Chapter 1 The Damn Wardrobe and a Bloody Welcome
The smell of dust and rotting plywood stung the nose. Arthur kicked the door of the old library open and pulled Lyra inside by force. He shut the door as fast as he could, leaning against it with heavy, ragged breaths. His St. Oakhaven boarding school uniform was drenched in sweat and the heavy rain from outside the building.Out in the hallway, the sound of Higgins's footsteps echoed. The discipline teacher was definitely carrying his signature thick wooden cane, searching for the two delinquent students who dared to set off fireworks in the teachers' lounge."You are out of your mind, Arthur," Lyra said, leaning against a bookshelf and trying to catch her breath. Her black hair was a messy, wet mop covering half her face. "If Higgins catches us tonight, we are dead meat. I am not scrubbing the dorm toilets for a month just because of your stupid idea."Arthur scoffed quietly, peeking through a crack in the wooden door. "Just chill for a second. Besides, the fireworks idea was to cov
Chapter 2 The Drunk Weasel and the Blue Screen
One second.Arthur squeezed his eyes shut. He surrendered to his death in the middle of this expanse of snow. The wild, freezing wind was suddenly split by the piercing whistle of metal.Clang.A loud clash echoed, shattering the silence of the storm. A splatter of thick, hot black liquid sprayed right onto Arthur's face. The heat of the liquid made him snap his eyes open in shock. The head of the Wraith that was just about todecapitate him was now rolling away into the snow. The shadow monster's neck had been sliced completely clean by a single swing. Its headless body collapsed forward, then slowly disintegrated into black dust that was instantly swept away by the storm.Arthur gasped for air. He stared blankly at the spot where the monster had died. Standing right there, piercing through the thick fog of snow, was a savior figure that made the remaining sanity in Arthur's brain almost snap completely.A weasel. Not an ordinary pet weasel, but a giant weasel the height of an adult'
Chapter 3 Ignis Academy and High Class Racism
Arthur slowly opened his eyes. The metallic stench of blood and the putrid smell of rotting flesh were completely gone now. An incredibly strong herbal scent instantly filled his lungs as he took a breath. He was lying on an iron bed with a fairly hard, thin mattress.Arthur reflexively felt his stomach. His school shirt, once soaked in blood, was gone. His clothes had been changed into a set of coarse, dull gray linen shirt and pants. The fatal tear from the shadow monster's claws had closed up tightly. The only thing left was a long pink scar that felt incredibly itchy and throbbed softly under his skin. That damn neon blue screen popped up again, floating right above his face.[HP Status 85 out of 100.][Low Tier Healing Magic Effect Received. Chapter 4 First Blood in the Execution Class
The heavy footsteps made the reddish sand beneath Arthur's shoes shake violently. From the dark tunnel behind the open bars, a monster crawled out into the brightly lit arena.Arthur widened his eyes. The creature was not an ordinary wild beast at all. It was a living Gargoyle. The monster's height almost matched the main gate. Its skin was a mix of pale gray flesh and hard granite slabs. A pair of torn bat wings folded on its back. The monster's mouth was filled with dagger like fangs dripping with sulfur scented saliva. Its yellow reptilian eyes stared at Arthur with wild hunger. From the upper stands surrounding the arena, the sound of slow clapping was heard through a magical speaker. A tall bald man with a scar slashing across half his face stood at the edge of the railing. The man wore light leather armor and held a spiked whip in his hand.It was Instructor Vane. The most sadistic combat class teacher at Ignis Academy."Attention everyone," Vane's voice echoed to every corner o
Chapter 5 Detention and Dirty Secrets
Two Orc Gladiators stepped out from the darkness of the tunnel. Their bodies were covered in thick green muscles that bulged disgustingly. Each of them carried a giant steel axe. Their heavy breaths puffed out like starving wild bulls.Arthur gripped his broken sword tightly. His hands were shaking violently. His torn arm muscles throbbed painfully. The blue screen in front of his eyes blinked bright red, counting down the rest of his life. Ten seconds until absolute death."Wait," a cold and sharp voice cut through the tension in the arena.Prince Kaelen jumped down from the upper railing of the stands and landed perfectly on the red sand. His silk robe rustled softly. Kaelen glared straight at Instructor Vane, who was standing up there with a face full of rage."What are you doing, Prince Kaelen," Vane snapped. The bald instructor's neck veins popped out. "Get out of the arena. This human must be executed for destroying academy property.""You are the one who should use your brain,
Chapter 6 Malakor's Whispers and Insane Truths
An incredibly thick, metallic stench of blood woke Arthur up by force. He opened his eyes, gasping for air. Cold sweat drenched his entire face and shirt. His last memory was the excruciating pain in the underground armory that afternoonbefore everything faded into total darkness. Now he was lying on a narrow dorm bed. The room was pitch black. There was only a dim moonlight piercing through the crack of the stone window in the corner of the room.Arthur tried to sit upright, but his head felt like it had been smashed with an iron beam. His right palm throbbed with intense heat. The crystal shard shaped scar on his skin glowed brightly, emitting an unnatural blood red light.A blue screen exploded in front of his eyes. But its shape was completely distorted. The text vibrated violently, with black and red colors overlapping each other.[Fatal Error. Soul Security System Breached.][Mission Canceled. Kill. Blood. Chapter 7 The Iron Army in the Dead of Night
The sound of the war horn was still echoing, tearing through his eardrums. Arthur did not waste a single second thinking about Headmaster Alaric's threat. He turned around and ran as fast as he could down the main tower's spiral staircase. His bare feet pounded against the cold stone steps.Through the cracks of the tower windows, he could see the lower floor dorms where the human students lived were already burning fiercely. Flames roared, licking the wooden roofs. Thick black smoke billowed high, blocking out themoonlight. The blue system screen exploded in front of his eyes. Its color had returned to normal, but it was blinking with a bright red warning.[Emergency Warning. Chapter 8 The Siege of Ignis Part One Betrayal
Head Instructor Vane's head rolled slowly across the cobblestones of the main courtyard. Fresh blood dripped from the severed neck, staining General Valerius's pristine white boots. From the ruined hole in the dorm wall above, Arthur stared at the scene with bated breath. The night wind blew hard, carrying the thick metallic scent of blood from the hundreds of corpses scattered below. The Iron Assassin army stoodtightly in neat formations. They did not move at all, waiting for orders from the Elf General who smiled calmly in the midst of the massacre.Valerius looked up, locking eyes right with Arthur. The Elf man raised his bloodstained hand, pointing straight at Arthur."Capture that human alive," Valerius's voice echoed to every corner of the academy through a magical loudspeaker. "Bring that vessel of the Dawn Shard to me. Burn the rest to the ground."Hundreds of Iron Assassins simultaneously pounded their iron chest plates. The booming sound of metal sounded like the thunder of
Chapter 9 The Siege of Ignis Part Two Bloody Combat
The ground of the academy's main courtyard shook violently. Hundreds of Iron Assassins charged forward all at once. The sound of their iron boots stomping sounded like an earthquake ready to swallow everything in its path. The coldnight air instantly felt like it was boiling from the steam of their breaths and the bloodlust of the mercenaries.Arthur gripped his short sword with both hands. His torn shoulder muscles screamed in pain, but the adrenaline killed the ache for the time being. But before a single enemy could reach their defense line, Bramble stepped forward. The giant weasel pulled a glass bottle from under his leather armor, chugged the rest of the liquor in one long gulp, and smashed the bottle onto theground until it shattered to pieces.Bramble let out a low growl. His growl did not sound like a normal animal. It echoed like an ancient monster that had just been woken from a long slumber. The muscles beneath his brown fur swelled wildly, tearing several parts of hisl
Chapter 10 The Price of a Choice
The giant serrated spear zipped through, slicing the night air. Its whistling sound was deafening. Time seemed to stop ticking in Arthur's eyes. His brain processed every millisecond happening in front of him with crystal clarity, but his body could not be moved at all. Zero percent stamina. The system locked all of his muscles like a stone statue. At the end of the spear's path, Lyra could only sit frozen. The girl was too exhausted to even lift her hand. Lyra's eyes widened, staring at the black iron tip ready to tear her heart out.Arthur opened his mouth wide to scream, but no sound came out of his dry throat.Right when the spearhead was just a hand's span away from Lyra's chest, a shadow jumped from the side.It was Finn. The cowardly chubby kid who had just been cowering and trembling while crying the whole time. Finn did not hold any weapon other than a broken piece of wood. His face was wet with tears and snot. Fear was painted clearly on every inch of his face. But with the
