Chapter 1 : The Signature V
The classical strains of Goldberg Variations accompanied Heinrich Aasen on his way home after delivering the final documents to a law firm in Hamburg. His work as a private courier required precision, punctuality, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.Heinrich lived on the outskirts of Hamburg, a quiet and warm neighborhood to be enjoyed with his wife, Liv, and their twin daughters, Lenna and Eva.After getting out of the car, Heinrich paused. Lenna and Eva did not greet his arrival, unlike their usual routine. The house was extremely quiet, as if no one was inside.“Liv, I’m home,” Heinrich called, not too loudly, while checking the living room and then the kitchen.“Are they already asleep?” Heinrich thought as he headed straight for the children’s bedroom.Sure enough, Lenna and Eva were lying in their respective beds. The bedroom light was still on. It was unusual for them to sleep before their father returned, as they always waited to be read a bedtime story.Heinri
Chapter 2 : Valkyrie
Heinrich stood up and pushed his chair back. “Give me a name,” he asked, without a hint of pleading.“I’m sorry, Luc. There is a code of ethics I can’t violate.” Frederick refused Heinrich’s request.Heinrich leaned forward halfway, placing both hands on the table. His sharp gaze was fixed on Frederick, who was older than him. “My family was killed under mysterious circumstances. Do you really think I care about your damn code of ethics?” His voice was low and controlled, but cold and firm.“You know I’ve stepped away. No weapons, no targets. My life is completely normal now, Fred,” Heinrich added as he straightened his posture.Frederick fell silent for a moment, then let out a slow breath. “I don’t know for certain. But you can look for information where you first started all of this.”The answer sounded light, yet it managed to reopen an old veil Heinrich had sealed tightly. The dirty blond man took a few steps back, then turned and left Frederick, who watched him with an unreadabl
Chapter 3 : Edge of The World
“I do not need an alias.” Heinrich’s gaze sharpened.“There are no real names in our world,” Sergei replied softly, but with emphasis.“I know your real name. And you know mine.”Sergei let out a slow breath. “That is because we keep each other’s secrets.”“Yes, though not always,” Heinrich answered. “So, where do I find Valkyrie?”“As her name suggests. Valkyrie is in Norway. A place where it feels like you are visiting the edge of the world,” Sergei explained calmly, his eyes and expression heavy with meaning.Heinrich fell silent. He knew he could not force Sergei to say more than that. “The edge of the world?” he repeated quietly. “Fine. Then get me a vehicle.”Sergei took a sip of his coffee and set the empty cup back on its saucer. “Are you sure you want to look for her there?”“I have to.”“Acting in haste is not your nature, Luc.”Heinrich went quiet. What Sergei said was not wrong. He gave a faint shake of his head. “Get me a vehicle.”“Of course. That will not be difficult f
Chapter 4 : Old Weapon
Sergei slowed the vehicle and stopped in front of a remote house. The building looked isolated from the world, blending into the thick darkness of the night. Alone, much like Heinrich’s life at this moment. The house had once been Heinrich’s resting place when he was still deeply involved in his former work as an elite hitman. Since getting married and leaving that life completely, he had never returned.“Miss your old place?” Sergei glanced over as he unfastened his seat belt and stepped out first.A moment later, Heinrich followed. They entered the house using the light from Sergei’s phone flashlight. The place was not without electricity. However, it was so old that when the lights were turned on, they glowed dimly. That condition had lasted for years, back when Heinrich still came here regularly to truly rest.“So dirty,” Sergei muttered after switching on the light in the room. He waved a hand in front of his face, bothered by the dust.Heinrich did not respond. He opened the woo
Chapter 5 : The Vokter
Heinrich kept driving. He stopped at several gas stations to refuel and relieve the fatigue from the long journey he had endured. After two days had passed, Heinrich finally arrived near the border. The road narrowed, flanked by increasingly dense pine forests. Silent and oppressive. The uneasy atmosphere was worsened by low-hanging fog that limited visibility. The vehicle’s headlights remained on, reflecting faintly off road signs that appeared less and less frequently.Heinrich slowed down. He had to stay fully focused. His old instincts kicked in, heightening the alertness of the forty-four-year-old man. The official border lay only a few kilometers to the south. However, Heinrich would not pass through it. He chose another route that felt safer, though it could be far more dangerous. There were no gates or strict checkpoints. That was what made it challenging, due to the lack of surveillance from security patrols. After successfully passing through the deserted r
Chapter 6 : Morksti
The men who had been watching Heinrich and Jonas earlier rose from their table and left the bar.Meanwhile, Heinrich and Jonas were already facing the meals they had ordered, preparing to eat.“Where are you staying?” Jonas asked after taking a bite.“I don’t know,” Heinrich replied briefly, then did the same.“Don’t sleep out on the road or you’ll—” Jonas didn’t get to finish his sentence. Heinrich suddenly stood up and hurried outside. Not knowing what was happening, Jonas rushed after him.“Hey!” Heinrich called out to a man approaching his car, his movements suspicious. The man glanced back briefly. He said nothing, showed no sign of guilt, and simply walked away.As soon as the man was gone, Heinrich moved quickly toward his parked vehicle and inspected it carefully. His hands moved with practiced precision, as if he already knew which parts were usually targeted for sabotage.“What’s wrong?” Jonas asked as he approached. “Who was that man?”Heinrich didn’t answer right away. His
Chapter 7 : Vokter's Ambush
Heinrich stared coldly. He turned around without taking off his jacket.“Hey, Ulv. Search him.” The man who had been banging on the car window earlier gave the order to his companion.Ulv was about to step forward to frisk him. But Heinrich spun around in a swift motion. He knocked the rifle’s muzzle upward, then kicked the man who had aimed the gun at him straight in the solar plexus, sending him flying backward. After that, Heinrich shifted his attack to the man named Ulv, who had been about to search him. A hard punch smashed into the man’s face as he moved in to strike.Seeing this, Jonas, who had been sneaking out of the car, immediately grabbed the rifle from the man still lying on the ground. He slammed the rifle butt into the attacker’s stomach and head before the man could get up. Not satisfied, Jonas kicked his head several times. After seizing the rifle, Jonas shot the attacker on the right, who had already prepared to strike Heinrich. A bullet tore through his chest. Jonas
Chapter 8 : Taken Alive
Heinrich was not completely unconscious. He managed to turn his head. At the same moment, a second blow landed. Fresh blood streamed from his nose and the corner of his lips. His vision began to blur.As if unsatisfied, the attacker delivered a kick. This time, Heinrich truly lost consciousness.Without wasting time, the attacker dragged Heinrich away, pulling him into the forest while Jonas was still busy exchanging gunfire with another assailant.“This man is dangerous. Tie his hands and feet so he can’t fight back,” ordered the attacker who had dragged Heinrich into the pine forest.“What about Skarvik?”“Leave him here. We have to get to the cabin and report to Vardr.”“Alright.”Heinrich’s hands and feet were bound like a hunted animal. A large-built man dragged him using a rope. They took Heinrich to a wooden cabin deep inside the forest.Meanwhile, Jonas began to realize that Heinrich was gone. The enemy hiding behind the pine trees suddenly stopped shooting. The area fell into
Chapter 9 : The Escape
The door was shut tight. Heinrich was left alone in the room.Heinrich closed his eyes for a moment. The pain from the earlier torture had drained his strength, though it had not vanished completely. He needed time to regain his energy. The only way was to ignore the discomfort he was enduring. In his half-conscious state, the image of Liv’s beautiful face appeared behind his eyelids. Her tenderness, love, and affection had turned Heinrich into a different man.Liv felt so real. She stood before him with her gentle smile.“Liv…” The name slipped out deeply. “I love you…”“I love you, Erik.”Liv’s soft voice sounded so clear that Heinrich blinked. A spark of strength emerged. He did not know where it came from, but suddenly it was there, inside him.“Help me, Liv.”Heinrich looked up at his hands bound to the ring in the wooden ceiling. He tried to pull them down. The rope was tied tightly to the iron ring. There was no other way for him to free himself except by relying on physical st
Chapter 10 : Tiwaz
Heinrich turned, his gaze locked sharply on the radio transceiver on the table. He slipped the pistol into the back of his waistband and tightened his grip on the long-barreled rifle he was carrying. The radio crackled again. A few seconds later, the melody of Goldberg Variations filled the room. Classical music Heinrich often listened to while driving, sitting alone at home, or carrying out missions.Heinrich shook his head in confusion. Only Liv and Sergei knew about his fondness for that music.“What kind of game is this?” Heinrich muttered, his eyes dark with suspicion. He stepped closer to the table as the music stopped. He stared at the radio for several moments, then scanned the room. Heinrich was certain someone was watching him, though he did not know who or from where. One thing was clear. Whoever it was knew him well.“Sergei .…”Without hesitation, Heinrich grabbed the radio and headed for the door. Just as he was about to open it, he sensed a faint movement outside. Heinr
