The Shaman Falls
Kenan had been holding onto his skill for the most opportune time to unleash it. He had to ensure he caught both hobgoblins off guard. He fired a wind bullet at both the shaman and the warrior. The warrior got hit in the stomach, stumbling and buying Kenan extra time to reach the shaman. The shaman, on the other hand, was safely behind its barrier—the same barrier that had been around the warrior only moments ago.It made Kenan realize two things. The shaman couldn't keep the barrier up simultaneously for both itself and the warrior, which meant that in the event of an attack on both of them, the shaman would prioritize keeping itself safe. In that moment, Kenan dug his heel deep into the earth, bringing himself to a halt as he fired off another wind bullet at the shaman.Once more, the shaman's barrier came alive to its defense, keeping it safe and buying Kenan enough time to use his half-turn moment to
Pylon Level 1
Kate could hardly breathe. How could she? The stench of dead bodies was heavy in the air, and there was really nothing she could do about it. Not that she'd tried looking for a solution—she felt she had a greater job to deal with. She looked to the side where Kenan had fallen asleep. She'd tried to move him into the tent, but she wasn't nearly as strong as he was, even with the addition of stats. So she'd brought out one of the bedrolls and successfully moved him on top of it.Kate sighed as she took in the sight of all the carnage around her. She'd gotten herself injured literally at the end of the first wave, which meant he'd been forced to face the second and third waves by himself just to protect her and survive. It didn't change what he'd done, but the knowledge that he'd fought his hardest for both of them made the pain she felt a little less. At least... he still loved her. Heartbreak or not, Kate could still tell. Just because she was angry didn't mean she was
Introduction To Skills
[Your Active Skill Basic Fire Bullet has reached Level 1! Range and speed of the bullet have slightly increased. Cost has slightly reduced.]Kate blinked. It seemed almost blowing her own face off had been enough to get her Basic Fire Bullet skill to level one. She'd have to check for herself just how much it had changed. Kenan had told her he'd trained, but knowing her husband, the fool would have just repeated the same action over and over again.Kate paused. Her husband? Was he really her husband? After everything that had happened, everything he'd done to her—regardless of the end of the world, did she still want to be with him? Kate shook her head. She had no answers to these questions. Survival was more important right now, though to be honest, she hadn't stopped thinking about the quest the system had given. Twelve hundred exp just to consummate their marriage. Yeah, some things didn't add up."We can bring three of our stats up to level two with th
Inspection Of The Clearing
Kenan couldn't sleep, so the first thing he did was move all the extra bodies to the pile he'd already made. Then he took inventory. The weapons the goblins had left behind were a welcome addition to his current arsenal, but apart from the shaman's staff, everything else looked low quality. Even the longsword the warrior hobgoblin had left behind was rusted at the hilt and chipped in other areas. It wouldn't last long, and compared to the weapons the system had given them, they really weren't up to par.Which was why the longsword and staff were the only things Kenan took. The daggers the goblins had held were pretty much jagged pieces of metal sharpened with filthy rags wrapped around one end as handles. Those were more likely to kill him than help him kill anything. Beyond that, he'd made sure to get used to the new perimeter. He had enough distance that from the porch of the cabin, he could fire a significant number of arrows before any monster got close. The ga
The Staff And The Wand
DAY 2.TIME UNTIL NEXT WAVE: 1 HOUR"Are you sure about this?"Kate asked as she gave Kenan a rather worried look. He shrugged."I mean, what's the worst that can happen? Just wave the wand and use it to cast your skill. You're not going to glow, and you don't need to scream Avada Kedavra.""Seriously?" She gave him a deadpan look."Just cast the damn skill, Kate. Your mana is going to need time to regenerate. A single cast each, for the wand and for the shaman staff. They might be the edge we both need for the incoming waves."Kate rolled her eyes but didn't argue anymore as she held the staff up, pointing it in the direction of one of the face-trees."Basic Fire Bullet!"The telltale fiery red spell circle came to life in front of the staff. In an instant—and in that same instant—it fired off the fire bullet at a speed that was most assuredly bullet-like. It flew across the clearing, leaving a blazing trai
Goblin Riders
The goblin riders were pretty much goblins sitting astride wild dogs. The only problem with these particular mobs was the fact that it almost seemed as if the goblins had been fused with the wild dogs—like some grotesque caricature of a centaur. Yet instead of a man with the lower body of a horse, it was wild dogs with the torsos of goblins growing out of their backs.*Fwoosh! Thunk!*Kenan didn't waste time as his first arrow flew true from his bow. It caught the first goblin rider in the middle of its skull, punching clean through and bursting out the other side. The goblin slumped backward for a few seconds before raising its hand and pulling the arrow out—much to Kenan and Kate's shock."What the hell?" Kenan asked in surprise. He turned to Kate. "Don't hold back! Use everything!"As if that was the sign they were waiting for, the goblin riders rushed forward—all ten of them. If not for the weird fusion, it would be more apt to say they were u
Level Up!
Kate couldn't hold it anymore. She turned to the side and heaved, her stomach pouring out what was left in it. She threw a withering glare at Kenan, but he was so engrossed in his task that he didn't notice. She took a step back, watching as he stacked the last of the bodies. The clearing was a little larger now than before, so even with the amount of bodies they had available to them, it wasn't nearly enough to create a barricade of any significance. But it was still enough to create something that would not only impede the incoming wave of thirty goblins but perhaps even whittle them down so they wouldn't have to deal with all of them at once.So the same idea that Kenan had always had was put into action—using the bodies as a sort of barricade. He stacked them over each other to create a very low wall from one end of the clearing to the next. There wasn't nearly enough to create a barrier high enough to help them against the waves, but it was enough for what Kenan had in
30 Goblins Down
Goblins moved across the clearing ablaze and in pain. Kenan rushed at them with a roar as the longsword in his hand flashed from left to right, cleaving heads from shoulders. It was total carnage—enough that he was no longer paying attention to how many of these monsters they were bringing down. With the flames and scent of burning bodies filling the air, instinct took over.A quick sidestep to the left as a goblin with its head on fire moved past him. By this point, Kate had already abandoned her shield, and the wand was held in her left hand while the shaman staff was held in her right. She fired off a Basic Earth Bullet, blasting the fiery goblin's head apart, then leveled the staff at the goblins beyond the fire line they'd created, blasting off a Basic Fire Bullet this time with greater power and impact. Kenan, on the other hand, just moved like a man possessed—and perhaps maybe he was.He tore into the goblins like a wild animal, the longsword flashing only o
Boss Fight I
Kenan had 330 exp left, but he didn't seem particularly inclined to use it—not even to raise his skills. But not doing so would make him a hypocrite. After all, he'd been the one to suggest they don't hold anything back and try as hard as they could to raise their skills to the next level in preparation for this boss fight that was coming their way. He needed an extra 180 exp to raise his Basic Wind Bullet to level two, about 30 to raise his new active skill to level one, and then another 132 exp to raise his Basic Weapons Mastery to level two. In total, 342 exp. He was twelve exp short, so he'd have to sacrifice one thing. The choice was rather easy.[180 exp spent! Basic Wind Bullet has reached level 2! Range, cast time, and damage increased. You can now easily attach this skill to your weapons and attacks.][132 exp spent! Basic Weapons Mastery has reached level 2! Damage with all weapons +5%, the cost for weapon-based skills -5%]Kenan frowned. His ski
Boss Fight II
Kenan took stock of his options—a giant goblin, well, taller than the norm, and two goblin warriors that were armored like they'd just been plucked out of the pages of a medieval fantasy book. It was worrying to say the least, but he was confident. He'd already gone up against more than ten opponents at once by the time he was fifteen. There was no use overthinking it. All he had to do was just... fight.Kenan shot forward, shield and sword held out, leaving himself completely open to attack. He even went as far as to start screaming as he approached. While he couldn't exactly say just how intelligent these goblins were, he hoped they could at least recognize fear and desperation—the very image he was trying to portray to them right now. Of course, it wasn't exactly wrong. Kenan really was scared and desperate, but not to the point he would be so incredibly reckless with his life. The enemies didn't know that, though. The warrior goblins rushed ahead, a confident l
