Chapter One: Rejected Chef.
Plates clattered, spoons rattled and water splattered right beside Killan but he ignored it, a futile attempt by his second greatest rival Sean to rile him up, knowing that the CEO is closeby— his sworn nemesis.“This batch wouldn’t clean itself up, Killan.” Sean yelled holding up a dirty soup bowl.“You can tell this is the last batch Sean, you can as well join in if you want.”Sean snorted, hating Killan’s assumed arrogance. His usual competitive attitude overcame his mindset, despite the promotion as the kitchen head he had just been honored with, he couldn’t silence the whispers among other chefs of who actually deserves the honor—Killian Quinn of course. The best chef at KTS kitchen, the second best internationally renowned restaurant in the whole of Los Angeles. Destiny probably was wrong by interchangeably leading the top chef into an unexpected demotion of the lowest order in the kitchen or was it Sean’s hatred backed by a bigger force, the CEO’s approval.“I will leave you to
Chapter 2: Bottomless Pit.
Killian threw his phone on the table and let out a deep sigh. The silence in the background was more frustrating than having someone to talk to about Amanda, his former boss’s mockery words. It had been two days since Martha had travelled to the countryside to see her aged mother and three weeks since Killian had lost his job at KTS but he was still yet barred from picking up the rest of his experimental recipes from the restaurant’s kitchen cabinet. He looked at the kitchen table where two pots of delicacies sat lazily, there was no one to taste it for him. He smiled at the memory of Martha’s usual enthusiasm whenever he tests out his recipes and she tastes them for him.I will be back within the week my love.He remembered her exact words and how he rubbed her belly lovingly before dropping a soft kiss on her lips. Killian gasped softly and got off his feet, he had been too distracted that he almost missed the important show, the one he spent years fantasizing over, waiting endles
Chapter 3:Rebirth.
Killan jolted up panting hard, the dream had felt all too real. He looked down at his left wrist, it wasn’t bleeding out, he wasn’t sitting in the pool of his own blood. He let out a breath of relief, that end in the dream was too scary, Only that something of it resonates, he was lying on an old mattress in a small room, the tiny apartment he rented after Martha sold their house.A loud buzzing noise filled Killian’s ears and he looked up only to see a small screen appear before his eyes. A green ink showed up on the screen and he strained his eyes to see the wording. The system suddenly enlarged and the ink became bolder.[Welcome Back Killan Quinn]Killan’s heartbeat skipped twice, he thought desperately on what it could be, before he could even get to question it, the answer appeared.[I am an ancient gourmet wealth system][You made a pact with me][You have to fulfill my obligations]Killan was dumbfounded! He never remembered making a pact with any human nor a machine. He loo
Chapter Four: Cold Control.
“This has really been so amazing, fortunately, I am obliged to announce the presence of one of Longrich’s latest investors, a man of integrity. Despite being behind schedule, he came with special bounties, Infact, all the meals for this very occasion were sponsored by him.” The loud voice of the commentator filled the air.The murmurs in the room intensified. Feeding over a hundred wealthy people isn’t possible for an average person. “Please join me as I welcome to the party…….”It’s him, the recipe thief! The plagiarist! Isn’t that Mr Calvary’s recipe plagiarist? What effrontery he possesses to show up here! The spiteful words weren’t whispered, they were said aloud, Killan didn’t know his face was that negatively popular already, thanks to Henry’s cunning move when he tried to reclaim his recipe, as a result of it, he got blacklisted as a chef—now, his presence in rooms were met with raw hatred.“Join me as I welcome Mr Killian Quinn to the table.” The commentator concluded, igno
Chapter 5: Underdog Rises.
Damn!Killan cursed inwardly as he almost lost his balance trying to avoid the incoming car. He had just arrived at the car park in the Armani mall, got down from the cab and headed towards the front entrance when a luxurious Rolls Royce zoomed past him. Two more inches of the car towards him, I would have been badly injured or worse, killed. He rebuked that desperately. He gathered himself and made towards the front door of the luxurious seventeen storey building, a massive space befitting such a prestigious brand as Giorgio Armani. The security guard at the door stared blankly at him with a weird expression on his face. Killan, noting the pattern, wasn't surprised but he still approached him politely.“Hello.” He said calmly.“Are you here to…..seek employment?” The younger man said bluntly.Killan smiled, despite having gotten used to that treatment these past few days, he still didn’t like it.“I am here to shop for tailored suits.” He responded calmly. After a few seconds hesita
Chapter 6: Down Under.
[The countdown; 20, 19, 18……6,5,4,3,2! Pause mission accomplished][Congratulations Killan Quinn]Killan held his chest as his heart thumped loudly, if his credit card hadn’t swiped its last few dollars, he would have ended up in the pool of his own blood, again!“That was freaking close!”“Are you okay sir?” The attendant at the Richard Milli store questioned worriedly as she handed back to him his credit card. Her emerald green eyeballs shifted wearily.“No thank you, you can pack my purchases, the cab awaits.”The woman’s brow creased slightly before she sank her face back to its neutral form, it was the strangest occurrence that a man spent over six million dollars on the spot came in a fucking cab. To Killan’s relief, she kept her opinion to herself and called on the messengers to walk the generous customer to his car.Killan felt powerful! A relief to the agitation he had felt a few minutes earlier when he had almost exceeded the stipulated timeframe. Two hefty men followed him
Chapter 7: The Auction.
Killan Quinn was right, a glitch had happened! He was setting up his phone to connect with the rest of the world when a knock sounded at his door. He was quite reluctant as the last time he had a visitation, it was his damn divorce papers. He finally decided to check it out now, just as presumed, it was a delivery guy.The lanky guy handed a thin envelope to him and Killan signed where necessary. He checked the envelope immediately, there was a solid printed invite and a small note with handwritten letters,“A special gift from me to you loser, a regular ticket to Storybroke auction, from H.C”Killan laughed hysterically, it felt good to know that his presence at Longrich hotel had rocked Henry Calvary’s ego up. He wondered desperately how he got his apartment location but Killan didn’t dwell too long on that, he read through the invite. It was a top tier auction at one of the ancient Emperor's buildings which ended up as a high class museum.Killan was never an art enthusiast, he kn
Chapter 8: Who Won The World?
“…..the cookbook sold for $200,000 dollars.”Gasps filled the room.Millions of questions filled the air, who would be crazy enough to buy a mere recipe diary that pricey. Henry turned right in time to see Killan’s bidding tab. He closed his eyes to get his mind together, it was totally unbelievable that Killan had ousted him in the bid let alone afford that much for it.He swallowed his disgust and humiliation as the auction proceeded, the next was a painting, a really expressive piece, the commentator’s voice lowered as he spoke, a loud opera filled the background, multiple red lights shone on the stage giving it a dire vibe.“The emperor painted this out in sorrow, history had it that he made this piece on the last day he ever made a dish, his lover was killed to stop him from cooking, an abominable hobby for a charismatic leader, there he was, a tired chef, ingredients falling off his plate and the cooking fire burning out of control….”Killan felt a teardrop from his left eye, he
