CHAPTER SIXTY-TWO“That should be really dangerous. Why not destroy it?” Riley asked, but Miles chuckled before he gave a response to his question.“I don’t think anyone can. It’s so sensitive that even a touch can trigger its force.” Miles explained emphatically.“Oh, is it safe to keep it here? Won’t it explode or something?”“Relax, Riley. The room is tightly shielded with a unique temperature that covers the Beamer with enough force that prevent it from going off. Nothing can go close to it, besides, the Committee is safely guarded.”“You never can be so sure, Miles. If anyone lays his hands on that thing, he could destroy the entire city with it.” Riley argued, but his words only made Miles get into a short period of thinking, while he stared at him.“Ok, calm down Soldier. I don’t know where you are getting all of that thought from, but I need you to calm down, okay? Nothing is going to go wrong. I assure you of that.” Miles said with a firm voice and continued to look at Riley,

CHAPTER SIXTY-THREE“Yes, you,” Miles responded, while his hands remained on the steering wheel, but Riley turned to look at him, waiting for him to say another word, even though he wasn’t sure what he wanted to hear.“Yeah. When you guys left, and didn’t return when you were supposed to, everyone started to think that you all were dead, they were right though, not entirely.” Miles continued, and then he paused for a while, steering the wheel to the right, through a path surrounded by one of the numerous gardens in the headquarters.“When we got the rumors that someone had survived, we could only imagine what happened down there. But everyone was shocked when they realized that it was an F-ranker who survived. Can you imagine that?”“Yeah, I guess I am some lucky man,” Riley responded with a smile on his face.Miles turned to look at him almost immediately, while he drove with a slow pace through the long path. When he noticed that he had been staring at him, Riley was forced to look

CHAPTER SIXTY-FOURRiley was never expecting the question he got from Miles, but he managed to think of something to respond as soon as he could.“The man who was with Mr. Michel thinks it was caused by the radiation in the dimension, they think it messed with my genes or something,” Riley explained and looked at Miles, hoping he was going to believe him.“Oh, really?”“Yeah,” Riley said at once in response to Miles who sighed heavily and nodded his head twice, without taking his eyes off the road.“He could be right, I mean, one of the S-rankers who went on a mission to an abandoned lab came back to discover that she had strange abilities after she was struck by a strange lightning inside the lab,” Miles explained, turning to look at Riley who remained silent, even though he was glad that he didn’t have to go further with his explanations.“Crazy right?” Miles said, realizing that Riley had a particular look on his face, which wasn’t the normal countenance he was used to.“Yeah, she

CHAPTER SIXTY-FIVE“Not really. You are yet to say the passcode.” Miles responded without getting rid of his smile, but his words were enough to make Riley more confused than he was already.“Passcode? What passcode are you talking about?”Again, Miles smiled at Riley, but he got a little pissed off that he was trying to make fun of his ignorance.“What's wrong with this dude?” Riley thought to himself, as several thoughts continued to run through his mind.“I really have to get back to the D-rankers’ quarters.” Riley thought impatiently, realizing that he had spent a lot of time without returning on time just like he promised his mother.“The door will only unlock with your name just like the door at the headquarters,” Miles explained when he was done with his amusement, and then he moved closer to the door, while Riley stepped aside gradually.“Door unlock,” Miles said, looking at the door, and he got a response from a male automated voice that was similar to the one Riley heard at

CHAPTER SIXTY-SIXRiley stared at the blue truck right in front of him for a while, not able to say a word as his mouth was wide open, yet he remained speechless.“Is this…Is this my car? Am I really going to be driving this?”“What do you think?” Miles responded calmly with a smile on his face, and then he took his eyes off the car for a few seconds and turned to look at Riley who was still standing in utter bewilderment.“Go on, you can try it. The key is inside.” Miles stepped forward to the car and motioned to Riley to move toward the truck as well.“I can’t believe this,” Riley said calmly, as he walked slowly to the car, unable to express the way he felt exactly. He pulled the handle of the driver’s door, and the door went back with his hands as soon as he pulled it to himself. He got in slowly, and just like Miles said, the key to the truck was inside the vehicle, waiting for him to turn on the engine.“You wanna take a spin? I think we have about an hour before the convergence

CHAPTER SIXTY-SEVEN“Right,” Riley said with a slight nod, wondering when he became friends with Miles.“Anyways, so which one are we going for first? Are we changing your outfit, getting you fed, or getting your supplements? What are we doing first, and which one follows next?”After he had thought about Miles's question for a few seconds, Riley made up his mind about the first thing he wanted to do, and he exhaled sharply, before telling Miles who seemed to be so interested in knowing what he was going to do first.“Can we get the drugs first? I want us to get the drugs first, I really need them.”“Really?” Miles asked with his s smile slowly disappearing, and a curious face laced with a little disappointment took over at once.“Yeah, I want to get the drugs first.”“Are you sure? I think you should change your outfit, or probably get something to eat, the drugs can wait till later.”“No, please. I need them right now, I really do. Do you know any place I can get good medication? A

CHAPTER SIXTY-EIGHT“Do you know where the Cafeteria is located?” Miles asked from behind Riley, causing him to stop instantly. He turned around slowly and looked at him, realizing that there were several things he really didn’t know anything about, especially regarding the Arcades Committee.“Come on, this way,” Miles said calmly, taking a right turn. It was obvious that Riley didn’t know where the cafeteria was located through his countenance, and he didn’t see the need to wait for a response from him.“Right, I went the wrong way.” Realizing that he had wasted his energy walking in the wrong direction, Riley turned slowly and followed Miles who walked slowly, expecting him to join him sooner. In less than a minute, Riley was right beside Miles, holding the drugs in both hands and making sure he walked side by side with him.“How come you don’t know anywhere around here, yet you were an F-ranker?” Miles broke the silence between them while they sauntered through the hallway. He turn

CHAPTER SIXTY-NINERiley thought about the words Miles said for a few seconds, and when he was unable to comprehend them, he was forced to ask the question that was beginning to linger in his mind.“What incident are you talking about?”“The incident that happened eight years ago, when the great scientist created the portal that led to the dimension where the powerful orb was located.”“Oh, that. You mean the orb that gave all of us talents that we awakened?”“Yes, that. My father used to work with the scientist just before he retired, and he told me about most of his experiments, and how people called him crazy for being very ambitious. Today, the discovery of Professor Milestone has changed the story of the universe.” Miles said with a smile, and then he increased the speed of his steps, forcing Riley to walk faster.“His story was always my source of motivation, and when it was time for me to touch the Arcade device, I was really hopeful that I was going to awaken a good talent. CHAPTER SEVENTYMiles sighed heavily, and it became really obvious to Riley that he was trying to let out a heavy burden inside him, which was obviously from a past experience of pain.“You know… I used to believe that love existed until a year ago, now that sounds like a fantasy to me, pure fantasy.” Miles adjusted himself on his seat, and even though he was silent for a few seconds, Riley knew he wasn’t done talking, and he just kept quiet and looked at him.“I adored her, I treated her like she was everything I had, but when I thought I finally had the chance to give her the life she deserved, I found out she had been cheating on me, with a security guard, what do women really want?”“Okay, calm down, Miles. It’s not that bad.”Oh, you think? It’s really terrible! It’s the worst thing that could have happened to anyone. Do you know what it means to be with someone for over two years, and when you think you finally had the chance to take care of her, some guy shows up and proposes t

CHAPTER SEVENTY-ONE“Nah, I think I will pass.”“Here you go! Ready and steaming.” Fiona appeared unnoticed from their back and placed the two plates she was carrying on a tray in front of them, one after the other. The aroma of the mashed potatoes and the grilled fish went straight into their noses, and they took it all in.“This already smells nice, Miss Fiona. I can’t wait to dig in.”“Well, I hope you like it, Miles. I will go get your sausages now.” Fiona said with a cheerful smile, and then she turned to look at Riley who was almost on the verge of eating his food.“Riley? I will get your takeaway soon.” She said and then left without waiting to hear if Riley had anything to say, but he was only focused on the food.“I see that you are really hungry, Riley. Go on, have a taste, and I am sure you will love it.” Miles urged with a smile on his face.Without waiting for even another second, Riley picked up the spoon beside him and then scooped some potatoes from the plate in front
