Chapter 147
147. "Selene, answer me!” Selene wasn’t looking at Adrian, her eyes were on the stone instead. What the hell would she say to him? Selene didn't know, so she didn’t respond. She stared at the ball for a second before quickly closing her fingers around it. “Selene." Still nothing. She shoved the ball into her pocket and looked away. "We need to get the children out first, Adrian. Everything else is secondary." Her voice sounded strained. Adrian nodded and slowly got to his feet. His throat still hurt from where the warden had nearly crushed it. He looked at Selene, and shook his head. He had so many questions that were practically exploding inside his head. What kind of magic was that? Why had she lied about being able to do magic? What else had she lied about? How many other things was she hiding? He shook his head. No, he needed to concentrate on the kids. Most of them looked terrified. Adrian swallowed his questions. "Right, the children.” Selene looked
Chapter 148
148. Henry was in the middle of losing an argument with Kael in the major city mall. There was a supply run and he had volunteered to be part of it, but as they stocked up, they argued. "I'm telling you, that's a terrible idea." "It's a brilliant idea." Kael replied. "No, it's terrible." "Brilliant!" Mira walked past both of them carrying medical supplies. "You're both idiots. Be quick so we can leave." "See?" Henry pointed at her. "She agrees with me." "No." Mira replied without stopping. "I think you're both idiots." Kael laughed. The rebellion base had become surprisingly lively over the last few days. There were more people in the "family". So that meant more training, more planning, and more arguments. For the first time in months, things almost felt normal for Henry, save for attacks. He had become more used to the environment. Henry sat on a wooden crate and looked at Kael. "So you're seriously saying we should put explosives under a bridge?"

149. Henry hated that scream immediately. When he got to Mira’s site, she was nowhere to be found, but he could hear loud screaming from someone. The kind of scream people made when they thought they were about to die. "Shit." He dropped the blanket he was carrying and turned around. Kael picked up the blanket and ran beside him. "You can’t just run when you hear a scream." "I can’t find Mira!” Henry exclaimed, still running. The scream came again, but this time it sounded weaker. Henry was sick to his stomach. Mira. Please don't let it be Mira. He begged in his mind. It couldn’t be her, not after everything she had already done to help people! The giant tower still stood in the distance like a giant middle finger aimed at the entire kingdom. “FUCK YOU!” Henry spat at it as he ran through the wreckage. Kael followed behind. "Slow down!" "I can’t afford to!" Henry said, throwing himself over obstacles and jumping like a kangaroo before he slid beneath a lar

150. The cheering inside City Hall refused to die as different rebels walked up to him to congratulate him. Henry wanted the floor to open up and swallow him whole. “Alright, alright, shut up!” He said to the next one who came. Nobody listened and someone threw a blanket at him. Kael nearly fell over laughing. “I’ve never seen anyone look so embarrassed after kissing a beautiful woman.” “I hate every single one of you.” “No you don’t.” “You’re right.” Henry sighed. “Unfortunately.” Mira had sat up again, looking equally embarrassed. “They’re acting like we got married.” “Give them time.” Kael said. “Someone will probably organise a wedding by dinner.” “KAEL!” The former knight laughed even harder. Henry sat beside Mira’s bed. “You should rest.” “You should rest too.” “I wasn’t nearly crushed by a building.” “Yes, but I know you carried a lot of people back here today.” “I’m strong.” Henry said, and Mira burst into laughter. “That’s off
Chapter 151
151. Adrian read Henry's letter three times before he folded the paper and sighed. The letter sat on the desk beside his untouched breakfast. Henry had apparently spent half the night writing recommendations and possible allies for Adrian's cause and the rebellion. So much for a hello. Most of the names were useless to Adrian. There was no way he was going go trust any of the names that he had crossed off. The other ones were questionable, in the sense that they always sat on the fence with regard to fire matters. One can never trust such people, unless as a joke. The one name that made sense was a nobleman named Lord Harrow. Henry had underlined the name three separate times. Trust this one. Then underneath that, he had written... Seriously. Trust this one. And underneath that... If he turns out evil, I will personally apologise. Adrian sighed. Henry had become much better, that he knew, but he also knew that Henry was not the best judge of character in any situation.

152. They got out of the office, hearts hammering, and nearly crashed straight into the servant who had let them in earlier. The man blinked at them, holding a silver tray with two empty teacups. "Ah, there you are." The servant said, forcing a polite smile. "I was looking for you both. Lord Harrow's guests usually enjoy tea while they wait. Would you care for some?" Actually, the servant thought them to be rude scoundrels who needed to get out as soon as possible. Adrian recovered first, flashing a quick grin even though his pulse was still racing from the papers they'd just stuffed away. "Tea... um... sounds nice, but we're good, thanks. We gave ourselves a little tour of this beautiful home of yours. Damn, those gardens outside are something else." Selene jumped in smoothly, looping her arm through Adrian's. "Yes, we couldn't just sit around. But we can't wait any longer for Lord Harrow. Something came up. We really have to go." The servant's eyes narrowed at them
Chapter 153
153. Kael trudged through the damp soil with his sword in his hand, "in case of incasity", as Henry liked to say. The forest smelled nice. After being in nature for long, he had come to call it his first home. As for Henry, he and the two other rebels had split up an hour ago, each taking a different direction to cover more ground. "Find anything useful," Henry had said before leaving. "Weapons, maps, supplies, anything that will get us all to survive next week." Kael muttered under his breath, swatting at a low-hanging branch. "Easy for you to say, prince boy. You're not the one crawling through fucking spiderwebs." He chuckled. Henry had rolled his eyes after Kael said that. Kael was now alone in this part of the kingdom. He moved quickly and kept his senses sharp. He was here for one reason. The rebellion needed gear badly. Swords, armor, arrows, things that actually worked. Their current stash looked like it belonged in a kid's playground. Fine, he came here for tw

154. Kael pressed his back harder against the cold stone wall, the sweat dripping down his face. "Let's reason, please." He said. The guardian loomed over him, his jaws wide open with fire and ice swirling together. "Wait, wait, wait, you big ugly fuck!" Kael shouted, raising one hand. "You said only your own power can stop you, right? Those were your exact words!" The creature paused, with its flames already at the edges of its teeth. Its glowing blue eyes narrowed. "What trick is this, little thief? Speak quickly before I roast your bones." Kael's heart hammered like a war drum. He remembered the guardian's words clear as day. Only its own power. Fire and ice, that had to be the key. No normal sword would do shit, but maybe something else in this cave could. "Yes, I heard you loud and clear!" Kael said, sliding sideways along the wall, eyes darting everywhere. "You're all powerful and ancient and blah blah. But let's be real here, big guy. You're stuck in this ho

155. The place was buzzing with excitement when they arrived. Everyone saw them pulling a bunch of weapons with Henry and Kael at the forefront. The news spread rapidly. Everyone ran out to see what was happening. There were cates of fresh swords, stacks of armour, and bundles of arrows all kept down on display in the middle of the camp. The rebels were all glad, having lost or damaged their low-quality weapons in attacks. Henry stood at the centre of it all, grinning as people crowded around him and the others who went on the run. "Fucking brilliant!" One of the tall new rebels shouted, pumping his fist. "We can arm three hundred more men now. Maybe four!" Another woman clapped Henry hard on the shoulder. “You did it, Prince. I don’t know how, but you did. That stash is going to help us greatly.” She picked up a sword. “And look at this quality!” Henry laughed and raised both hands. “Hold on, hold on. I didn't do all these things alone. Kael's the one who found the
Chapter 156
156. Henry wished that this fight was just like any other fight between them and the soldiers. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. No, this was the most brutal, the bloodiest battle he had ever witnessed in his entire life. So many royal soldiers had been killed, but many more came in, jumping over the outer walls of the HQ. They came in waves and used the incoming darkness to their advantages. Henry couldn't concentrate. Everywhere he looked, he saw dismembered bodies, blood, torches blazing, swords and flying arrows. The rebellion's new weapons barely had time to shine before the headquarters had just turned into a slaughterhouse. "Form up! Fight, you bastards!" Henry yelled desperately from where he fought at the centre, swinging his blade at the first soldier who charged him. Henry was annoyed and didn't have time to waste. The sword went into his neck and the man went down gurgling. Three more soldiers took his place. Kael fought beside him, cursing nonstop. "T
