Chapter twenty one
The school immediately called Roberson and Voss to the Dean's office to settle the dispute between both children. Alex was the first to get out of bed. He walked straight to Miles' room and opened. "Get up. You have to be early to school today." The early sun flittered through the curtains making Miles' face reflect with anger. "And why do I have to go with you very early? The school wants to see you not me?" Alexander Robertson paused mid-way. He slowly looked back with his hands clenched. "What did you say?" he said with a hardened face. "The school wants to see you and not me. Why should I get dressed so early?" Alexander laughed. "Do you think I am going to praise you for trying to stand up to Jack Voss? He killed some unknown kid for a good reason best known to him. and now you are sulking over it. Get a good grip, boy!" The word made Miles' face changed colour. Alexander Robertson was justifying while he had to die. He was justifying while Dennis Lawson was kil

Alex's jaw tightened. He could not believe what he just heard.Late? He glanced at the expensive watch on his wrist. He was exactly on time. The realization struck him immediately. The Dean was doing it on purpose.A small power play.A reminder that inside these walls, authority belonged to the school. Not to the Robertson family. Not even to the Voss family.Alexander forced a smile. He was not sure if the Dean was picking sides already but then he adjusted his suit and nodded. "My apologies, Dean."The old man gestured toward the empty seats."Please. Sit."The door opened and Lilth walked in with Miles who seems devoid of any emotions. Alex sat beside Lilith while Miles remained standing for a moment. His eyes immediately found Jack. The boy sat across the room with an expressionless face. But Miles could see the confidence in his eyes.Jack wasn't worried. Not in the slightest. As if he already knew how today's meeting would end.Victor Voss leaned back in his chair."Can we ge

Miles stopped walking. For a second, he thought he had heard wrong. Jane had asked before and now she was asking again. Slowly, he turned around. Jane stood a few feet away with her arms crossed beneath her chest. Her silver-blonde hair swayed lightly as students passed through the hallway behind her. The corner of her lips curled upward while Miles stared at her. Then he laughed. A short, humorless laugh. "Have you lost your mind?" he asked with his gaze fixed on her. Jane rolled her eyes. "There it is." "What?" "That attitude." Miles shook his head. "You walk up to me after everything that happened and ask me to be your boyfriend?" Jane shrugged. "I didn't say it had to be real." "That somehow makes it better?" "It does." Miles turned away. "I'm not interested." He started walking again and Jane followed right behind him. "You didn't even hear the benefits." she said with a straight face. "There are benefits?" "Plenty." Miles sighed. "Why are

Miles looked back and saw Jack staring at them from behind. His gaze hardened almost immediately. He looked at Jane, "You need to leave here now. I am going to find you " "No. I am not scared of him, Miles. I have you here with me." Jane replied. Both of them stood their ground while they watched Jack Voss walk through the students. CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! "I see that you have finally decided to move on right?" Jack said the moment he got in their front. Jane looked pissed but then, Miles broke his first rule. He slipped his hand into Jane's. Jack clenched his fist the moment he saw that. "Do you think I care who you are with? FYI, No!" he said laughing. "You can be with anyone you want. But I bet your parents don't know you moved on. I am sure they are going to ask of me the moment they get back." Jane laughed. "You are getting ahead of yourself, Jack. The fact that my father likes you doesn't mean that you are going to get away with every bad thing that you do." Jack

Miles Robertson didn’t move. Not even when Jack Voss’s voice sliced through the hallway like a blade sharpened on rage. The silence that followed was heavier than the noise that came before it. Students who had been whispering seconds ago now held their breath, waiting for something to break.Miles Robertson slowly turned fully this time, his hand still locked with Jane’s. His expression wasn’t loud like Jack’s anger, but it carried something steadier. Something that didn’t flinch.Beside him, Jane Taylor felt the tension in his grip. She didn’t let go either.Jack stepped forward again. One step then another. Each step echoed like a countdown.“You think this is funny?” Jack asked, tilting his head slightly. His smile was gone now. “You think you can take what’s mine… and walk away like nothing happens?”Miles gave a small, almost lazy shrug. “She’s not an object, Jack. So nothing was yours to begin with. Besides, isn't that the same thing you did with Dennis? You took what belonge

Jane couldn't stop looking at Miles as they walked out. A part of her kept wondering if she was right to chose him as her boyfriend but then, she knew Miles was capable of protecting himself and her too. "What was the Dean's verdict?" she asked Miles immediately let go of her hand like it was against the school rules to be seen holding hands with a female student. "Community service. We are to make sure the school is neat on a daily basis." he replied. "And what did your parents have to say about it?" Miles lowered his head, he kicked a stone on the ground. "My father is pissed but my mother seems to be handling this very well." he said absent minded. Jane frowned. "Talking about your mother. If you had two, then don't you think you need to check back at the hospital?" The moment Jane said those words, Miles remembered he left the hospital that day without looking back. "I need to go." Miles ran back to his department and grabbed his backpack. As he raced through the ha

Miles walked back home immediately he left his mother's grave. He was not only angry with himself but a part of him felt his betrayed his mother. He met Lilith in the dinning room the moment he walked in. "Come here. We have got to talk." she said in a feisty tone.Miles paused. His reflection in the full length mirror closer to the door showed Dennis. He was not only wearing an angry look but his face was pretty messed up by the fire. Miles immediately stepped away from the mirror. He was not sure if someone could see what he was seeing. "I don think I want to talk about anything right now." he said back looking at Lilith. "I am just going to go back to my room." Lilith dressed herself on the chair she sat on again. She dropped her cutlery and frowned. "You are going to listen to me when I talk to you. I am your mother!" she barked. Miles frowned and immediately found his legs moving towards the dinning room. Lilith picked up her cutlery and kept eating. She didn't seem both

Still, Miles couldn't connect the dot between Jack Voss and his father. There was no way he knew about the science project Dennis Lawson was working on. Miles' brain had a quick flash back. Just one person had always stayed with him, assisted him and that was Maya. She was the only person who knew about what he was doing. Miles shut the system that was opened right in front of him. "System?" He called out loud but no reply came back. Ever since the system gave it rules and regulations, it seems it had gone quiet. No words, nothing. Miles fell to the bed with a great thud. He shut his eyes again trying to scan through Dennis memories. Maybe there was something he was missing. He kept digging and digging until he felt a liquid trickle down his nose. Miles immediately tilted his head backwards. "What the...." He rushed into the bathroom and tried to stop the blood flowing from his nose. Miles needed the power. He knew that after the fight he had with Jack. The news of Kyle's power returning back to him had spread far and wide around the school ground. "Kyle just used his powers this morning." "Wait. What?" another student said in disbelief. "Someone saw him shooting a fireball in the training field today." "But Miles took his powers? How is that even possible? Does Maya have her piers back?" "It is only a matter of time before she does. Miles is not as scary as we think he is." As Miles walked through the hallway, they all looked at him. Some wondered what was going on with him while some laughed. "Maybe Jack Voss scared the shit out of him." "I bet he is going to return Maya's powers soon enough." Miles clenched his fist so tight he could feel his nails digging into his palms. "Damn you system." he cursed under his breath. The moment he walked into his department, he saw Jack Voss in front of his desk. "What do you want?" Miles s

Miles didn't hesitate. The cry came again, louder this time. "Help! Somebody, please!" His eyes narrowed. The voice was coming from behind the old storage building near the football field. Without a second thought, he sprinted. The students who had been watching him clean the field looked confused. "Where's he going?" "I think someone screamed." "Probably another fight." Miles rounded the corner of the storage building and immediately froze. Three students stood in a circle. Two boys and a girl. The girl was on the ground, clutching her wrist. One of the boys had his foot pressed against her backpack while the other held her phone. Miles recognized them instantly. The twins. They were also bullies and played a part in impacting fears into most of the studies in the school. Eric and Ethan Doyle. Second-year students. Both were notorious for stealing from weaker students. The girl looked terrified. "Please," she begged. "Give it back. That's all I have." Ethan laughed. "
