Boss Fight III
It was one thing to make a threat, and it was another to see it through. Kenan swayed on his feet, his mana completely bottomed out as his vision seemed to go blank for a second. The shaman tried to capitalize on that as the goblin waved the staff in its hands. But whatever it was trying to do, it had to call off as a quick barrage of one staff and one wand-empowered Basic Fire Bullet flew at the shaman. The goblin jumped back in fright, its shield coming into existence. And while it was safe from damage, there was no holding back the concussive force released from the skills' impact. It was thrown back head over heels before crashing down with a dull thud. Kenan took a step forward, but a staff on his shoulder brought his movement to a halt."You're barely standing as it is. Take a back seat on this one. I'll handle this shaman." Kenan frowned. "Kate, this isn't the time for this. It's dangerous...""This is exactly the time for this, Kenan! You
King Bejin
**SOMEWHERE ON HORTA**Bejin grunted softly as he finished, the gasp from the elf in his grasp signaling that she too had come to the climax of their coupling. He flung her off his body, settling back onto his throne as he pulled his massive owlbear skin robe closer to his body. He sneered at the quivering elf, then turned to his guards who had been watching their coupling from the side in complete silence."This one barely made any sound. Send her back to the pens, give her half the rations she asked for. She was not as enthusiastic as she claimed to be when she asked for an audience with me." Bejin turned to the elf. "Or do you have any protest about my kindness?"The elf, covered in bruises and unmentionable fluids mixed with sweat, shook her head. Perhaps at some point she had been a beauty—she still was, though her missing eye diminished it slightly, along with the dirty clothes she had on.The elf shakily got to her feet, her eyes glistening
Confrontations
[Quest 5: Home-maker II: Level up the system pylon to level 2 and unlock basic structures. Menagerie (0/1) Armory (0/1) Watchtower (0/4)] [Quest 6: Home-maker III: Successfully grow 1 plant in your garden.] [Quest 7: The Art Of Love: Consummate your marriage. REWARDS: +1200 EXP EACH, 1 BASIC SKILL SELECTION] Kate kept looking at the quests left that they had to deal with. She was worried. Quest 7 was just... it was crazy. It was barely more than a day ago she was seeing Kenan in videos and photos doing nasty things with her sister. And now this system expects her to just... just... sleep with him! She huffed in annoyance, then turned to the side. Her eyes fell on Kenan. He was going through the Basic Farmstead Bundle. Not that there was much inside of it—just a hoe, shovel, a rake, a small trowel, a watering can, and a bag of seeds that looked like they were corn, except the damn things were blue. After that,
Planting Seeds
Kenan took a closer look at the garden in front of him. Definitely not large enough to fully grow the things that would keep them alive, but for now, this was a start. He was also trying his best not to think about his conversation with Kate. So without a doubt, he would be putting all of his attention into the task that was before him. In all honesty, it just seemed as if with Kate, he took one step forward and two steps backward. But he couldn't blame her. No matter what anybody wanted to say, it couldn't have been easy for her to have seen him in such a state with her sister—regardless of the story behind it. But much more than that, Kenan was nervous. In his emotional state, he'd told Kate that he'd gone to kill her sister. Not that it was a lie, but that was a part of his life he'd wanted to keep buried forever. He had no idea how or what he could do or say when she came to confront him about that, because he wasn't sure he could keep lying to her about that part of hi
Bonnet Corn
DAY 3:Kenan could not believe his eyes. After yesterday, he and Kate had been stable enough to spend the rest of their time training and trying to understand their skills. He'd also taken the time to give her some pointers on how to use her spear in the event she was forced into close-quarters combat. It had been particularly difficult since Kate was rather rigid in her approach. Kenan had to teach her to rely on her feet—movement and placement were one of, if not the most important aspects of combat. But that was neither here nor there, because what surprised him the most was the fact that he was looking at waist-high corn stalks. But then again, these didn't look like corn stalks. The corn grew from the tip in bunches of five to ten, and they grew from a single focal point similar to how palm kernels grew. The way the corn grew out made them look like the stalk was wearing a hat, which pretty much explained why it was called Bonnet Corn. There were at least ten stalks, with no fewe
Structures
**DAY 3**[Quest 6: Home-maker III (Complete): Successfully grow 1 plant in your garden. Reward: +200 exp each! +100 Garden exp][Your Bonnet Corn has germinated. +100 Garden exp. Time until harvest: 1 hour 8 minutes][Pylon has gained 100 exp!]Kate went over the same notifications that Kenan had gone over a few hours ago. It was astounding that just growing things would help them level up, and she suspected that wasn't the limit of it all. Kenan was right—they had to live. As crazy as it sounded, they had to build a life for themselves here. She couldn't tell just how far it went. Farming? Homesteading? Having kids? She blushed furiously. At the moment, it just felt as if she was unnecessarily holding onto her anger at him.But at the same time, that feeling of betrayal always popped up, twisting at her insides. And then there was the darker, more sinister secret in the room that Kenan had somehow still evaded. She wanted answers, but she wasn't going to press or push him. After all
Learning Zone
**DAY 4:**Kenan was annoyed—mainly at himself, but he hadn't been able to do anything productive with the rest of the day yesterday. Not with how upset Kate had been, considering she'd only given him basic grunts and one-word answers. But she could only keep him silent for so long—she knew this more than anything. In that regard, Kenan had to be thankful to this place, because no matter the problem, it still forced them to deal with it. There was no running away, and you could only keep someone silent for so long with your lives on the line.Kenan hadn't even harvested the Bonnet Corn yesterday. It had just been really awkward, and Kenan didn't want to do it himself—not just for anything, but the fact that Kate would get upset if she saw him acting like he hadn't done anything wrong. Not that he had, but sometimes you couldn't ever attach logic to a woman. Matters of the heart were always tricky, and they were quite sensitive to it. He sighed, then ran a hand over his head. He was ge
Leveling Up Structures
Day 4:There was a dull rumble of energy that seemed to run through the clearing. The cabin expanded right in front of their very eyes. And while it didn't get that much bigger, it now had a chimney popping out from behind it and also a porch. It wasn't that much extra space, but even the system classified it as a basic structure. At this current stage, it seemed like this was more than enough. Kate turned to Kenan."You probably still have things to plant. So let's run through this quickly. I want to get some practice in and see just what—or how far—this new boon can take us."Kenan raised an eyebrow at Kate's words as he pointed out to her, "That boon will only take effect after you've rested. And we just woke up. If you want to see any gains, it would only be until tomorrow. So let's finish up here, get those seeds planted. Probably buy that kitchen bundle in the system store, shower, and get some breakfast. The rations are pretty much out—we've been eating sandwiches for three day
Afterglow
**DAY 5:**Kate woke up first. It was rather sudden, her awareness over the place as the memories of last night ran wild within her head. And then her awareness deepened as she recognized the sticky wet trail from her mouth as drool—even crazier was that it was all over Kenan's chest. She got up slowly, but as she'd come to realize in the last couple of years they'd been together, sex had never felt so good. Crazy enough that they'd never made it back to the cabin. She was excited, and she felt giddy in a way she never had before. Was this what it felt like to be a wife? It was amazing."I haven't seen you wake up with a smile like that in a while."Kenan's voice broke through and dragged her from the depths of her thoughts. Kate's cheeks burned red as she threw a slap on Kenan's chest."Shut up!" she squealed as she tried to pick herself off of him. But Kenan wasn't letting that happen as he stretched out his arms and grabbed her, holding her tight and not letting her get even a sing
Magic Eye
DAY 6:Kate winced slightly, the glare of sunlight making her eyes water and burn. She was still trying to focus and get used to her new vision. Magic Eye. How could she have been such a fool? It was right there in the name and the skill description. Her eyes had literally become magic eyes. She winced softly as she looked at Kenan with her hands over her face. It didn't do much to stop the glare of the sun, but it was better than dealing with it directly.Kenan was over to the side, replanting his crops for the day. The garden had leveled up again to level seven, and they'd gained enough exp from the garden and the harvesting to get the level gauge for the pylon to slightly over a thousand—10% of the requirements to get to level two.But still, it wasn't as fast as they would have liked. The territory was shrinking, and even though it had been barely noticeable during the first two days, it was now very noticeable. They couldn't afford to spend exp on any other structure because they
