The Shattering of a Promise
"Ravian, stop dragging that crippled leg of yours. You're ruining the party's atmosphere."The voice was sharp, cutting through the clinking of harps and the light laughter from the Arkana clan's great hall. Ravian Arkana stopped in his tracks. He leaned against a stone pillar in the dimly lit back garden, trying to steady his shallow breath. His paralyzed left leg felt like a dead weight of lead."Kaelan? I just wanted to get some fresh air," Ravian whispered. His eyes searched for another figure. "Where is Xuelan? She said she wanted to meet me here before the engagement ceremony began."Kaelan Arkana, his half-brother, stepped out from the shadows of the cherry blossom trees. His handsome face was adorned with a smile that never reached his eyes. Beside him, a girl in a sky-blue dress stepped gracefully. Lin Xuelan."I'm here, Ravian," Xuelan said. Her voice was flat, devoid of the warmth she usually displayed in front of the elders.Ravian gave a thin smile; the pain in his leg se
Where Light Does Not Reach
Dark. Cold. And the stinging stench of death."It hurts... damn it, it really... hurts..."Ravian’s voice sounded hoarse, almost like sandpaper scraping against stone. He tried to move his fingertips, but the only sensation that returned was a sickening wave of pain. His body felt like a lump of flesh that had been repeatedly struck by a giant hammer."Am I still alive?" he whispered to the darkness. "Why... why am I still breathing?"He tried to open his eyes. At first, there were only white spots dancing before his vision, but slowly, the silhouette of jagged rocks began to take shape. He lay on damp, hard ground. Ground that had not been touched by sunlight for thousands of years."Cough! Cough!"Fresh blood sprayed from his mouth, soaking the dust beneath his face. Every time he coughed, his broken ribs felt like they were stabbing his lungs from the inside.Kaelan... Xuelan...Those names flashed through his mind, bringing with them a blaze of fury hotter than his physical pain.
Contract of Blood and Darkness
The pain that had just been shattering his body suddenly vanished, replaced by an emptiness so cold it felt like it was burning. Ravian opened his eyes, but he did not see the rocks of the Abyss of Soul Annihilation. He did not see the Shadow Predators. There was only an eternal darkness stretching out without limit."Where am I? Am I... truly dead?" Ravian whispered. His voice was no longer hoarse instead, it echoed clearly in that void."You are in the Zero Consciousness Space. The threshold between existence and annihilation," a formless voice replied. It was cold, flat, and vibrated with undeniable authority.Ravian tried to move his hands. He saw his body or at least the projection of his soul floating in the midst of the darkness. "That voice again. You... the Forbidden God System?""Correct, Host. I am the legacy of an entity that has been erased from the history of the Astrala Continent. I am the answer for those who have been rejected by the heavens."Ravian laughed bitterly
The Reconstruction Process
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaakh!"Ravian’s scream pierced the silence of the Abyss of Soul Annihilation, louder than the howling winds that usually haunted the place. His body floated a few inches off the ground, trapped in a wildly spinning cocoon of black fire. Every second felt like a year of torture in the deepest hell."System! Stop! My head... it feels like it’s going to explode!" Ravian screamed in a hoarse voice."Synchronization of the Demon Bone Structure has reached ten percent," the System’s cold voice echoed, ignoring its host's pleas. "If I stop now, you will become a pile of boneless meat. Do you wish to return to being the trash that crawls at Kaelan Arkana’s feet?""D-damn you..." Ravian hissed, his tears evaporating instantly from the extreme heat. "Don’t mention... that bastard’s name!"Crack! The sound was so loud it echoed off the canyon walls. Ravian’s spine shattered into a dozen pieces, only to be forcibly reconnected by strands of black fire crawling into the gaps of his ne
Eat or Be Eaten
"Bring them all to me!"Ravian’s shout echoed, bouncing off the damp stone walls. His pair of red eyes glinted in the darkness, challenging a dozen predators that were now crawling closer. The ground beneath his feet cracked, unable to withstand the overflow of energy boiling within his Hell Meridians."One prey has fallen. Nine targets remaining to complete the mission," the System’s voice sounded cold in his head. "Don't just bluff, Host. Show that you are worthy of the title Successor of Hell.""Shut up!" Ravian hissed. One of the Shadow Predators lunged, its body seemingly merging with the darkness. Its speed was twice as fast as the previous attack. Ravian tried to react, swinging his fist toward the shadow.BOOM!An explosion of black energy erupted from his fist, hitting empty air. The power was too immense, sending Ravian’s body flying backward from his own momentum. He slammed hard against the cave wall, causing rocks to crumble."Damn it... what is this?" Ravian coughed, wip
The Art of Devouring Cultivators
"System, where are the corpses of the cultivators you mentioned? I want to taste the human essence."Ravian's voice sounded cold, trembling with a hunger he had only just realized. Beneath his feet, the carcass of the Shadow Predator began to evaporate into black ash."Walk three hundred steps to the north, through the narrow gap behind that stone pillar," the System replied in its usual flat tone. "There lies an area called the 'Soul Estuary.' It is the deepest gravitational point where corpses from the surface usually get stuck before being completely destroyed."Ravian began to walk. His new legs stepped on the ground with terrifying precision. He no longer stumbled. Every step felt light, as if he were dancing upon death."Soul Estuary..." Ravian murmured while parting the thick mist with a wave of his hand. "How many people have been cast down here like me?""Thousands over the last ten millennia," the System replied. "However, only you have a contract with me. For the others, th
Time Distortion
Ravian lowered his body, his claws glowing with a bloodthirsty, blackish-purple light. The monster mentioned by the System had not yet shown itself, but the air around the massive stone pillar suddenly grew so cold that Ravian's breath froze."He's here," Ravian hissed."Wait, Host. Do not attack," the System's voice suddenly changed, sounding more alert. "Something is wrong. My energy sensors are detecting unstable spatial distortions behind that monster.""What do you mean? I don't care about space; I just want to rip its throat out!"GRRRRR...A creature resembling a giant spider with a weeping human face crawled out. However, as the monster lunged toward Ravian, its movements suddenly slowed down, as if it were trapped in an invisible mass of honey."Why did it... stop in mid-air?" Ravian was stunned, his hand already poised to strike now held in check."Enter the area behind it, Ravian! Quickly! This is a Zero Point Anomaly!" the System commanded with an urgent tone.Ravian used
Lord of Darkness
Ravian had just dug his claws into the damp stone wall when the ground beneath him exploded. The vibration was so violent that it toppled stone pillars that had stood for thousands of years. Black dust billowed high, obscuring a view that was already extremely limited."Do you think this abyss would let go of its best prey just like that, Host?" the System's voice echoed with a tone that almost resembled a warning."What now?" Ravian landed back on the ground in a defensive stance. His red eyes glinted sharply behind the dust."The true owner of the house has awakened. You were too noisy during your practice earlier."From behind the fog of dust, a heat that suffocated the lungs began to creep in. A thick stench of sulfur pierced his nose, followed by a growl that sounded more like the rumble of a volcano. A pair of giant, glowing orange eyes opened from the darkness, each the size of a human head."Hell-Crust Beast," the System muttered. "The true ruler of the abyss floor. It does no
Climbing the Wall of Death
"Are you ready, Heir?"The System's voice echoed, bouncing between the wet and cold granite walls. Ravian stood before a perpendicular cliff face, a stone giant that seemed to have no end. Above, black mist blocked his view, hiding the world that had cast him out."Don't ask things you already know the answer to, System," Ravian hissed. He squeezed his fingers, feeling his nails now as hard as steel grating against each other."This wall reaches a height of ten thousand meters. Gravity here will not let you ascend easily. You will feel as if you are carrying a mountain on your shoulders," the System warned.Ravian smirked, an expression that looked foreign on his face, which was now thinner and sharper. "Carrying a mountain? I've been carrying this hatred for months at the bottom of this hole. Gravity is just a minor nuisance.""Then begin. Show me that the Demon Bone Structure isn't just for show."Ravian took a deep breath. The air at the bottom of the abyss felt heavy and smelled o
The Return of the Shadow
Surface winds blew hard, bringing the scent of pine and wet earth that felt foreign to Ravian's lungs. He remained seated on the edge of the cliff, letting the stinging sunlight sweep across his face, which was now paler and thinner. His eyes narrowed, staring at the silhouettes of Azure City's towers rising on the western horizon, shimmering like jewels under the blue sky."One year," Ravian whispered. His voice cracked, carried away by the wind. "This world keeps moving as if nothing happened.""You expected the world to stop spinning just because a cripple was thrown into a filthy hole?" The System's voice echoed coldly in his head. "Wake up, Host. Do not be a poet when you should be a butcher."Ravian gripped the grass beneath his palms. He felt it life under his fingertips yet his heart still felt like frozen stone. "I was just remembering, System. Remembering the pain when my ribs were crushed in this very place.""Memories are a burden if you do not turn them into a sword," the
