CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-ONE “No…” The lady gasped, taking two steps backward. She tried to struggle with the reality staring her in the face, but the more she tried, the more difficult it was for her. At that moment, it seemed as though she had lost her voice, and Desmond was forced to break the silence. “Is the old man still alive?” He asked, and the lady nodded. She cleared her throat, and nervously, she pointed to the door behind her. “He said you were going to come.” She whispered, her voice cracked and very low. Desmond nodded, and then he gestured to her to lead the way.Slowly, she obeyed, but was forced to always look back at each moment she felt like doing so. Several thoughts were roaming inside her mind, but it was hard for her to decide which one of them she was going to focus on.The door they walked through led into a large room, almost empty if not for the long and thick curtains that were placed over the windows, preventing the sunlight from getting into the

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-TWO Desmond stared at the young lady as she sauntered toward him, grunting at the weight of the chair she was carrying. When she drew closer to Desmond, she dropped the chair, placing it in a very good position for him. Desmond chuckled softly, and then he nodded. “Thank you, Aria.” He turned to the old man, staring him in the face.“Now I see the resemblance. She took after you, old man.” Gerald chuckled softly, and then he turned to Aria. “Get us something to drink, Aria.” “Yes, Master Gerald.” Aria bowed, and after a quick glance at Desmond, she left in a hurry. Desmond turned to Gerald, his eyes wide with curiosity. “Master Gerald? Is that what she calls you?”“That’s what everyone calls me, Desmond. That’s what you called me when you were here.”“But I was not your grandson.” Desmond made himself very comfortable on the chair, resting his back on it. “You were more than a grandson to me, Desmond. You were like a son to me.” The old man grunted,

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-THREE “That was fifteen years ago, old man.” Desmond finally found his words, taking a deep breath. He felt the cringe that gripped him, attached to his nerves. “I didn’t know, old man.” He said calmly, and then he cleared his throat. “You told me that he was a murderer, Master. You told me that he killed his wife and daughter.” “That’s because I was deceived, Desmond.” The old man sighed heavily, and then he leaned backward. “I have regretted sending you on that mission since I discovered that he was innocent. I am convinced that you left because of that mission.” Desmond shook his head, looking the old man in the eyes. “I left because I was tired of the lifestyle. I was tired of the killing and staying indoors until there was someone who needed to pay for his crimes.” He paused for a while, but emotions were still sparking in his eyes. “I wanted more, old man. You told us that our lives didn’t depend on the killing and hiding. Besides, I knew that

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-FOUR “Why are you doing this?” Aria asked, staring Desmond in the face. She could see the strong determination that was plastered all over his face, but it was hard for her to fathom the reason why Desmond was about to do what he had made up his mind for. Desmond took a deep breath, and then he inched closer to the young lady, holding onto his deadpan expression that almost seemed like it was cold. “Master Gerald taught me everything that I know, Aria. I owe him my loyalty and respect.” Aria nodded, and a smile appeared slowly on her face. “So you are willing to risk your life because of that?” She stared with disbelief etched on her face, and finally, she sighed heavily.“I don’t think I have seen so many noble men like yourself, Seven. The stories about you were never wrong.” Desmond scoffed. “I never think of myself as noble. I just believe that I am willing to do everything it takes to get justice. Besides, I have a personal vendetta that I wish to

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-FIVE For the umpteenth time, Desmond had turned to look at Aria, still battling the intense feeling that gripped him. He leaned backward, resting his head on the seat of his car. “I don’t think this is right, Aria. It’s going to be very dangerous out there.” He thought that he was going to be able to convince the lady, but her mind was already made up.“There is nothing you can say to make me change my mind, Seven.” Aria said with a wry smile, and then she looked through the windshield, staring at the old mansion.“We should be on our way before the old man comes out. Now that you have revived him, I am certain that he would definitely want to see the sunlight.” Desmond grunted, but knowing that the lady was definitely making sense, he was forced to turn on the ignition of the car, and in a matter of seconds, he was already driving out of the premises, heading toward the main road through the narrow path that almost indicated that they were in a dead zon

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SIX Aria was the first to alight from the car, and she walked to the wooden bridge before Desmond could join her.She waited until he was close enough, and then she turned to him with a look of bemusement etched on her face. “I didn’t think of this, Desmond.” “Think of what?” Desmond asked, and Aria pointed.“That…” She turned to the drones that were flying high above them, staring with nervousness etched on her face.“I forgot that the Plit Clan head family take their security very serious.” She muttered, sighing in frustration. When she turned to Desmond and saw that he didn’t seem bothered, she was curious, staring at him with arched brows. “Do you realize that we are in big trouble?” She inquired, staring at Desmond with wide eyes. Desmond scoffed, looking up at drones that were hovering in the air, their cameras moving from one corner to the other, zooming in to pick even the smallest objects that could seem suspicious. Luckily, Desmond and Aria

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SEVEN He stared at it for a while, and then he took a deep breath, moving his hands forward slowly while he took a deep breath. “What are you doing?” Aria stopped humming before he could get close to the electric fence, her eyes wide with concern.“Do you realize that you could get roasted to ashes if you touch this, right?” “I know,” Desmond said casually, giving Aria another reason to be deeply concerned about him.“So what are you trying to do?” She asked, holding onto his hands. “Are you trying to get yourself killed, Desmond? Is that your plan?” Desmond scoffed, shaking his head without getting rid of the smirk that was etched all over his face.“Who said anything about dying?” He paused for a few seconds, staring into Aria’s eyes. “Just relax and watch, Aria.” He said calmly, and then he moved his hands out of her grip before he continued moving them toward the electric fence. Aria was worried, but she couldn’t continue looking at him, her atten

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-EIGHT Desmond, on the other hand, remained calm, his eyes on the feet of the huge man who had been standing at the doorstep with his head bent because of his height. It seemed as though he had sensed the presence of intruders, and this made Aria panic as she remained where she was, struggling for breath. “What is it, Hill?” The pleasant voice from earlier asked, and then a silent footstep followed. “I think someone is in here. Or someone just left not so long ago.” Hill said with a very deep voice, and then he grunted, moving his nose from one corner to the other. “That’s not possible, Hill,” Milo said confidently, taking a deep breath.“No one would be foolish enough to come into this place. Not after the last thing that happened.” Milo argued, and then he peeped into the passage through the little space that Hill’s huge body permitted. “I can smell them, Milo. There is a strong scent in here.” Hill said with a scowl, and then he sniffed thrice, movin

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-NINE Aria watched as Desmond made sure that everything was in order, and when he finally returned to her, he forced a smile, looking her in the eyes. “Do you know if there will be any more surprises waiting for us?” He asked, but Aria could not provide any answer. She just looked toward the direction that Desmond kept the men he knocked out, seeing parts of their bodies with the aid of the torchlight from the phone on the floor. Slowly, she returned her gaze to Desmond, her breath quivering as she prepared the question that lingered inside her mind.“Are they dead?” She asked with a shaky voice, not certain that she was ready for the answer to her question. Desmond took a deep breath, and then he responded with a wry smile, “Not yet…”“Not yet?!” Aria snapped, but when she remembered that they were in a place they didn’t need to be in, she took a deep breath, and then she continued with a lower tone. “I didn’t think that we were here to kill anyone, Des

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND FORTY Ten seconds were passed, yet it was still obvious that whoever was in front of the door had refused to leave, standing still as if his life depended on it. After a few seconds, he grabbed the doorknob again and twisted, yet nothing had changed. “I have to get wine, or I will be in trouble!” The voice whispered nervously, and then the stranger took a deep breath. “Maybe Mr. Roy locked it. I should get him at once.” The man said with just a little ounce of hope left in his tone, and then he walked away.Everyone inside the wine store remained silent until they could no longer hear the sound of the receding footsteps.Vin and Davina were the first to sigh in relief, and then Aria followed suit, turning to Desmond, who calmly moved away from the door, turning his eyes to Davina, who in turn looked away, focused on Aria. “That must be one of the guys helping with the party. We have to leave before he gets Mr. Roy!” Her voice was slippery, laced with so much a
