CHAPTER FORTY-ONE “Babe? That’s impossible!” Said one of the observers standing at a distance. “What would such a goddess be looking for from such a low life man? Can you see how elegantly dressed she looks? The difference is glaring!” “This must be a case of mistaken identity!” The words continued to pour out gradually in the midst of the awe, astonishment and wonder that thrilled the space. No one was going to believe that such a ravishing beauty could be in anyway related to Novan. Taken aback by her words and coupled with the shock of her presence, Novan could only stare with his mouth wide open, unable to fathom the intricacies surrounding the entire turn out of events. “I know you are surprised. I will explain everything to you I promise! I have truly missed you.” Maya was enjoying the act, her spicy words continued to spite some of those present, especially Festus and Alexia. “Come here my darling.” Maya said and did what no one could ever imagine possible. “Did she j

CHAPTER FORTY-TWO “Are you sure? You looked like you were staring and maybe jealous.” Festus said softly with his eyebrows raised, not sure if he was supposed to say the words that came out of his mouth. “Jealous? How is that even possible? I am very angry, angry that he would choose to embarrass us this way. He must surely pay for his unruly behavior!” Alexia barked feigning annoyance. “I see. He will surely pay for this, I promise you.” Festus said and took Alexia’s hand caressing it gradually. Alexia smiled at him, but quickly removed her face to be able to sigh out the jealousy that was persistent. Meanwhile, at that point in time, one of the guards had rushed to open the back door to the white Porsche as soon as he saw that Novan and Maya were few steps away. Soon they got in and the guard closed the door after them. “Hello Novan. So good to see you, I have been in search of you for a while now.” Maya said with a smile plastered on her face but the man seated next to her nee

CHAPTER FORTY-THREE “Condition?” “Yes I have a condition.” Novan said again without budging. His eyes were looking into Maya’s and he refused to blink. “What condition?” Maya asked as she gradually unwrapped her arms from Novan’s body, hopeful that whatever the condition was she was going to be able to afford it. “I need you to promise me that after I must have helped you out, you would give me the herb. I need it to be able to heal others too.” “What you are asking for is a bit too much Novan. That’s my family heirloom.” Maya said as she gradually adjusted herself tapping on the seat she was seating on with Novan. “But that’s my condition. Besides, you really do not have so much need for it. You don’t even know what it’s used for.” “But that doesn’t still change the fact that it has been in my family for years and we can’t just give it out just like can’t. My father wouldn’t easily consent to such request.” “Then that is left for you to convince him to give it to me.” Novan

CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR They got into the room and just at the end of the corner of the room were three people on three beds covered with immaculate bedspreads in the room, the room was dimly lit and the long golden embroidered curtains properly covered the windows. Three female servants dressed in their work outfits stood beside each of the white beds ready to give attention to any of the persons on the bed. “I thought I specifically told you that I didn’t want to see this fellow here. I am out of here.” Novan barked at the sight of Dr Andrew and made his way to leave but the door was already shut and could only be opened from the outside. “Please Novan wait I beg you.” Maya pleaded, drawing him back by his left hand. “But I told you didn’t I?” He retorted with an obviously angry face. “There was nothing I could do at the moment, I couldn’t find you, we had to get Dr Andrew to handle things just before I found you. I beg you, please don’t go!” Maya pleaded with a shaky and pitiful v

CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE “As you can see he is gone now you can come and see them.” Maya said to Novan few seconds after she was certain that the Doctor was really gone. Novan looked at her and smiled, then he heaved a sigh of relief and gradually proceeded towards the three persons lying on the three beds at a corner. “Whats wrong?” Maya inquired after she had turned back to see that Novan had stopped right in front of the beds, just few inches before he could be right in front of them. “This smell! It’s strange but familiar at the same time. I don’t know what it is but I am definitely going to find out.” Novan said, then he moved closer to the beds to examine the sick persons. Lying on the first bed from the bed was Jane; her eyes were closed but they twitched at intervals and she struggled to breath properly making a wheeze. Her fists were tightened and the veins in her neck were out and reddish. On the second bed was Maya Maya’s Mother, her case seemed to be more critical than the

CHAPTER FORTY-SIX “These are ordinary items that have extraordinary effects on cases such as this. They may appear ordinary but not in the hands of a healer.” Novan said, then he raised one of the bottles and showed it to Mr Jones. “This is Coconut Kefir, it helps to create more openings for the poison to easily be extracted.” “This is ginger but from Africa, these are bitter kolas, they help stabilize the blood pressure. This is segmented tobacco, this is citrus liquid, you already know what this is. Do I really have to explain all these or should I continue with trying to cure your family members?” Novan asked suddenly realizing that he had wasted a lot of time explaining some of the items on the table. “Please! Carry on.” Mr Jones said and shifted the way. Novan slowly lifted the mortar and moved with it towards the beds. As soon as Maya saw him approaching, she stood up and wiped the tears in her eyes. “May I?” Novan asked requesting to start with her mother. Maya walked aw

CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN That wasn’t the end of it all, soon their breathing escalated when they saw blood pouring from her ears as her eyes began to twitch vigorously. “Get away from her you Moron! Who sent you now?” Mr Jones said in a loud voice and moved to drag Novan away from his wife. He had almost touched him, when his daughter who was holding on to his hand drew him backward. “Stop Daddy, I think he knows what he is doing.” Maya said in a teary but confident voice. “What? No! Can’t you see the way your mother is shaking? It’s either he was lucky the first time or it was the Doctor that healed me. I should have listened to my instincts, now we are about to lose your mother.” Mr Jones barked and separated himself from his daughter’s grip. “She will be fine Mr Jones, the poison is just leaving her body.” Novan managed to reply politely, hiding the anger that he felt inside of him.“By bleeding through the ears? How come that didn’t happen to me?” Mr Jones retorted in a lashing vo

CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT “Yes please! Forgive my attitude earlier on. I was really not wrong for doubting you. Please help us.” Mr Jones pleaded fighting with the urge to either get rid of his pride or let it ruin him. “Very well, I hope we have an understanding that once I am done, I get what we bargained for.” “Definitely! That won’t be a problem.” Mr jones replied still not aware of what was involved. He looked at Maya, but she was all over her mother, looking to see if she needed anything. Novan sighed slowly, then he picked up the mortar and headed over to Jane in a slow but steady voice. As he moved, gradually Mr Jones changed his attention to his daughter. Novan also took a spoonful of the substance in the mortar, and just as he had done to Maya, he applied some on Jane’s nostrils and also in her mouth, then he stood up and went towards Kelvin. He also did the same to him, then he went back to the table where his properties were and kept the mortar with the instrument that look

CHAPTER FORTY-NINE Jane opened her eyes, then she groaned slowly and placed her left hand on her head, withdrawing it from her father’s grip. “My head. It bangs so hard. What happened daddy?” Jane asked still holding on to her head. She closed her eyes and squeezed her face to the pain she felt. “I am sure you will be fine Jane. It must be a natural reaction to the herbs.” Maya said to her sister still holding on to her mother’s hands. “Jane? She was sick too?” Maya asked suddenly realizing that it was Jane who lay next to her.“Yes mum, even Kelvin.” Maya said in a low and regrettable tune. “What is really happening?” Maya said adjusting herself to look at Kelvin seeing that Maya had turned her gaze towards him. “Ah! My head. The pain is too much. I can’t bear it!” Jane screamed as her head banged profusely so hard that she fell back to the bed. “Do something! Can’t you see that she is in pains!” Maya said aloud glaring her eyes at Novan in clear anger. “Easy mum! You are sti

CHAPTER FIFTY “Thank you!” He said surprisingly to the amazement of Novan who responded with a smile. Then he extended his hand to the bedspread and scooped some of the blood with his fingers. With his fingers rubbing hard on the blood, he observed the blood and sighed in satisfaction. “Kelvin? Kelvin are you alright?” Maya asked, straining from her bed to look at her son who seemed rather quiet and didn’t move. “Yeah I am fine.” Kelvin responded without recognizing the voice that had spoken to him. Gradually, he turned to see who it was as the voice sounded faint but familiar. “Mum? What is going on here? Maya? Dad?” He said blinking his eyes gradually as a result of the blurry vision he had. “Rest son, everything would be explained to you later.” Mr Jones said to his son still holding on to Jane’s hand tenderly caressing it. “Oh Novan! Thank you very much! I am super grateful, my family and I would forever be indebted to you!” Maya said as she got up and embraced Novan to the
