81: Spoilsport
Yoshi’s jaw dropped as the sickening crackling of bones kept filling his ears and numbing him down to his bones. It was not his bones being damaged, but he could feel the impact where he stood, frozen. He could not believe his eyes. But he could at some point, given the circumstantial events that had occurred very recently, with his cousin. “Ren! Stop it!” But his cousin was far gone. Pummeling hard into the face of the man at his mercy. Another man in the same attire as the victim lunged, but Nyx caught the man by his neck and CRASH! Smashed both heads in his grip straight into each other. Both men wailed in anguish as blood poured from their nostrils and foreheads like fountains. Yoshi looked around frantically, seeking for a way to stop his cousin. And that's when he saw the girl hurdled by a small corner behind one of the couches, trembling as she watched the violent scene unfold. Her face was bloated and messy with streaks of tears and mascara, but Yoshi could see that she
82: The HeadMaster's Team
Juno was stunned about his master’s little to zero reaction to what he had just reported. Until he remembered that the man standing there at that moment, was not really his master, but the notorious dragon spirit. After another moment of standing still and absorbing the Kohāi’s words, Nyx ventured out the door into the hallway. Juno immediately followed on his tail. “Are you not worried about her?” “Why should I be?” “She's your wife.”“You know that's not true.”“Well she's the wife of the man whose body you occupy right now. And even if you don't care, she is very important to Ren Carter.”Nyx stopped in his steps and turned to glare at Juno. “Are you raising your voice at me?” Juno heaved a sigh and hung his head. “I just need you to take her more seriously, that's all.”“She's a grown woman, lad. She'll find her way home.”“No, no,” Juno shook his head, the lines of his face contorting in worry. “I..I just think it's strange that she specifically mentioned having dinner with
83: Circus Show
“Meet the top performing student of the academy. Ryota-san. S-level Ninja.”Nyx observed with bored interest as Ryota stepped forward with a smug grin and a dramatic curtsy. “It’s an honor to be on the Headmaster’s team.” There was a glint of mischief in Ryota’s eyes as he stepped closer, close enough to irritate the dragon fire lord. “Have you thought about my offer?” Before Nyx could dish the sarcastic response that burned in his chest, Juno jumped forward, having caught the whisper. “Move away, Ryota. I have to introduce others.”Ryota shrugged and moved a bit reluctantly. And the next Ninja came forward with hunched shoulders. “And this is Sato Mane. Level nine shadow Ninja.”Nyx waved his hand dismissively. “I don't have to know their ranks, do I? Their names are enough hassle to memorize.”Sato rolled his eyes as he curtsied. “A pleasure to serve you, Headmaster,” he muttered, the last word dripping sarcasm. The quiet Akira was the next to be introduced. He kept his violet ey
84: The Kill Zone
“Sato-san, do you think you can help us with directions?” Sato glanced at Juno as the rest of the Ninjas piled into the Toyota HiAce which was parked in a hidden part of the quarters. “Why me?” “I mean, it just seems like you've been to this dojo before, you know?” Sato shoved his fingers through his hair and looked away, conflicted. “Actually, I haven't. But I'll try.”Without another word, he got into the vehicle while Juno stood there for a while, wondering how successful this mission could be. Eventually, he took the wheel. Nyx took the passenger seat. The rest of them took the seats in the back. The vehicle had only cruised down the highway for about ten minutes when Ryota broke the uncomfortable silence in the air. “So, what's your story?” he addressed Sato, who ignored him like he wasn't even in the vehicle, sitting right next to him. “How'd you get into the academy?” Ryota pressed on, missing the cue that Sato did not wish to utter a word to him. “Hey,” Ryota poked his
85: Fight To Death
Everyone in the vehicle watched in tense silence as the men in dark coats moved stealthily, carrying a dozen more boxes into the building. “What do you think could be in those boxes?” Kinosaki whispered. Nyx scoffed, like he knew a secret no one else did. “Look closely, all of you. What do you think they could contain? Jewelries? Gold?” The Ninjas were silent for a long moment. Until it clicked. And Juno was the first to speak. “No way…” “Could those be dead bodies?” Kurosaki’s voice dripped with disbelief, but the dark gleam in his eyes was proof that he knew the answer to his question already. Juno blinked in Nyx’s direction. He wanted to mention that this could be the right place to search for the dead bodies missing from OakHills hospital. Because...what were the odds? But he knew that it would be useless to mention it again, because it was not the dragon fire lord’s priority as he's established in a pretty conclusive manner. He cleared his throat, glancing at Akir
86: Blue Monsters, Modified Soldiers
“Damn. These biotech folks did a fucking clean job.”Roko Ikagawa whistled as he watched the bodies rise one after the other, all pale blue skin, glowing lenses and sinew. Akira and Sato blinked in surprise and shock. They could not believe what they were seeing. The supposed warriors moved like zombies. But there was something eerie and wrong about them, an underlying terror that the world was yet to behold. Roko turned to face them, grinning. “Behold, our modified soldiers. Have I made the introductions yet?”Sato glanced at the first zombie-like being which approached closer. “Soldiers or warriors? I mean, they pretty much look like zombies to me.”Jiro chuckled drily. “Zombies, huh?” Sato was just about to respond when something flew across the space with alarming speed. He was one second away from reacting when—SLASH! The zombie-like being dragged his coarse fingernails across Sato’s left cheek. The scratch left a sting hot enough to bring Sato to his knees, groaning. Akir
87: Harbingers
The sight of Akira bleeding out on the floor unleashed something feral inside Miku’s mortal being. Something that had been locked away for too long. Who would remain without empathy, seeing their comrades losing their life with each blood that pumped out of their gaping abdomen wound? Definitely not Miku Sanchez. The giant with the ugly horn charged towards a defenseless Akira again. Miku could not stand by and watch. With a loud, guttural cry, she zapped across the space like lightning, took a power flight in the air and landed against the giant's back. Locking her legs tight around its midriff, she attacked with blind rage. SLASH! SLASH!! SLASH!!!She tore her fingernails across every inch of its body she could reach, infusing electric currents that had the monster shrieking in agony, until it crumpled to the ground in a weak state. The rest of the team witnessed the carnage she unleashed, each of them dumbfounded to the core. All except Nyx, who watched the scene unfold with a
88: The Missing Link
Koshi took a step back like an overlord while the minions of the dojo charged forward. But the mortal martial artists were not prepared for the velocity of the dragon fire lord's power. Even though they were quite a fearsome bunch. Some had lightning abilities. A few others were like the metal bending Koshi, only slower. “Come at me, bastards,” Nyx beckoned with a sinister grin. “Show me what you've got.” And the aloof mortals did. SLAM! CRASH! More than five pairs of fists crashed into Nyx with terrifying momentum. The blows were packed with supernatural strength that was enough to render any mortal man crippled or in the worst case scenario…dead. But he did not flinch, not even for a second. The mortals’ eyes widened in shock. “What the fuck? Who is he?” Nyx's grin fluctuated between charming and sinister. “Oh, no worries. I'll tell you.” In the next instant, before anyone could fathom what he was on about, or what he could possibly do, Nyx moved across the space w
89: Family Or Enemies?
It was past 4am when Nyx dragged Roko Ikagawa into the ruins of the boxing ring, where the blue monsters lay in a massive heap, defeated.Meanwhile, the Ninjas were gathered around Akira and Sato, who were badly injured and unconscious.Nyx whistled as he swept his gaze around the place. “Damn. You lot surprise me.”Juno stepped forward wearing a forlorn expression. “Do you think you can help them? They're weak. Akira might be dying from his abdomen injury.”“GRR. There's nothing I can do. My powers are for destruction, not healing, as you can see..” He tossed a terribly injured and unconscious Roko to the ground like a bag of potatoes. Juno stared at the dojo’s Sensei for a while, then his attention was back on the dragon fire lord. “You can try. Maybe cauterize their injuries while we try to get them back to the academy.” There was something so terribly hopeless in his tone that made Nyx pause and observe the Kohāi. “And what about the dead bodies? Find anyone? Find Ren’s sister?”
90: A Path Of Destruction
“Are we sure about this?” Ryota’s voice was thick with skepticism as the vehicle rolled down the bumpy road that led to Eclipse Biolab, the firm which Yoshi had founded single-handedly after attending one of the best schools in Tokyo. “Sure about what?” Juno demanded in an irritated tone. He was not in a very good mood, given how things had gone down at the dojo. He was especially worried that Rei’s dead body alongside the others from OakHills had not been found. To him, the only reason they were headed to the biotech lab was to find those bodies. But something about this particular movement did not sit right with him. If it was up to him, he would have suggested they should turn right back and maybe head to a hospital for Sato and Akira’s sake. But two things were awfully true at the moment. He knew that Ren would have wanted to find his sister’s body more than anything else. And he also knew that given the extent of Sato and Akira’s injuries, the hospital was a bad idea. Thankfu
