Chapter thirty one
Ethan didn’t move at first. He only stared at the rising dust, watching it coil around Miles like something alive. Then he smiled.“You think that little trick scares me?” Ethan tilted his head. “Eric is weak. That’s why you took his power so easily.”Miles didn’t answer. His eyes stayed fixed, calm, unreadable. The wind around him thickened, circling faster now, tugging at loose papers, shaking the broken edge of the storage roof. The girl on the ground crawled backward, dragging herself behind a rusted metal bin.“P-please…” she whispered. “Stop…”Ethan didn’t even glance at her. “I don’t care about her anymore,” he said. “You just made this personal.”Miles exhaled slowly. “That’s where you’re wrong,” he said. “It stopped being personal when you put your foot on her bag.”A sharp silence followed. Then—WHOOSH!Ethan moved. Not forward. Not backward.Up.The ground under his feet cracked as he launched himself into the air with brutal force, twisting mid-flight.“Let’s see how you

The rubble shifted. Not from impact but from movement. Ethan pushed himself up slowly, one arm trembling as it dragged across broken wood and concrete fragments. His breathing was uneven now—ragged, forced—like his body had forgotten how to cooperate with him. Blood dripped from his chin onto the dust. Yet he was smiling again. Not confidently this time. But stubbornly. “You… really think… you’ve won?” he coughed out. Miles stood a few meters away, expression unreadable. The wind around him had settled into a quiet, tense spiral, like it was waiting for permission. “I don’t think,” Miles said calmly. “I observe.” Ethan let out a broken laugh. “Observe this then.” He lifted his hand again. Nothing happened. His fingers trembled slightly then he frowned. Then tried again—harder this time. The air… refused him. For the first time, panic flickered across his face. “What did you do?” Miles tilted his head slightly, “I didn’t do anything yet.” That silence hit harder than a

The news of Miles fighting Eric and Ethan spread like wildfire around the school. "Did you see it happen?" A student asked "Do we need to see it? Miles collected their powers!" "Wait? How is he doing that shit? No one can actually get power without having to buy it." "You tell me. Is he some kind of magician?" As Jack and Maya walked hand in hand through the student dormitory, they couldn't help but listen to what they were talking about. "Do you think I can also get my powers back?" Maya asked Jack's eyebrows furrowed slightly. He stopped walking and stared into her eyes. "Kyle got his power back. I don't know how he did it but I think whatever Miles did to you guys is not permanent. You should...." He paused and his gaze met with Eric and Ethan who were isolated from the rest of the students. They both were known throughout the school premises but ever since they fought with Miles they were no longer feared. Most students walked past them without giving them a second look.

Miles didn’t respond immediately. The wind between them grew heavier, almost as if the air itself had started reacting to the tension.Jack’s laughter still echoed faintly in the open field. Then Miles finally spoke, voice low. “So that’s it,” he said. “You’re not even pretending anymore.”Jack turned slightly, hands slipping into his pockets, calm like he had already won something unseen.“Pretending?” Jack chuckled. “Miles, I’ve been honest with you from the beginning. You just chose not to listen. I don't see any reason why we need to fight when we can be best friends." Best of friends?A playful smile appeared on Miles face. Here was his enemy asking to be his friend. Miles couldn't help but wonder if Jack was going to ask him to be his friend if he knew who he really was. Miles took a slow step forward. “You murdered Dennis Lawson,” he said plainly. No anger now. Just certainty.Jack’s smile thinned. “And I told you already—he was irrelevant. Your father needed results. I deli

Miles' fingers slowly loosened from the broom. Then, unexpectedly he smiled. Not a mocking smile. Not an angry one. A smile that made Jack's confidence falter. "Why are you smiling?" Jack asked. Miles looked at him with tired eyes. "You've been talking about my father this whole time." Jack frowned. "So?" "You've praised him. Defended him. Blamed him. Admired him." Miles took another slow step closer. "But not once...not once have you talked about your own father." The field slowly went silent. It felt almost as if it was only Jack and Miles left alone. The smile disappeared from Jack's face. For the first time since they met, something flashed across his eyes. Pain. Only for a second. Then it vanished. "My father has nothing to do with this." he said quickly. "No?" Miles asked quietly. "Then why do you keep pretending Alexander Robertson is the only man whose approval matters?" Jack's jaw tightened. "I said leave him out of this." Miles nodded slow

Dennis. The name struck Miles like a hammer. Miles knew what he was. He was Dennis Lawson in the body of Mike's Robertson but having to share a single body with someone he didn't know much about was quite scary for him. For a heartbeat, the courtyard disappeared. Miles wanted to walk forward again but he felt like an electric current struck his heart. "Ah! Miles grabbed his chest as he fell to the ground again. Before he could move, darkness swallowed everything. Then, he stood inside a burning bunker. Smoke choked the air. A young man staggered through the flames, his skin burned beyond recognition. Dennis. He could barely breathe. "Get me out of here. Please..." Dennis whispered, his hands thrusted forwards. Miles froze for a moment. He was lost. He looked around and his gaze landed on a younger Jack standing before him, surrounded by his friends. They were all laughing and watching as the fire engulfed Dennis. His cries of pain, the way the fire caught every s

Miles stood frozen. He could see the bruise on his face and his body. "What have you done to me, Dennis?" he saidMiles accessed his wounds again. The glowing blue interface hovered inches from his face while the students around him continued whispering among themselves. He wasn't looking at them anymore. He was staring at the endless list floating before him.[Predator System Online][Host One: Miles Robertson][Host Two: Dennis Lawson][Compatibility: 12%][Shared Body Status: Stable][Below it was another list of collected Abilities][ Water ability (Unlocked)][Air ability (Unlocked)][Earth ability (Unlocked)][Predator's Eye (Available)]Miles blinked. "What the hell?"Inside his head, Dennis chuckled. "Surprised?"Miles clenched his jaw. "You collected all of these?""Not all.""Then why are they here?""Because every ability I've earned belongs to both of us now."Miles scoffed. "That's impossible. Every power, every skills need to be bought. You don't have the power nor the

The football field remained silent long after Dennis walked away. Not a single student dared to laugh. Not after the look in his eyes. Jack Voss watched his retreating back until it disappeared beyond the athletics building. Ethan was the first to break the silence. "What the hell was that?" Cole scratched the back of his neck. "I've never seen him talk like that." Jack didn't answer. His fists slowly tightened inside his pockets. Something was wrong. And he didn't know what was happening. The Miles he fought with had a vicious look before he passed out. The look on his face was.... Jack ran his hand over his hair. He looked at Kyle, "Do you notice anything different about him?" Kyle frowned. "Diffent? How?" "Shut the fuck up! I just asked you a question. Do you notice anything different about him?" "No. He...he..." Kyle stuttered. Everyone stared at Kyle like he was going to say something reasonable. "He is not scared I think." he finally said. "Fuck you, Kyle." J

The moment Jane pulled away from Miles, she studied the look on his face. "Did I do something wrong?" she asked."Yes." Miles said sharply. "Why would you kiss me in front of the whole student body?" Jane looks around, "We had a deal. Didn't we?" "Deal?" Miles said again. But then, he knew this was all Dennis plan. He needs to get along with every single bit of it. "My birthday is coming up this Saturday. Also, my parents are going to be in town. I think it would be nice if you met them." Miles frowned just a bit. He had always had eyes for one of the female students in the combat department. An earth bender named Gray Veronica. Now he was sure she was never going to give him a chance. Not after this. "Why are you going after Jack like this?" Mile asked The air suddenly stiffened around Jane. She looked at Miles and it felt like she was staring at a completely different person. "We had this talk, Miles. This is supposed to be a trade by bater. I join hands in helping you ta

Miles was not himself. Knowing that his father had a hand in the death of Dennis Lawson changed his mood that day. The moment he got home, he saw his mother preparing the evening meal but he simply walked past her. Lilith was used to his cold behaviour by now but still, she was his mother. "Miles." she called out slowly. But Miles didn't listen. He kept walking the staircase until she called him the second time. "Miles Robertson." Lilith called again This time, she walked out of the kitchen, her back resting on the door frame. "Your father is having friends over Today. You need to be on your best behaviour." she said Miles turned, his gaze hardened. "I don't need to be there if I don't want to." Lilith looked long enough and scoffed. "You do know we are doing this for you, right?" Miles looked at her for a while wondering if she knew her husband killed a young teenager. "Is this still about Dennis Lawson?" Lilth asked. Miles let out a hollow laugh. "St
