed with sweat from the frantic dancing. Kael moved through the crowd like a shadow in the dark, and his smile never faded; his eyes were always scanning.Deep down, he could feel the effects of the wine taking a toll on the silly folks and it only drew them to take in more. The nobles were talking now, louder and shameless, and their laughter was uncontrollable and their movements were in confused patterns. The poison was working perfectly and Kael smiled at everything he had planned. He stopped by a group of younger lords; he saw in their eyes that they were men who were eager to gain recognition, yearning for glory and power. They stared at him as he walked closer, their faces burning with determination and respect.“Lord Duskborne!” One of them cheered, raising his glass. “To the best host in Thornhaven!”“To
CHAPTER 39
The wagon ride to the Royal Palace was smooth, but the air inside was thick and heavy, filled with a silence that screamed louder than any noise. Kael sat calmly in the velvet seat, his hands resting on his knees, his posture straight and calm. He looked every bit the Lord Duskborne, dressed in his violet and black robe, but underneath that expensive cloth, his heart was beating with a calm and dangerous rhythm. He stared out the window as the familiar streets of the capital passed by, the same ones that had laid siege to the city a few days ago. It had been years, but nothing had changed. The same dirty stones, the same high walls that separated the rich from the poor, and the same towers of the palace that forced a long, dark shadow over the city. The wagon stopped at the main gates, nd the guards rushed immediately to open the doors.“Lord Duskborne,” the captain of the guard bowed low, not daring to look him in the eye.Kael stepped out calmly, his boots slamming against the groun
CHAPTER 40
The room was silent again as the King stopped pacing and stood before Kael. The air was suffocating, filled with the smell of fear and old wine. Kael stood his ground, his hands clasped behind his back, watching the King with a terrifying calmness.Aldric wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead. He looked like he was about to collapse, but he forced himself to stand tall.“The Prophecy,” the King muttered, his voice trembling. “Do you know of the Prophecy of Violet Eyes, Lord Duskborne?”Kael tilted his head slightly, feigning ignorance. “I am afraid I do not, Your Majesty. We do not pay much attention to superstitions in the West.”“Superstitions!” The King spat the word out, his eyes widening. “It is not superstition! It was foretold! A child with eyes of violet would rise from the darkness and bring the kingdom to its knees!”He stepped closer to Kael, pointing a shaking finger at him.“Your eyes,” the King whispered, staring deeply into Kael’s eyes. “They are violet.”Kael didn't
