91: Ninjas X Monsters
The beautiful female stood there without an iota of emotion or humanity in her expression. Juno could instantly tell who she was, even though Yoshi did not just say it. The resemblance was striking. But Juno could hardly believe it.How could his master’s dead sister stand there, looking every bit alive and well? What would Ren have said if he could see the sister he had long searched for, right now? “What have you done?” His voice escaped in a broken whisper. The realization exhausted him in all ramifications. Mentally, physically, emotionally and otherwise. Yoshi laughed again, dryly. “Ren seemed to be missing his sister so much. I simply brought her back to life.” His gaze never left his cousin’s face. “Come on, I expect a sappy reunion. At best, I expect your gratitude.”“Hmm.” Nyx rubbed his chin, looking thoughtful for a moment. “I didn't think she was this beautiful. The sister.”Yoshi frowned. “What the hell are you talking about?”A humorless sound escaped from Nyx’s gut.
92: Imperfect Engines
“Drag him in here! Chop chop!” Yoshi’s voice was barely heard over the battle din. No one paid him any attention. But he was satisfied with his achievement so far. He had injected Ren’s body with a lethal drug that he recently developed. One that was never supposed to work on an ordinary human. Which only confirmed one suspicion that had burned in his mind all this time. Whatever had happened to his cousin had managed to dull his humanity. Ren was not purely human anymore. And it was Yoshi’s job to find out what he was. He had received orders from the higher-ups, but he could not deny that this experiment would satisfy his personal curiosity. And help him actualize a burning revenge for the humiliation meted to him a few weeks ago. The Ninjas were all too busy fighting for their lives to see what had just happened to their Headmaster. Kurosaki fought hard to protect his sister who was weak and injured, brandishing his blazing hot weapon against the modified soldiers that lunged.
93: Priorities
Shin blinked, confused for a moment. “Who is Hana, again?” “Your wife!” Juno yelled, agitated. “I just got a call from the Blackthorn family! They have her!” “What?” Yoshi tried to rise at the mention of the Blackthorn name. But the blood spurting from his mouth made him unable to speak any further, and the blinding pain that lashed through his body crippled him so terribly, he could barely move. “What do you mean the Blackthorn family?” he yelled. “What business do you have with them?! Did they send you here to destroy what is left of my fucking life?!” Juno glanced at him briefly, confused. “What is he talking about?” he muttered under his breath, stalking towards his Headmaster. “Ren, is that you?” he asked softly, but a few more steps closer, and he knew that it wasn't his Headmaster. The blue dust swirling in those hazel irises suggested the presence of one of the spirits. And judging from the calm aura that exuded from him, he could tell it was not the dragon spirit.“Guardi
94: Deal With The Devils
“Aht aht! Calm your horses, sire.” Rowan’s voice dripped mockery as he stepped forward. “We've heard your scores, of course. But I must warn you. This is not the time and place for such displays.” Shin’s jaw ticked terribly as he stared from man to man. “I don't want any trouble. I just want my wife.” “The one you sort the Blackthorn family's permission to marry or which? The one you took away on a fucking motorbike?” Rain heaved a sigh and shoved his fingers through his hair. “Guys,” he added in a softer tone, “that was hilarious. But, let's not do this, okay? This whole back and forth thing is only going to hurt our sister more. So, Mr. Carter…why don't we all just head in and have a little chat over some wine?”Shin Nightfall took his time observing the triplets, even though his heart slammed with anxiety over the absence of Hana upon his arrival. His initial plan had been bursting into the mansion and ransacking it until he found Hana. Then storming out of the place with her sa
95: Save The Kohāi
“Oh! Look who we have here!” Rowan’s voice rang out, deep and mocking. “Our free and refreshed sister.”Shin blinked in surprise and tore his gaze from her. “What is this?” He glared from each of the triplets’ face to their father’s, seething with rage. “She was home all along?”“What did they tell you?” Hana demanded, stepping forward. “Why are you here?” Apprehension and trepidation burned in her eyes. “Listen, the aide got a photo text of you all bloodied and tied up in a sort of dungeon, with a subtle threat attached. They wanted your husband to come get you, or you’re dead. So…” Shin paused, scratching his brow, “here I am. And they told me you were on a boat to Athens.”“What?!” Hana whirled on her father and brothers, eyes smarting. “What is this? What are you up to?” Soren’s eyes flashed dangerously. “Hana, sweetheart. This is the first time we’re officially meeting your so-called husband. Why don’t you behave yourself?”Her hands curled into fists at her side. Rage rose to
96: I'M NO HERO!
Shin felt a chill run down his spine the longer he stared at the egregious state of Juno’s pallor. It was a state of immense unrest which had Shin wondering what might have happened in the lab, following the moments before the explosion. The Kohāi had not moved in a long time since Shin squatted next to his body. And the Guardian Ninja soon discovered why. It was another one of the telltales of a truth that Shin was not yet ready to accept. The lower side of Juno’s abdomen had been pierced by a thick shrapnel of metal. Probably happened in the explosion. And he had lost too much blood as well as oxygen flow to vital organs. Shin could tell all this just by looking at him lying there so still amd pale. He had hoped to be of help in the way he could…but it turned out he was too late to even do a thing. Juno was gone, in the blink of an eye. Not a goodbye, not a warning. Just when the Guardian Ninja was beginning to get a little fond of— “NOOO!!!” His head fell back in a roar th
97: Blood Reunion
“Rei Carter, you have to listen to me—” SLASH! Her coarse nails raked diagonally across his face, drawing blood and screaming in his face. “Ren, you have to wake up! It’s me, Rei!” Shin winced in pain, realizing she hadn't been bluffing with her threat earlier. He had just lifted his arms to throw her off when Kurosaki burst into the space with a loud yell. “Get off him you monster!” Kurosaki rammed the hilt of his blade so hard into the back of her head, Rei Carter fell off Shin’s neck and passed out. His hands dropped to his knees as he panted hard. “Man! How is she not dead like the rest?” Shin’s spirit crashed harder. “They’re all…dead?” “Come on! We have to go!” Kurosaki pulled Shin away before he could protest or reach for Rei again, running until they burst out of the lab into the cold morning air. Kinosaki and Ryota lay side by side on the ground, knocked out, covered in soot and slime. “Please,” Kurosaki turned pleading eyes filled with tears on his Headmaster
98: Last Moments and Regrets
The siblings stayed that way for a long time, weeping and holding each other. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” Ren pleaded the whole time. His heart tore with grief and relief. And when he pulled back, he could hardly recognize his beautiful sister, the fairest of them all. “W-what happened? I thought you were..” Rei nodded, wiping the tears that streamed down her cheeks. “Dead. Yeah, I thought as much. I stopped waiting around when I realized you might not even know what happened.” Ren frowned and sat up. “Tell me everything.” He pulled her up by her wrist and they sat there on the interlocked floor, their knees touching. “We didn't die in that clinical trial,” she began in a voice thick with pain, avoiding her brother’s gaze. “None of the trial patients died...at first. Someone did it to frame you, but whatever they mixed in the drugs made our bodies weak and almost useless. We were better off dead.” Her voice caught in her throat and she took a moment. Ren waited patiently as he gen
99: The Shadow Assassin
It rained gunshots non-stop for the next ten minutes. The air stank with gunpowder and the walls cracked under the pressure. The morning sun was coming up hard and beating down against Ren’s head, back and neck. But it did not stop him from pulling his sister to safety. “Rei! Hey! Stay awake!” But she was fast slipping into an unconscious state. “You have to leave me here. One of us must survive. Our parents…they—they won’t…” “Just save your breath!” Ren ducked as he searched his pockets for his phone. “I’ll get help!” But his phone was not on him. Again. “AARGHHH! FUCK!” It was at this moment that he was most devastated about the recent disorganized state of his life, with the unwanted possession of his body. “My phone, I must have lost it somewhere,” he muttered under his breath, agitated. “It doesn't matter. Ren, come on. Look at me.” Rei's breaking voice forced his gaze on her face. “If you’re not going to kill me, then you must get out of here. Now. It's
100: The Mountain Of Truth
The assassin would not disclose who sent him to attack Ren. He just launched further attack with everything he got. Moves that were seriously lacking in comparison to the skills Ren acquired during the academy’s Okdu training. Ren was infuriated. He had his hands full trying to defend himself against the assassin, wondering who might have sent him, and what they wanted with him. He also found his gaze straying to his sister’s body every now and then. The story she had told him was still too shocking to be accepted. How could those twenty-eight patients have been alive all this time? Who would engineer this scheme, and why? Why would anyone target him? He just could not understand it, any of the things happening in his life anymore. The police sirens were getting closer and Ren knew this had to end soon if he wanted to get himself and Rei out of there. But how could he do that when the assassin bastard just cut a tendon in his leg? He staggered back, dodging fast as the
