CHAPTER FIFTY-TWOHe dodged at once behind the flowers planted very close to the quarters and waited for the footsteps to recede, but they appeared to be very slow, even though they were heavy. He remained behind the little garden for almost a minute, waiting anxiously for the footsteps to stop, and when he peeped through the garden, he was unable to see anyone, just footsteps approaching from miles away.“Who the hell could that be?” He asked himself, and peeped again, lifting his head a bit, but his efforts to know who was approaching seemed really futile as the path across seemed very much empty.Suddenly, the footsteps stopped, but he wasn’t sure if it was safe to come out, and so he waited for a few seconds to be sure that they were not going to come back. When he was sure that it was safe to come out, he slowly tiptoed out of the back of the garden and continued moving back to the van, but was so careful with his steps and scoured the entire area with his eyes just in case anyon

CHAPTER FIFTY-THREERiley looked at his mother, and felt so sorry for her, feeling a little guilty for putting her in that kind of situation.“This is all my fault.”“Don’t say that, Riley. Those men were clearly dangerous men, but I don’t know what they wanted.”Unable to get himself to tell his mother what they really wanted, Riley looked away, as he could no longer look her in the eyes.He turned toward the window, and tried to move his brother, but he realized that it was too dangerous, and that made him to stop. He looked through the windows for a while, and there was only one idea coming into his mind, which he found really difficult to bring up.“What is it, Riley?” His mother asked, seeing how he turned to look at her, after stepping backward from the window.“She is not going to like this.” Riley thought to himself, as he struggled to let the wires out of his mouth.“What is wrong?”“Mum? You will have to jump and grab Sammy from inside.” Riley said with a low tone, but his m

CHAPTER FIFTY-FOUR“Keep your hands where I can see them! Turn around slowly!”Riley raised his hands in full surrender, and his heartbeat increased instantly, as his heart began to throb frantically against his chest.“Turn around! Do it slowly!” The voice commanded, and Riley obeyed at once, turning around slowly to face the bodyguard whom he thought he had escaped from.He gasped slightly seeing that the bodyguard held up a gun toward him which pointed directly at his forehead.“Oh, Sir. I am sorry, Sir. I didn’t realize who it was.” The bodyguard apologized instantly, looking at Riley’s uniform. For a second, Riley was confused as he watched the bodyguard apologize, taking down the gun instantly, with a little fright in his eyes. Riley was so carried away by the tension in his body that he forgot he was an S rank Arcade. As soon as he realized the reason behind the bodyguard’s sudden reaction, he instantly aligned with the actual situation and brought down his hands immediately.“

CHAPTER FIFTY-FIVE“Okay, Mum. Just relax, okay?”“Start talking. Now!” Mrs. Ederson ordered, with her eyes filled with so much impatience.Riley sighed heavily, and then he adjusted himself on the bed as well, getting ready to tell his mother what she needed to hear.“So, after I had returned from my mission at the dimension...” He began his narrative, skipping the entire encounter at the C-dimension, not ready to give his mother more pressure with the things he faced at the dimension. He was hopeful that she was never going to find out someday. He cleared his throat twice as though it was clogged, and sighed heavily, while his mother looked at him with keen attention.“I reported to the Head of the Arcades Committee, and then I moved to return home. I met Mira on my way, and she offered to take me home, she said she wanted to meet you, Mum.”Mrs. Ederson scoffed at once, folding her arms with a look of disapproval in her eyes.“That your silly girlfriend, I don’t think I like her, s

CHAPTER FIFTY-SIXSeeing that as an opportunity to get away from saying the truth, Riley took leverage on it at once.“I have to go, Mum. That’s the alarm for work,”“Wait, what? We are at your work place? Won’t you get into any trouble? What if someone finds us here?”“Calm down, Mum. This is the only safe place I could think of. I need you to remain calm, I will get you something to eat, I know you must be hungry.”“What about Sammy? He needs his meds as well.”Riley scratched the back of his head with his left hand, unable to find a possible solution to the situation at hand. His mother fixed her eyes on him, waiting to hear what he was going to say.“Alright, Mum. I think I have the perfect solution to this.”“Okay?” Mrs. Ederson said softly, leaning toward her son, and hoping that his words were going to be enough to soothe the anxiety in her body.“Okay. I am going to get his meds and bring them to you along with what you will eat.@“How? Are you going to go to the apartment? Pl

CHAPTER FIFTY-SEVEN“S-ranker!” He teased himself with his smile intact, and when he realized that he had stood at the spot for w long time, he continued his walk toward the main building, where the S-rankers worked. The S-rankers had always enjoyed special privileges in the committee, and those who were not going on missions with guilds that had come to offer them opportunities were seen as demigods by lower rankers. No one knew why exactly they were called S-rankers, as the rest of the ranks were named according to the hierarchy of the letters of the Alphabet. Some had concluded that it meant Supreme rank, and Riley had been inclined to believe they could be right.S-rankers were hardly seen, except when there was a parade or an emergency that needed their attention, and that was really rare.As Riley sauntered toward the talk building, he realized that his steps became very magnificent, even though he tried not to walk the way he did. He tried to bring down his shoulders, but they

CHAPTER FIFTY-EIGHTHe moved closer to the first door in front from his left, and he could see that the room was filled with a lot of outfits of different colors, belonging to S-rankers.“Nice!” He exclaimed with two nods, also smiling as he admired the outfits that made him long to wear any of them.Next, moved to the next room, and he could see that there were a lot of weapons hanging on the four boards on the wall, beginning from guns of different sizes, shapes, and colors, to crossbows, bows, and arrows, and some other strange looking weapons he had never seen before. He looked into the room for a few more seconds, until he was satisfied, and decided to move to the third room.Slowly he walked, until he got to the room and looked through the casement door, but the room was almost empty, as it had just a strange black device in the middle of the floor, shaped like a cone.Safe stayed at the device for a while, unable to comprehend what it really was, as it had strange carvings all

CHAPTER FIFTY-NINE“When we got to the dimension, we realized that we had gone to. C-dimension, instead of a D-dimension as we had been made to believe. We were attacked by monsters who killed some of us, while the rest of us escaped to safety.”“Oh boy! That must have been scary.” Jeff said with his eyes widened, and his hands placed on his lap, while he stared at Riley with so much attention.“I was the only F-ranker in their midst, and so I was made to carry their bags while we ran for safety, still struggling with the right solution to our situation. We were attacked later by a huge monster and my group members who were still alive sacrificed me in order to escape from the monster. They pushed me into its mouth.”“What? That’s evil. They should be punished for that!” Jeff said at once, and with a livid tone, a frown appeared on his face, but Riley could only imagine the rest of the story, as it was too late to punish anyone. He waited till Jeff was calm before he continued the res

CHAPTER SIXTY“If you need anything, anything at all, please, do not hesitate to come to me, I will be glad to help,” Jeff said with a smile, extending his right hand toward Riley for a handshake.“Thank you so much, Jeff. I won’t forget that.”“You better not, don’t be a stranger,” Jeff said with his smile unpaired, as he shook Riley’s hand gently, before letting it go after a few seconds. He walked toward the door leading to his office, and as soon as he held onto the handle, he pulled it and pushed the door open. He took a step forward into the room but stopped suddenly.“Before I forget…” He said calmly, turning to face Riley who was still standing at the exact position he left him, and taking a glance at the décor of the room. As soon as he heard the words from Jeff, he lifted his head toward him and waited to hear what he had to say.“How have you been settling in? How is your first day as an S-ranker? Any special activities?” Jeff continued, smiling at Riley who started to thin

CHAPTER SIXTY-ONEMiles didn’t wait for even a second before he extended his right hand toward Riley for a handshake, maintaining the smile on his face.“Hi, I am Miles. Miles Gilbert.”Riley turned toward Miles slowly and lifted his hand to shake him, but he was forced to hang his hand in the air when he noticed his dirty red gloves.“Oh, I am sorry about that. I will just take these off.” Miles said as soon as he noticed the reason behind Riley’s sudden suspense of his hand, and then he pulled out the gloves in his hands one after the other and held onto them with his right hand.“I am Miles Gilbert, but you can call me Miles,” Miles said swiftly, repeating his name with his smile appearing once more.“Riley Ederson,” Riley responded as their hands met, and he smiled at him as well.“Nice to meet you, Riley. It feels good to have someone come after me, I almost thought that there was never going to be another S-ranker after me. I have been waiting for over a year for this special mo
