Chapter 127
127. Adrian held Henry's arm as he was about to walk off again. "Hold on." He kept his eyes as the stranger kept walking deeper into the palace. Henry swatted off Adrian's hand off. He looked ready to jump out immediately and start screaming questions. Adrian grabbed the back of his shirt before he could move yet again. "Stay still or else I will kick the shit out of you." "But—" "Shut up. I'm not kidding, if you mess this up, you will regret it." Henry glared at him. The man in black kept moving through without hesitation. He turned a corner, passing through areas with fewer guards. Even after the front, every other guard he passed just ignored him. "Something is very wrong here." Adrian muttered as they followed him carefully from behind. "Oh wow, you think?" Henry hissed. The stranger eventually reached one of the quieter sections of the palace, looking around. Adrian was ready. This was the perfect place for an ambush. He looked at Henry and nodded.
Chapter 128
128. Henry couldn't take his eyes off or what were now the remains of that stranger. Nothing but a black uncanny mass that looked like it would disintegrate if one dared to touch it. "What the fuck, what the fuck, what the fuck?" He fell to his knees and put his hands on his head. Adruan patted his head. "Let's go." "No, don't do that. Don't act calm about this! That man just exploded from the inside!" "Burned from the inside." Adrian corrected, sounding tired. "THAT IS NOT ANY BETTER!" "Cause of death, asides the obvious." He asked the system mentally. [Magic seal.] [Kill switch activated to ensure that whomever it's casted on doesn't reveal secrets.] "It was a kill switch, probably." Adrian said. "Somebody made sure he couldn't talk if he got caught. Besides, don't go acting like a saint. The only reason you're scared is because you have no power to them now." Henry dragged his hands through his hair aggressively. "Fuck you Bloodson!" "Let's go, an

129. (Earlier that same day.) Macy sat by herself at a small bakery near the market square with a hood over her head and a cup of tea in front of her. She was still very angry. Angry at Adrian, angry at herself, and angry at the whole fucking world. The argument from earlier kept replaying in her head. “He thinks I’m weak.” She scoffed. Bullshit. Macy drank her tea, deep in thought. She knew that she owed basically everything to Adrian, but she didn’t want to keep doing that forever. An older woman nearby looked at her strangely. Macy ignored her. The bakery was crowded because of tomorrow's celebration. It was one of the few high-end ones with nobles and wealthy merchants with their servants and guards in with them. They were all talking about one thing. Of Summer Nights. The royal ball everybody wouldn't shut up about. Macy honestly did not care until she overheard the people behind her talking. Two noblemen sat there dressed in expensive clothes while stuffing pastri

130. Macy stayed hidden behind the shelf for a bit longer after the king left. Her heart was beating so hard that she thought he would surely hear it and it would expose her. Now that she was sure he was gone, she lowered herself to the floor and pressed a hand against her mouth. "What the fuck, why is this happening?” She whispered with fear. The king was talking to someone who wasn't even there, and whatever it was knew Adrian personally and had a bone to pick with him. Macy looked toward the archive doors again carefully as she finally heard movement outside. The guards. She used her ability again carefully and almost gagged from what she felt. Their minds were still completely empty. She had never come across such creatures… "That's disgusting." She muttered quietly. She waited until the footsteps faded further away before stepping out from behind the shelf. Her hands were still shaking. Somehow, against all odds, her annoying overprotective brother was actually r

131. Henry looked like somebody had punched straight through his chest and laughed. No one had any idea if he we laughing at himself or to himself. "Wow." He muttered. "This is actually my life now." Macy folded her arms and looked at him without sympathy. "If you're too scared, then leave." Henry looked at her instantly. "Excuse me?" "You heard me." Macy shrugged. "Nobody is forcing you to stay here." Henry scoffed bitterly. "Right. Because apparently my father is possessed, there's a magical psychopath planning mass murder, and now there might be something even worse controlling all of this. But yes, let me just casually go home and sleep." "You're the one looking like you're about to faint. What will you even do? I've heard you're a horrible fighter." "I am stressed!" "You've said that six times now." Adrian pinched the bridge of his nose. "Macy." "What?" "Please. Just please, stop antagonising him for one minute." Macy rolled her eyes and He

132. The palace looked beautiful, that was the worst part. Everything sparkled, yet everything felt wrong. Adrian didn’t like how it felt. He watched the people dancing and talking, suspecting everyone possible. "You look like you're attending a funeral, lighten up a little." Macy muttered beside him. "Thing is, I might be attending a funeral." Adrian replied. Macy rolled her eyes and adjusted the sleeves of her black dress. "You're really good at ruining moods." "Aww. Brother-sister bonding." Adrian said sarcastically as his eyes stayed on the crowd. Foreign nobles had arrived from different kingdoms. Wealthy merchants stood near the wine tables bragging loudly about business. The general knights guarded every entrance while musicians played music. "Do you sense that?" Adrian asked his sister. Macy frowned. "Sense what?" Adrian looked around, shaking his head. He could feel something weird. It was like a feeling, a bad energy that stank. Macy focused for a

133. "Sir Adrian Bloodson and friends, you must come with us." Henry immediately frowned at the zombie-acting guards. "Friends?" Henry said. "That sounds disgusting." Macy folded her arms. "I'm not going anywhere with creepy dead-eyed weirdos." The guards did not react to her. “You must come with us.” “Why?” Adrian asked. “You have been requested." "By who?" Henry asked. Before the guard could answer, another voice cut in. "Oh, leave them alone already." Adrian turned around to see Lady G walking towards them with a stern look on her face directed at the guards. How did she enter without them noticing? Adruan thought. He looked around, but she had not set anything off. Lady G wore a long dark dress covered in silver designs that shimmered beneath the ballroom lights. Her black gloves reached past her elbows and a small smile rested on her lips. She looked elegant and terrifying, in the way that a snake did. Beautiful till attack. The guards immediatel

134. Lady G sighed contentedly as she looked down at Macy’s dead body. “Little brats should stay in their own lanes.” She left her lying there and walked out. Her target was still moving. That was the problem. Most of the people in the ballroom had gone or were consumed, but the creatures still had a few left. Henry slammed his spear through another creature and yelled at a group of nobles. "STOP FREEZING AND RUN!" One of them pointed behind him with shaking hands. "My prince!" Henry turned just in time to duck as a shadow creature leapt at his face. The thing crashed over him instead and both rolled violently across the floor. "GET THE FUCK OFF ME, YOU DISGUSTING CREATURE!" Adrian sliced the creature apart before it could bite Henry's throat. "You know, one day I'm going to let you die out of spite." "No you won't." Henry responded. Just then, there was another explosion shook the ballroom. Adrian immediately looked towards the throne wing. The runes were

135. Lady G’s face had completely lost colour. She pointed at Macy with a shaking hand. “No. This cannot be happening!” She whispered. Macy waved at her. “Hello to you too." "THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE!" Lady G screamed. "I KILLED YOU! I SAW YOUR BODY DROP! I KNOW WHERE YOUR HEART IS!” Henry looked between both women. “This would make a really good story." “Who are you? How are you alive?” Lady G asked in fear. Macy smirked proudly. "Skill issue. As you can see, I am not dead.” Lady G looked genuinely horrified now. “No, I know what I’m saying! I blasted through your chest myself..." She looked up at Adrian. “You have to believe me!” Adrian folded his arms. “You did." Lady G glared at him. “If that’s true then how is she alive?” Adrian finally smiled genuinely for the first time that night.- - - Earlier before the ballroom battle. Adrian stood in one of the palace corridors with two Macys standing in front of him. Henry stared at both women with comple

136. There was a loud thunderclap from the sky, causing Henry to jump. Macy burst into laughter instantly. “You like a child." Henry glared at her. Another thunderclap came from the sky again, and the clouds seemed to get darker. Adrian looked up and Henry awkwardly cleared his throat. "Okay, maybe it's just rain clouds." He muttered nervously. "Storms happen. I know that weather exists." Something wet suddenly landed directly on his shoulder. Henry froze. Very slowly, he looked down. A giant black insect the size of a hand was on his shoulder. Its legs twitched. Immediately, Henry let out a scream loud enough to wake the dead. "NOOOO!” Macy laughed so hard that she fell to the ground. "Oh my goodness!” Henry started slapping himself violently. "IT HAS TOO MANY LEGS! HELP!” The insect crawled towards his neck and Henry made another horrifying sound. Macy finally flicked the creature off him. It landed on the wall, crushing on impact. Macy shuddered with d
