Chapter 7: Longing
"I find it despicable how those royals can celebrate when the world we live in is so flawed, so broken," Raphael continued, sauntering towards a table placed on the far corner of the room to grab himself a drink. "The weak are forced to cover, while the strong freely exert their will and authority. That has been the nature of this kingdom, if you can ever call it that in the first place. "If you ask me, this civilization is more so a jungle that a society, one where power is everything. No one cares about what you know, as long as you have thr power to back it up," his gaze went back to the helpless state of his brother. He walked back to the chained vampire, a delighted expression forming on his face as he spoke: "Therefore, since I'm stronger than you, it's only right I enforce my own wishes upon you, no matter how insidiously twisted they may be." An exoberant howl permeated the lightless skies, the cry of a shadow-bound monstrosity. Life had returned to the somber street
Chapter 8: Whispers
Levi stood watching husband and wife, his grin growing wider as he addressed them both:"Pay the tribute, or loose your lives," deep, fascinated, and corrupted with gleeful sadism, his towering figure blocked their only entrance and exit from their home. His body oozed a demented sensation that petrified both Gordon and Cynthia, their eyes filled with horror as they looked back at Levi, breathing heavily, seemingly incapable of looking away."What's wrong? You folks look like you've seen a ghost," he said, shaking his head. "Stop kissing and pay up, else you know what's going to happen."Levi waltzed into the acrid abode, leather boots pressing against wooden fragments as he covered the distance. His figure towered above them, luminescent eyes staring down at quaking faces.Despite the direness of the situation, Cynthia's petrified expression slowly loosened as she looked back at her husband, her eyes gradually softening as she spoke:"I apologize, but we won't be able to pay this mo
Chapter 9: Attrition
Agonizing screams persisted, escalating the cancerous dread that clung feverishly to their yearning hearts. A final, resounding bang concluded the torturous ordeal, the menacing grin on Levi's face dwindling as his grip loosened.Raphael's body was sent flying as the latter eventually let go of his arm, his body crashing against the wall not too far away.Darion looked back at his brother's pitiful state—blood pouring from his pierced lips, head and appendages fearsomely bashed. His eyes remained corrupted by acidic hatred. Their blood cloths appeared crudely ripped, severely diminishing his vision.Moments later, he pressed his hands against the floor, spat out a concerning amount of blood, and forced himself back up to his feet.Crazed eyes stared back at Levi, unflinching as the latter met his gaze.He took a step forward, then two, then three. His every move was garnered by the involuntary swaying of his body, his compromised vision slowly being cleared by the power of Blood
Chapter 10: The Night Of Crimson
The night of crimson had finally arrived.Within the royal castle, the servants were swiftly ordered to get everything ready for the grant celebration. The large ballroom was filled with neatly arranged tables and seats all across. An assorted array of meat and glass cups were placed over silk tablecloths. Within the glassware, bioluminescent blood swayed, the Darkhavens sipping generously as they conversed with one another.Every royal was present, patiently awaiting the appearance of the emperor. In the midst of their discussions, the large doors were swung open, drawing all their attention.Kael waltzed into the large space with confident steps, crimson eyes gazing through the darkness. His garment was dark and chic; a red shirt and black trousers covering his body. The shirt had a series of dark patterns snaking all across, an emerald necklace hanging around his neck.A gold ring clung tightly to one of his fingers, similar bracelets on both wrists. His hair, which only once re
Chapter 11: Will(Part 1)
"Who is that man? I don't believe I've ever seen a vampire like him before.""How foolish can you be? Can't you tell from his smell? He's not one of us!""Then, what is he? He doesn't give off the same odour as the beasts, nor does he smell or even appear like the others.""You all are just wasting your time. Whatever he is, I'm sure Kael will deal with him before he can do anything. From what I can see, the emperor already has his eyes set on his prey.""I can see that as well. If not for the fact that I knew him, I would have assumed he was a wild animal, especially with that long hair of his."The next moment, Kael shifted his feet, disappearing from his position right after. Slade instinctively raised his hands in a cross shape, the crimson blade pressing hard against his arms. The sharp edge easily pierced through his sleeves, tearing through flesh within seconds. A viscous, purple liquid trickled down Kael's sword, his eyes sparking with intrigue."Purple… that's different," he
Chapter 12: Will(Part 2)
Seated along with the other members of the Darkhaven family, Vivian anxiously observed the flow of the match with worried breaths. Mars, Loki, and Raven sat beside her, a cacophony of swirling emotions lurking within their hearts. "Who is that guy? I've never seen him anywhere around the castle before," Loki asked, scratching his head. His eyes remajned heavily glued to the fight, unwilling to look away for even a moment, for fear of the fight ending if he missed even a second of it. "Be quiet! Do you want to draw unwanted attention to yourself?!" Raven responded, punching him on the shoulder. "Look at everyone; do you think they care about what you think? Or have you forgotten the hatred they have for father? Just because he's put them in their place, doesn't mean they wouldn't try something again if they get the idea. So I'd advice you keep quiet and just watch the fight." "Hey! Have you forgotten that I'm older than you? What gives you the right to lecture me?" Loki snapped back
Chapter 13:Will(Part 3)
The sense of time callously eluded the dismembered minds of the henpecked spectators. Many sported drained countenances, deep bags digging through flesh beneath veiny eyes. Their lips remained parched, stomachs rumbling within the noise of iron striking hardened flesh. As powerful as they were, not requiring rest or nourishment for a considerable time period, even they could concede to the fact that a concercing amount of time had elapsed.Still, the fight progressed, both contestants remaining locked in a fearsome battle for supremacy. This was, of course, vastly different from the matches from a decade ago. Back then, each match lasted a maximum of several hours, the more dreadful clashes spanning for over forty-eight hours, but not something like this.Witnessing it all, how far Kael had grown after ascending to the throne, a multitude of them couldn't help but silently wail in damnation, wishing their scions had truly crushed the rising devil before his powers could fully mature.
Chapter 14: Shadows(Part 1)
Nefaria was an empire ruled by might and flamboyant negligence. The powerful built magnificent barricades to shield themselves from the dreadful terrors of their tenebrous world, abandoning the less fortunate to rummage whatever they could amongst themselves, battling ardrously so as to live to see another day. Those who were lucky enough could set up humble business to sustain themselves, forever struggling to meet up with the payment of taxes. Failure to pay either the royal or local tribute was always met with immediate, harsh actions. Of course, the royals were exhalted, while the poorpers were nothing but scum. But then, the unluckly ones were forced to live on the unforgiving streets, eventually picked off by the fiends inhabiting them. Though there were shadow-bound creatures, those who had a bone to pick with them would often take amble advantage of the opportunity. What would usually follow was the bloody corpse of a vampire. If they had a family with them, then the older one
Chapter 15: Shadows(Part 2)
Raphael swung his blood sword, unleashing a wave of crimson light that glided swiftly through the air. Vanessa quickly dodged the attack, shooting forward with frightening speed. She threw her hand out, hardened claws clanging against the crimson blade repeatedly. Their clashes were constant, repetative, tainting the shadowy terrain with a surging increase in swirling flames and agonizing screams. All across, civilians lost their lives at a dreadful pace, many incapable of escaping the cataclysmic throes of searing pain. It was an insidious cleanse, a final, exoberant release from the callous clutches of eternal suffering and stagnation.Still, many wished, ran, and kicked their way past weaker folks. They fought against all odds to remain sentient, rushing across acrid smoke and crackling flames in search of illusive sanctuary. But still, no matter what they did, no matter how far the ran, they were never quick enough. They were weak, that was the irrevocable truth. And so, the only
Chapter 16: Shadows(Part 3)
"Welcome to the Dark Kings, brat," that words reverberated in his ears nonstop. All around him, the tenebrous silence defiled his vengeful thoughts, carrying the worried whispers of his terrified brothers.Jay remained clinging to Darion's arms, silently praying for everything to stop, for life to return to what it once was—warm, optimistic, peaceful. Meanwhile, Darion's body stilled, his thoughts dampened by the vicious reality he had to come to terms with. They were slaves, powerless as the tyrannical organization held their lives within contemptuous clutches. They were currently in one of the many rooms in the residence, locked away from the rest of the world. Wary pupils scanned their surroundings, Darion and Jay sharing grim expressions as the former did his best to calm his brother down. He repeated the words his parents usually told them whenever they found themselves in potential danger, silently hoping they would cheer his brother up."Everything's gonna be okay, Jay. Just cl
